The De Vere group is always my first port of call whenever I look for a hotel! I have stayed in several different locations, and I have always found them to be exemplary (especially when the rooms are on an offer). However this time, I am left more than disappointed. we stayed in a Classic double room and I feel this is the root of the problem on this occasion. Through confusion on my partners behalf, this room was booked as it looked like an executive upgrade over the 'Contemporary double' we had stayed in at this hotel previously. The Room (125)Our room was located on the ground floor at the end of a maze of corridors; unfortunately, unlike a maze we were not graced with something nice to look at as we swung open the door. Honestly, the room was tired, dated, and very bland. Most of the furniture was battered and chipped not to mention ugly. The walls were no better, the room (which I must add was very large) had one piece of small artwork hung on the wall and that was upside down! Thankfully, we didn't have to stare at the walls all night as there was a decent sized tv in the room which benefitted from a full selection of freeview channels. However, this brings me onto the rest of the electricals in the room starting with the phone/clock/radio combo-unit which came straight from the 80's only functioned as a phone as the hard wiring to the unit had come loose leaving an exposed wire for anybody to touch. Moving swiftly onto the built in hairdryer, hidden in one of the cupboards was also from the the 1980's and much like the clock/phone it too seemed dangerous to use only ratified by the fact they had also left a newer hair dryer in the room. The BathroomThe bathroom was clean and tidy with fresh towels and a nice selection of soap and shower gel on hand. I can overlook the fact it was dated as it was in reasonable condition, what I can't overlook however is the fact on of the lights flashed repeatedly like a strobe light, this meant it was impossible to spend very much time in the bathroom before probably getting a headache; ruling out the possibility to have a bath. What bugs me the most about this issue is that the cleaner would have used the light that day and seen that it was flashing and just ignored it. We were unable to remove the bulb as it was in a concealed unit and we didn't bother trying reception as it was a weekend and we figured not much would have been done. The stayThe bed, the bedding and the pillows were all very clean and very comfortable, so at the end of the day all else can be forgiven if we had an amazing nights sleep? Wrong! We stayed on a very warm day in May which obviously warmed the room up considerably, not a problem during the day as we were able to fling open the double french doors in the bedroom and air the room out. However leaving double doors open overnight was not an option and there was no other window to leave ajar meaning it was like spending a night in an oven. Not comfortable at all. To sum up, I was very much disappointed by our stay at Wokefield park this time, I had high expectations from the last time I stayed and I won't let it put me off staying again, but let this be a lesson to everybody... the classic doubles are the worst in the hotel, pick any other grade of room and you won't be disappointed.

We recently held our company kick-off meeting at this location with around 130 members. Venue was excellent. Great location to keep everyone centrally located and all of the rooms, meeting facilities, amenities and food were top-notch.

Until today I had not written a review but felt that some criticisms by guests seem to vary from our own experiences that it needed a little bit of a counter balance. In my experience of this hotel and others in the group service is something they pride themselves in. In particular a young male member of staff, I believe his name was Andrew but I cannot be certain, took time out to describe the former servants quarters that run underneath and the full length of the hotel. That it was virtually unaltered from earlier times although used now for storage. He didn't need to do this as his main job appeared to be helping in the bar. He had realised that we took a greater interest in the history of the building than many of the guests and wished to share that knowledge with us. We appreciated that very much.We found our stay very enjoyable with a well equipped comfortable room, having all the amenities one would expect. The breakfast was varied and plentiful. Overall ,with the deal we got, it was tremendous value and would recommend it to anyone.

Stayed here for two nights for a wedding and have to say the area hotel and location is really nice. For me what stood out was the service. Asked for fresh towels and in 5 mins it was there! Never seen towels delivered so quickly lol. We had great service from the reception and especially at breakfast from a guy call Raj! Made us feel welcomed and made us all laugh from a Heavy night! Enjoyed my stay very much!! FYI coffee machine is fantastic!!! ;)

Very very nice, reasonably priced and very modern, clean and friendly. Bar prices a bit too high and food is at a premium price but overall a really nice stay. Coffee is free and is one of the best I've tasted. Would definetly stay again
