stayed here 27 years ago trip down memory lane ,was not dissapointed,food great staff welcoming & the view stunning only thing was a bit dated and in need of an upgrade but over all would recomend ito anyone.great

After a wonderful drive from Edinburgh via Oban we were ready for this experience. The drive from Oban was spectacular in the late afternoon on cool crispy fall day.the Brownfield welcomes you with quite a view. All we say was"wow". The hostess was really friendly and assisted us with our check in. We asked about the evening meal and the location of the bar. The Stonefield is setup like a large home with many parlors, sitting rooms ,and libraries. A very charming place,with a warm fire combining wood and coal. The rooms were updated and very comfortable. The dinning was also top notch,both for dinner and breakfast. We had window tables which provided really nice views of Loch Tay.

Some time since we last visited. Much work has gone into the landscaping, and the flowering rhododendrons are spectacular at this time of year. Standard of service still very friendly and can-do, and the quality of catering could not be faulted. Our visit coincided with a mass booking of a tour group, but whereas at other hotels attention in these circumstances is entirely devoted to the group, we were still made to feel special.Some foibles remain - the curtains still don't close properly, not all the windows open (particularly in the bathroom) and there is not a great choice of TV channels (still couldn't get BBC 1 or 2) , but these are minor irritations.Overall, very tranquil and a great base for onward travel to Islay, the ferry being a further 10 miles or so down the road. We will be back.

Top marks for location, views, atmospheric interior and rooms. The walks around the surrounding shorelines and hills were particularly special.However the restaurant was a huge let-down: meat served at dinner was dry & lukewarm while the cooked breakfast was as far from 'freshly cooked' as is possible, and the eggs benedict swam in a dishful of watery liquid.'Award-winning'? I don't think so.

We got married here on June 2nd 2012 and cannot speak highly enough of the location, the staff and the venue. We had 110 guests at the wedding and many have stated it was the best wedding venue they'd ever been to. A beautiful setting overlooking the water in a secluded forest setting made it feel like our own little piece of paradise for the weekend. Conveniently located to Tarbert Village, it meant none of our guests were too far away. We took exclusive use of the venue for the weekend and would highly recommend this option. The staff were the cream on top - Anne and her team made everyone incredibly welcome, they are highly professional and accommodating. When the bus driver failed to arrive in glasgow airport, Anne rallied the entire team to make the 2.5hour trip to glasgow as a back up plan. Thankfully it wasn't required as the bus driver eventually arrived but it goes to show how committed they are. 110 guests for an Irish/Scottish wedding are obviously going to be a boisterous group but the staff accommodated everyone and helped keep the jovial and fun atmosphere throughout. Cutting the wedding cake with Anne's own sword was a brilliant touch. The contribution she made to the day with little contributions and the right words and touches at the right time made a huge difference and she did a world class job at her master of ceremony role. The venue itself is beautiful, genuine and spacious. The main restaurant overlooked the water, the bar had a fantasitcally cosy feel and the billiard and reading rooms allowed guests to move around during the weekend to avoid cabin fever. The grounds are immaculately kept and offer some scenic walks for those looking for some air. We also had 20 guests go clay pigeon shooting in the neighbouring farm. The bridal suite was amazing. The rooms are spacious and well presented, the old part of the castle in particular feels like it has an atmosphere all of its own. We were extremely lucky to be able to get married outside on the patio with an amazing backdrop. The food was spectacular and the attention to detail as well as focus on local produce gave a real Scottish culinary experience for everyone. Salmon, cheese, lamb, beef were all locally sourced and even the square sausage was legit! The chef facilitated a bbq on the Sunday to help people nurse hangovers before Round 2, this went down a treat. I cannot believe only 6 weddings were booked in for stonefield last year. We visited approximately 20 venues in the argyll, glasgow and ayr region and this was head and shoulders above the others. Anne and her team were flexible to the nth degree with us and helped make our wedding weekend a dream come through. We cannot speak highly enough of Stonefield and the team there.
