Better than expected
I had booked this hotel before reading any reviews. So, I was a little worried once I started reading some of the reviews! But, it has to be said I was then delighted on arrival to find everything was better than expected. Check in was quick and easy. You need to make sure you go the resort reception, not the individual hotels reception. We found are room easily. We were away for two nights with our 15 month old daughter. The room had a travel cot set up and two double beds. It was a good size, clean & perfectly functional. There is plenty to do in Aviemore and on the resort. The pool was out of action on our visit, but we made use of the soft play area. The breakfast was perfectly adequate & the staff helpful enough. Plenty of high chairs and space in the restaurant. All in all, a pleasant trip. Yes the Academy d¿¿cor is a little dated & the carpet in the lift needs replaced. But, everything in our room worked as it should. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of pillows. The shower was excellent, powerful & hot. (fan wasn't working, but not a deal breaker!)If you are someone who goes on holiday to spend a lot of time in your bedroom, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for somewhere cheap & cheerful to lay your head at night, this is a great hotel.

Excellent service, great breakfast and lots of things to do
Stayed here over the Easter holidays and couldn't fault it. The room was clean, the facilities and breakfast were great and the staff really could not have been more helpful. there are lots Yes, the Academy hotel decor is a bit dated, but for value for money I really couldn't fault it.We'll definately be back.

Easter Holiday Break - 9 -12th April 13
This was our 3rd visit to the resort once without children, the other 2 (including this one) with kids. Our room in the Academy Hotel easily slept 2 adults & three children (one a baby in a travel cot provided foc) with room to spare. It was clean & functional and adequate for a 3 night stay. Despite the heating sytem starting up at 6am each morning resembling the sound of an industrial generator starting up, live with that and you will be fine.Leisure facilities are excellent, towels provided for swimming and a functinal gym all under the one roof. Soft play, Spa, games room, & Art & crafts room are also housed here.Children & family entertainment was in abundence, with various childrens classes / activities on each hour of the day. Evening entertainment was fine for youngsters if a little rough around the edges, but free of charge it was worth paying a visit. Stewart Anderson's Ceilidh night is a giggle & gets the whole family involved, and the band are very helpful in explaining each dance beforehand. The Buffet self service breakfast was plentiful if a bit manic, in the main restaurant across the car park from the Academy Hotel. It did get busy but the staff seemed to cope with it reasonably well even if they were a bit slow in clearing the tables.Dinner in Giovanni's was reasonable and family friendly, with Aspects across in the Highland Hotel offering more formal and relaxed dining. The food in Aspects was very good and the staff very attentive, just watch out for for supplements if you stray from the DBB menu.Overall it was a pleasant stay just watch the drinks prices, other than that no real gripes and an ideal family resort which I would certainly recommend for a short family break.

Fantastic stay
I stayed at this resort for a skiing trip with my kids aged 5 and 8 in April. From the moment I walked in the door I was made increadibly welcome, and throughout the stay (4 nights) the staff were fantastic. I used the pool...great. There is a big slide and wave machine although that wasn't working. One side is really shallow which meant I could sit on the side and not freeze while my not quite swimming 5 year old was in. I went to the soft play as well which you pay for ¿¿4 and the outdoor playpark which despite being about 5 degrees had hammocks so I curled up in my down jacket and read a book (take a flask with you and you will be the envy of other parents.) We also used the pizza place which felt poshish but very child friendly with cheap kids menu. Nothing too much trouble. Oh used kids club too (parents stay holidays only). We went skiing a couple of times to Cairngorm mountain which would be great once my 5 year old can ski and actually stop! A bit hairy if they can't as ski school found out when he went flying through the air to land on top of them.Room fine, with everything you need. Perhaps a bit dated (TV) but meant the kids didn't watch tv all the time. All in all a great stay and would go again

Good kids facilities
Had a weekend stay , hotel was well catered for children , great entertainment, pity you have to pay for using the bouncy castles which was ¿¿8 for I hour for two kids. Evening meal was a bit of a let down , went for cavery , food was overdone and waitress service was poor , had to ask three times for my drinks order , then brought water but no glasses, quite frustrating with thirsty kids. Breakfast was self service , could do with with fruit bowl .Overall a reasonable hotel but next time I will be looking for special deals.
