Great for what we needed
We stayed for one night as we had a wedding nearby. The hotel is geared towards golfing and has a nice view out onto the range at the back, but that wasn't relevant for us. It's quite a large hotel over two floors. The rooms were fine, we had a twin and it was a decent size, was nice and clean and had a decent bathroom. We called early on the Saturday to see if one of the group's rooms was ready and were told they wouldn't be, but when we arrived at midday two were ready which we were grateful for.The hotel isn't near anything else from what I could see and we waited for 40 mins at a nearby station calling all the taxi numbers we could find to come and collect us. The taxis in the area are quite pricey as they have to come out from one of the towns. My advice is book in advance! Especially if you are traveling at the weekend. We had a wedding at the nearby Marks Hall and this was perfect for our stay. There were quite a few of us and we all had a good night's sleep. We all had breakfast included at a very reasonable price and breakfast was excellent. There were spa facilities but we didn't use them on this occasion. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially with sorting out early check in and taxis on the Sunday.Would have no hesitation staying again if I was in the area.

Nice spa break
Had a good three night stay here. Nice room and spa good. Ate in restaurant first night and must say food was plentiful. Only slight drawback was there was no wine menu and when we asked about the red wine we were told we stock three but only have 2 left which is how it remained for the next evening! That aside it was very pleasant.

Dated, but lovely
We stayed in the lodge as part of a wedding party, and had a pleasant stay.On arrival we were greeted by a friendly face at reception who gave us the details we needed, and more when asked. However, upon checkout there was a mishap and we were very nearly charged for two nights rather than one. It was a case of human error, and we were charged the amount for one night after some confusion. The room was cosy and comfortable, with a lovely view of a water feature on the golf course. However, upon arrival the windows were filled with condensation, which was only partly removed after being in the room with all windows open for a good few hours. Similarly, we showered just before the evening reception and the bathroom was still steamed up well into the early hours of the following morning. Facilities in the room were good, the room had everything we needed but realised we had forgotten a toothbrush. Rather than asking at reception we picked one up locally, as it was not obvious if such items could be obtained upon request and we did not want to face the embarrassment of asking. We did leave some things behind, though, and were travelling elsewhere before we had realised! The bed was comfortable, and the shower worked well with only a small case of the curtain sticking to you. Temperature was an issue, when we returned to the room after the party it was very cold but I was awake in the early hours feeling quite hot. As I wasn't drinking, I wasn't sure what that could be down to and was far too sleepy to fiddle with the radiator. What let the room down, apart from the condensation, was how dated it felt. The wallpaper had clearly been peeling off and stuck down crudely, there were chips in the paint and the blind had a hole burnt onto it as well as quite a lot of dead bugs. There was a lot of dust on some of the surfaces, too. A small niggle, but there weren't enough plugs around the bed (in an age where everyone has a mobile and charges it overnight next to them). Finally, and the most strange, was that the towels smelt faintly of curry, or something which towels should definitely not smell of! I believe that, with some TLC, the room could be lovely, and make the hotel seem much more loved and make for a more enjoyable stay.We did not use the spa facilities because of time constraints, but the club seemed rather popular with golfers who wandered past the window with their buggies. The room where the wedding party was held was quite a nice setting with friendly bar staff. The breakfast the next day was so-so. The emphasis was placed on the cooked breakfast, and it seems there would have been more choice if we had dined with the rest of the hotel guests, but the private room was a pleasant way to end a lovely wedding.Overall, a pleasant stay and lovely wedding in a venue that needs just a little more love.

Pleasant stay
My wife and I stayed here for 1 night recently to attend a friend's wedding locally and we had an enjoyable stay. The demenour of the property I would describe as average/tired. The rooms were clean and tidy but the decor could have done with freshening up and the leisure facilities would have been nice 10 years ago but probably could do with some TLC now. The leisure facilities have the feel of the local town leisure centre, indeed as they are open for the general public (beware of the kids swimming session times) that is exactly what they are, albeit they are not in or indeed very close to a town - however we were not expecting upmarket exclusivity at the price. That said, the facilities did exactly what they said on the tin. The pool, spa, sauna and steam room were all used by us and although they are all quite small (15m pool, 3-4 person spa, sauna, steam room) they were not over subscribed at any given time. We had a good look around at the other facilities and were impressed by the tennis courts and gym. We did not use the golf course so cannot comment on its layout, however it had a steady stream of players all weekend. If you have smaller children be aware that the pool is unattended so you will definately want to accompany them when using it.The staff were very good - from accomodating my request for a golf course view upon booking, to being very friendly and informative upon arrival. We were informed that checkout was by midday the next morning however were welcomed to use the facilities for the rest of the day, which was appreciated. We had a very nice continental breakfast in the morning and took advantage of the facilities after checking out. We were not in a rush so took the decision to stay on for lunch - had a great lunch on the balcony overlooking the 1st tee/18th green. The meal was good quality and whopping portions and finished our stay off nicely. We paid ¿¿75 B & B for a Saturday night stay which is probably about right as long as you make good use of the leisure facilities - otherwise it would be about ¿¿15-¿¿25 too expensive.
