Emergency Standby
A relative was in Stepping Hill and I didn't know if they would be kept in or discharged. As I had no contingency arrangmets I dropped into the Hoteland asked as to room availibilty. I ened uo booking a room at a rate that was more than accepatble for B&B. The man at reception was excellent.nI didnt need the room over night but went ack in the morning to use the shower and room to get changed and ot have a good breakfast.room just what I needed. Shower did the trick... And breakfast excellent. I can't tell you what I paid but the breakfast was worth it aloneIf you have rellis in Stepping hill reccommend it......

you get what you pay for
On arrival I was greeted by the manager, check in was easy and quick. I only paid ¿¿24 for bed and breakfast so I wasn't expecting much really, The lobby area was fine and seemed busy in the evening with guests. The hotel is very dated but again what do you expect from 3 star? I got what I paid for, clean white sheets, clean towels in bathroom, room was clean, bathroom was clean again due to aged of decoration it was not the best which can make it look grubby but it was kept very clean. They provided a range of toiletries;Double bed, tv with remote, free wifi that worked in the room. The coffee in the room is vile so take your own, you can get more milk from reception at any time. There was a range of breakfast items, nothing fancy but basic breakfast, tasty bacon good range of items including hot fresh fried eggs. Coffee on tap, juices etc better than I had expected The staff were lovely and working really hard to please guests. I would stay again as it did exactly what it says for a one night stopover. However, the bed was very hard so I think one night is enough. I feel it was value for money and felt secure staying there, also free parking

You'd do better to sleep in the car!!!
Foolishly I talked a colleague out of staying in another hotel in order to stay here, closer to our meeting. What a mistake! The external decor of the hotel is poor, it certainly looks as though it hasn't been painted for 10 years at least. To get to reception I had to negotiate my way through at least 20 smokers stood in the doorway - not a great impression. The receptionist, whilst not rude, certainly was more efficient than welcoming and the directions to my room (room 264) were "It's down on the right, second floor." If you add a couple of lefts, another right and a rickety 1930s lift and you're about there. Some corridors have a distinct tobacco smell, while others aren't so bad. The decor is tired and the corridor carpets filthy. The room was small, and with the low price I didn't expect anything palatial. Good Job! The room was filthy - the cleaners should be charged with 'taking money under false pretenses'. A couple of very dead flies on the window sill would suggest it hadn't been cleaned for some time. The dust on the 1950s furniture certainly had some vintage, and the 'short and curlies' in the bath and on the bath mat weren't giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling. The significant mould and mildew on both the window frames and around the bath is just simply unacceptable at any level of hotel. The mattress was as cheap as I think it is possible to buy and paper was peeling from the ceiling in at least two places. Having seen the state of the rooms, I was certainly in no mood to try the dinning room, instead preferring to visit a local Indian / Bangladeshi restaurant called Saffron. Excellent meal for 1 for ¿¿10.95 and worth a visit!!!Back at the hotel, the bar closed on the dot of 11pm, which is unusual for a hotel. What was slightly annoying was that the young lady behind the bar could have called 'last orders' and missed out on valuable sales for the sake of asking those near the bar.Breakfast was disappointing in the extreme. Dirty cups, cold stewed tea, no orange juice, filthy bowls, cooked breakfast swimming in grease and just one waitress seemingly on duty who was mostly cleaning (How ironic!) rather than paying any attention to the guests.Because there was so much wrong with this hotel, there was no point complaining to reception... I was checking out and as quickly as I could. Britannia Hotels, whilst maybe making ¿¿9.5 Million after tax, are certainly spending none of these profits to bring this hotel to anything like an acceptable standard. I have stayed in maybe 200 hotels all around the world, and this is without doubt the worst. It doesn't the 'Hotel Inspector', it needs a Health Inspector!

good quality budget hotel with quirky period features
Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights while working in Stockport for business. On arrival to the hotel I was impressed with the lovely art neauveu handles on the front doors. Nice welcoming lobby with comfortable bar. the attached spa and swimming pool was a real bonus. Going up in the lift was a bit of an adventure it was an original 1930s cage mechanisim just loved it ! I was happy and comfortable in my room, the bed was nice and comfy and the other furniture in the room was period 1950s just loved this bit of nostalgia .it might not be for all but perfectly OK for me.
