Great Location for Theaters
Got the WJ on Hotwire for around $200 per night and would not pay any more. The location is fantastic for theater, dinning, Times Square etc. The building is an old converted apartment building with 1 elevator serving 6 floors. We were on 3 so ended up taking the stairs most of the time. The rooms are tiny - even for NY standards. Barely room for a suitcase between the bed and the wall. No central air but a noisy window unit was brought up upon request. It did help drown some of the street noise which was pretty bad on the 3rd floor. The fitness center is small and also without AC. Service was friendly but slow with multiple staff members speaking very broken English.

Good old WJ, great old neighborhood
This is the second time I've stayed here for business, each trip about a week. The location on 51st between 8/9 can't be beat for access to public transit, cabs, walking, restaurants, etc. The bathrooms are good with great products and showers--be careful: the showers easily flood the bathroom, so remember to turn the shower head away from the door. The bed this time was a touch uncomfortable but I've had more comfortable beds in the past. The housekeeping staff is friendly. I've had rooms facing the street and facing the courtyard. The courtyard is much quieter, but I like the street facing rooms for more light. Some of my colleagues don't care for the hotel, but it's a go-to for me and one I'll return to.

Convenient location, pokey rooms, helpful staff
This hotel is in a convenient location for anyone who needs to get downtown (the village and Wall St), across town (upper east side) or uptown (Upper west side). The rooms are really small and pokey. The building l and interiors look old, and in need of some refurbishment. I heard some weird banging noise on the radiators every now and then, most noticeable because most of the time it was quiet! It sounded like the Basilisk was in there (giant snake in Harry Potter). However everything else seemed to work, and the staff were attentive and very helpful. They checked with me when would be the most convenient time to clean the room. The 50th St subway (C,E lines) is literally around the corner. Central Park is only 8 blocks away and was the perfect place to run in the morning. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby. I liked the Bagel Stix on 53rd St & 8th Av for coffee and any kind of bagel! Ellen's Stardust diner is so much fun if you like American food and entertainment, and is only 2 blocks away on Broadway. I would only stay here again if the price was low.... It cost me about $1000 for 4 nights. I booked late, and another time I would hope for a better maintained hotel with more desk and bag space in the room.

Great Value
Fantastic hotel for tourists, on the small side but then this didnt bother us as we spent most of the time exploring NY.We stayed for 7 nights and found it very clean, free wi-fi, excellent service and great location. Would recommend to anyone who wants to be in the centre without the huge prices of other hotels.Would definately go back.

Small but nice, good value !
The lobby is very nice and clean, great and helpful staff. Elevator is small but that's no problem at all. Our room was on the 6th floor, standard double bed, very small but nice and cozy. Free internet, tv, safe and small gym. Housekeeping everyday, clean towels. Good value and close to Times Square. We will be back!
