Excellent Stay, excellent food
From arriving at the hotel I knew we would enjoy it, such an idyllic setting, lovely frindly welcome into a very homely/country manor feel reception.Staff very friendly apart from maybe the beauty rooms ladies who weren't particulaly helpful. We ate in our room as we had our little one but the room service menu was great and we enjoyed all it had to offer :)The pool was lovely and big and the family changing room was a nice touch. The bedroom was huge and looking over the 18th hole certainly kept one half of us happy!!Will certainly do our best to get back, thank you to the lovely receptionists for picking up that it was my birthday and thank you for my cards!

Average hotel above average prices
A lovely looking hotel with on the whole friendly staff, if you forget the bar staff that is. The room was overlooking the lower roofs to the rear, was no better than adequate and tired looking with the dreaded shower curtain in the bathroom. We had booked for afternoon tea but got told no booking however we could be fitted in as there was a cancellation, what a pity as it would have been worth missing. The bar staff were more interested in themselves than the customer with tables left unclean until another party sat at them. The food in the restaurant was of good quality although the staffing levels meant that we had to wait 5 minutes to be seated as the person seating customers was also cleaning tables. Not the best or worse hotel but certainly not one we will hurry back to.

Overnight Stay
We have just returned from an overnight stay at this hotel using an Itison voucher. Overall our stay was great apart from one slight hiccup. Our voucher paid for dinner, bread and breakfast, a bottle of wine, late checkout and slippers and dressing gowns. On check in we handed in our voucher and were directed to our room which was on the 2nd floor overlooking the 17th hole. It was a good sized room with the extras we were expecting. The wine in our room was white but we prefer red and on asking for it to be changed we were told that was no problem and that we could have it with our dinner if we wished. On arrival for dinner we exchanged our wine no problem. Dinner itself was superb, great portions, hot tasty food and friendly staff. On returning to our room we got ready for bed only to receive the first of 2 phone calls. On answering the phone we were told that we hadn't signed for dinner or allocated a credit card for payment. I explained this was included in our Itison voucher and was told that they would look into that. After turning out the light the phone went for the 2nd time and we told then that we hadn't paid for the wine we had for dinner I explained again that this was included in our deal. Breakfast was as expected - hot and freshly cooked with plenty of choice from the cereals and fruit buffet - only criticism would be too quick to serve hot food if you are having cereal. On checking out we were asked about our stay and we explained the problem with the phone calls - Receptionist apologised but I would say that there is a lack of communication between the Reception staff (who took our voucer) and the dining room staff (who were chasing us for payment). Even after this we would still return and stay again.

One night Birthday treat
Just back from a night's stay at Marine Hotel, Troon. This was our third time at the hotel and we wanted a nice, relaxing short break close to home. Staff as always were very pleasant and efficient and we were given a warm welcome. We were given a room with a sea and course view which was great but it was a little small compared to others we've had in the hotel. Spa facilities were great, with robes and slippers available on request. The evening meal was lovely - the stand out dish being the sticky toffee pudding. Breakfast was good too. A cold buffet with croissants, wee pastries, yogurt, cereal and fruit is available with a Full Scottish breakfast cooked to order. Tea was a little weak in the pot but that's just my taste. Would definitely recommend using the later check out facility at the weekend as after breakfast we went back to the pool for a few more hours relaxation. Overall, a great Birthday treat from my husband.

Excellent hotel: Restaurant and Rooms First Class. Shame about the Afternoon Tea
We have just returned today from a most enjoyable stay at the Marine Hotel in Troon. When we arrived a bit early at about 12 noon, the Fiona the most polite receptionist checked to find out if our room was ready and it was. It was an excellent sea view room, so we must have been upgraded. We had come early as we were there using an Itison voucher which included a hot stone massage for both of us, which we had booked for 1.30. The massage was relaxing and efficient but we have had better. We then went for afternoon tea which was "entertaining"! We went into the bar where we were told afternoon tea was available. We sat for some time, before we managed to attract the attention of one of the three members of staff who were on duty in the fairly quiet bar. We asked her if we could have afternoon tea. She said yes, and then left us, we presumed perhaps to get a menu. She came back shortly afterwards with two dishes of jam and some butter. About 5 minutes later a waiter appeared carrying two triple deckers plate racks, with sandwiches on the bottom, cakes on the middle and scones and cream on the top. He put one on our table without comment and then took the other to a table at the other end of the bar. After more than 5 minutes when no tea had appeared, we called the girl back over and asked about our tea, She almost seemed surprised by our request, and asked if we wanted tea! We said yes, and she returned first with two very large cappuccino cups and saucers. She apologised that she had nothing smaller, but did offer to go and look if we thought they were a bit big! As we had waited a fair bit, we just said they were fine. She then came with the milk, suger and a very small pot of tea. We said we did not think that was enough tea, as it would barely have filled even one of the cups. She agreed and said "she was just not with it today", and immediately brought another pot, which did not match the first, and looked more like a water and not a tea pot, although it did have a tea bag in it. The tea we had barely filled the huge cups, so we asked for a pot of hot water which came very quickly in a pot that matched the tea pot! The sandwiches, were OK, the cakes bought in and the scones with "skooshy" cream OK. We had not been given any indication of cost up to this point, but were not particularly bothered, as we just wanted a nice break in a good hotel. The cost was ¿¿12.50 each, and this was not good value for money. When I approached the bar for our bill, I was just told by the waiter-¿¿25.When I paid I was also concerned that I had to ask for a receipt. I did not doubt for a second that it had been properly rung up, I just wanted to have proof that I had paid, in case it was charged to our room.Very disappointing. Now for the pluses, and there were many. The dinner in the evening was excellent in every way, both in respect of the quality of the food and the standard of service. Both our starters, main courses and cheeseboard were as good as we have had, and we have been to very many good four and five star hotels. We also had an excellent table at the window of the restaurant overlooking the 18th. fairway of the Royal Troon Golf Club, only a few yards away, and then out to the sea and the Isle of Arran in the distance. Breakfast in the morning was similar, with both the full Scottish breakfast and service being first class. Interestingly, after our dinner we asked if we could have our coffee in the bar and were told that would not be a problem. We ordered two cappuccinos, expecting them to come in the cups we had in the afternoon. But no, they came in large tea cups! I would have to say though, that throughout our stay all the staff were very pleasant, and the only disappointment was the afternoon tea, which was really down to staff training or a lack thereof. I always feel the acid test of any hotel is, would we stay again? And the answer is a resounding yes, Excellent restaurant in respect of both food and service, lovely room, c
