Only here for dinner
I do not enjoy writing negative reviews, and typically won't comment about a poor experience. However, the manager seems to care and a poor review affords the opportunity to improve. My friend and I were with a large tourthat ended up doing solo dinners because of a late ferry arrival. I picked the hotel as our spot thinking one can typically count on a hotel that caters to tourists as being a good choice. We seated ourselves and waited, and waited -- ignored completely. Staff saw us but never once asked if they could be of assistance. There were no signs to inform foreign tourists that they were in a self-service situation. Orders for the meal were finally placed. An hour later, still no meal, even though we ordered simple options. Finally, a kind young man came out to apologize and advise our orders had been lost. The hour was late and we were told our orders would be ready in five or six minutes. We agreed to wait. Twenty minutes later our orders finally arrived, only to be incorrectly plated. We sent them back but the order was never correct. And to top it all off, the food quality was poor. No one ever offered to make this situation "right" by comping the meal as would be done in most places. All i can say is if we are ever in this lovely town again, we will pass this hotel restaurant by.

Old but Charming
Stayed here for a night on 3rd May. Yes, this is an old hotel and may be a bit dated but it is also a charming one. Staff (reception and restaurant) were very friendly and the 2 waiters at dinner time went out of their way to help answer my questions. The dinner was fantastic and comes with a bottle of wine. The restaurant is cosy, nice and has a classy look to it. Breakfast was minimal but sufficient. When I entered the room, I was pleasantly surprised on how very spacious the room is! The ceiling is high, and even the bathroom comes with lots of space. Both the room and the bathroom are clean and the bed was comfy. The ferry terminal is just across the road which is handy for morning ferries out to the isles. For ¿¿79 dinner, bed and breakfast, there's nothing more I would ask for from the hotel and the wonderful staff. I had a wonderful time at the hotel and wished I had stayed for another night.

Another great stay!
Spent 2 nights here last week and loved it. We've stayed many times before and each time has been great. We had an extremely large ocean view room with 2 tub chairs placed at the bay window so had a perfect view of the ferries and fishing boats leaving and returning to the harbour. Ok the floorboards are a bit uneven but the hotel is very old and it's all part of the character. The breakfast is of a high standard with large continental buffet table and then your choice of cooked food including full Scottish, poached fish and grilled kippers, all very tasty. The staff are all pleasant and efficient and we will definitely be returning.

fantastic stay
my wife and i are just back from a group on break at the caledonian hotel oban, from the moment we walked through the automatic front doors till the day we left we did not have a single complaint, the staff were very helpfull and friendly. our room (114) was a really good size with a very comfortable super king size bed, a fantastic view across the harbour from the seats in the bay window, the bathroom again a really good size and well laid out with a free standing roll top bath and a seperate shower. all in all a really good room. we had a meal on the first night and it was very good as was the breakfast each morning with a great selection.so we really enjoyed a quiet and peacefull stay, we will be back. thanks to all.

Lovely atmospheric stay
Was there with a group of my friends....we all loved the place...yes, its old fashioned, but its like something out of the 1950s. The rooms were huge, warm and lovely. Bathroom was huge and lovely too, with a real bathtub. Towels were on heated pipes, so very snug and warm. The restaurant is very huge and again like something from the forties..and very clean. The reception staff was very nice and warm, so were the restaurant staff. The lift is the old fashioned kind, quite small, can take about two persons with luggage at a time....it has metal grill gates that one needs to shut manually...almost got my fingers caught once.Just outside the note and across the road, is a huge lake...I fed the swans there.I am a little psychic, and I sensed a 'presence' when I went into my friend's room..my friend slept very well and had no problems with it....it was a very friendly and benign presence...next time I will ask to stay in this room. Actually most hotels have such rooms, so really nothing to be feared.
