Weekend away with the girls.
Myself and 4 other friends booked to stay here for 1 night. We enquired over the phone prior to booking - very helpful, polite and provided information on taxi fayres into the town centre etc. We travelled to newcastle train station and jumped into a taxi to take us to the hotel and the journey was approx 5mins and cost ¿¿10.40. On arrival we were warmly welcomed , although we were left confused when he asked us if we were a hen party....he had passed comment that there was a group of girls the previous weekend that had said they were only there for a quiet weekend and it turned out to be that they were on a hen party and they were 'wild' and made a mess of the rooms! we, as a group would of prefferred to be told that this hotel was not suitable for the 'younger' generation who would be coming in early hours making a noise. (although the mess and noise was not our intention) however, we were shown our rooms..absolutely stunning and the cleanliness was to a high standard! there was a shared bathroom but this did not cause any problems. only continental breakfast on offer, lovely selection but hot breakfast would be a winning choice! struggled to find our way back to the hotel due to taxi drivers not being aware of where this hotel was. unfortunately we got a taxi driver who took us to the wrong place twice...and our taxi fayre ended up at being ¿¿16. we met the cleaner on the sunday morning and she was lovely!!!NEGATIVES on the room & bathroom -plug sockets very low to the ground so we were unable to plug anythin in, we had to use the extension. -a few of us left on the sunday with numerous bruises due to the corners on the bottom of the beds- lighting not so bright- shower kept going from red hot to stone cold- not enough toilet roll provided in the bathroomPOSITIVES on the room and bathroom.- extremely comfortable and clean bedding- sufficient welcome pack (lovely biscuits!!)- large storage space, drawers/wardrobe- bathroom just lovely...spotless!!all in all, great value for money!

Four Poster Suite!
I had read all the reviews, looked at the pictures and booked hoping for the best but thinking at the price I paid for a 4poster suite Id just see what I got!The house was beautiful! The room was amazing, with a hidden dressing room and hugggge bath. (The bath was soooo big it took hours to fill - unlike other people we had loads of hot water but the cold tap didnt work? It was no problem though we just opened one of the gorgeous sash windows and it soon cooled)My partner had brought a bottle of champagne for us to enjoy and our lovely host was more than happy to bring up an ice bucket and 2 flutes. We followed advice and went up the road to Michelangelos which was amazing. The room was huge, VERY clean, perfect temperature and quiet. We heard no other guests even though the house was fully booked. The suite was amazing and would not hesitate to return!

Weekend away to view The Lady of the North
We travelled north to look at the world's largest human form landscape near Newcastle and chose the Hedgefield for 2 nights stay. Friendly welcome, lovely house and grounds and excellent room with working window shutters, 2 easy chairs and a large bathroom.Continental breakfast only but choice of toast, crossants, cereals, yogarts, fruit and cheese along with fruit juice tea and coffee.

CLEAN ROOMS
We booked this at short notice to go to family party We where given a room in the annex, in a twin rooms. The rooms were fine very clean and tidy if not a little small. The issue was that the walls were very thin and we could hear the guests snoring in the adjacent rooms. This wasn't good plus the bathroom and toilet are shared and across the hallway which along with the stairs creaked very loudly !so we where well informed as to all movements of the guests in the next room not good.We knew that there would be no cooked breakfast so we had toast and coffee which where fine. due to the bathroom been arcoss the hall i dont think i will rush back

Where you will like staying
I have stayed at the Hedgefield a few times now and thought I should write a review because I always forget to do them. As far as I am concerned you can keep your Marriott and Jarvis shmotels. What you get at the Hedgefield is personal touch, cleanliness, thoughtfulness and a quiet and suitable discretion. I asked them if they could accomodate me for a week longer than I had planned and David working out how they could, they even washed and ironed my work shirts beautifully with a few hours with no fuss which was worrying me. I consider that to be like staying at a friend's house you want to stay at (unlike the friends' houses you don't - if you know what I mean!) That is how I see the Hedgefield and I am back there next week for more R&R between a very busy work schedule. Nothing is perfect in this world and we humans are far from perfect so I would rather stay somewhere that showed care and attention and a personal touch that does not invade my privacy rather than a hotel where I have to write down my room number and still get lost trying to find it. Hedgefield is a lovely building converted to a hotel. It has what they call an annex where the rooms are not en-suite but the facilities are the same although some of the rooms are not as welcoming as the main hotel for which you pay less. Stepping into the Hedgefield has an overwhelming relaxing feeling and much eye candy in the spacious hall, the grounds are lovely and David and Anthony are very helpful. I have stayed in most of the rooms now over the last two and a half years and each one makes me smile when I walk in, deliciously sumptious and warm and still retaining the character of a beautiful old house. Now there is no cooked breakfast so get over it, what is on offer is eclectic, interesting, tasty and always fresh. There is more than enough to eat oh and by the way the music played in the breakfast room is different every day too, that is thoughtful. Up the road is the most awesome Italian restaurant I have ever been in (my sister has lived in Italy for 25 years so I do know good Italian food) the atmosphere, food, service, wine, people and prices are spot on so if you find something to complain about stay at home and moan at your partner or the dog. I always read the negative comments first when I want to buy something because they tell me far more than the positive ones (mostly about humans!) although there are some valid complaints there I know that David and Anthony will do whatever they can about the ones they can and I know they have. So go stay at the Hedgefield in the peacefulness that is so close to Newcastle but doesn't look or sound like it is. ¿¿3.50 return on the bus from the bottom of the hotel drive to the city centre, ¿¿11 one way in a taxi (Blaydon cars - couldn't fault the friendliness of any driver I had and on time every day!) The Metro Centre will blow your mind if that floats your boat and it's 10 minutes to that madness by bus and in through the door so no getting wet either.I could ramble on about the Hedgefield, no it isn't perfect but neither are we, or the Marriott, Copthorne and so on. Great value for money is what you do get though in a unique and tranquil setting with a quiet care and attention to detail that is so lacking in our world today.
