Run down and overpriced.
Another hotel that looks impressive in the lovely photos but unfortunately doesn't live up to expectations. I would rate this at 2 - 3 star and it really should be ¿¿60-¿¿70 instead of the ¿¿130 I was charged for a double room.The corridors, doors, rooms and e suites were in need of a good quality refurb and only then should these prices be charged!There was an overwhelming smell (not a good one) of food throughout the hotel on arrival.Staff pleasant, evening food in bar was ok as was breakfast. Beds not great. Overall - Not recommended.

A missed opportunity
This hotel could be so much more but disappoints in lots of areas. It is located north west of the city, approximately 7 miles from the airport. The grounds are expansive and pleasant to walk around and the building suggests greater things inside. Whilst the service was very pleasant, that's where the good points stop.My bedroom was small - there was enough room for the double bed and an ironing board to be erected but that was about it. The bathroom was neat and tidy without frills although the fixed head shower was far too low and I'm only 5 foot 9! Food in the Simpson restaurant flattered to deceive although the menu reads quite well. Furnishings are dated throughout and along with a poor 'atmosphere' in the building contributed to leave me very disappointed.I always look for positives and strive to give as balanced a review as possible when writing these reviews but on this occasion I truly felt let down.

Disappointing stay
I had failed to obtain overnight accomodation in the area, when I called this hotel. I initially declined their offer of a single room at ¿¿99, and said I would keep looking. Still unsuccessful, I called back about 6pm and asked if we could do a deal on the room given the time. We agreed a compromise and I checked in about an hour later. The building was very grand, but my room was not. Although a reasonable size, it was very dark due to the size and location of the window. The ceiling height was about 9 feet and the window was over six feet up from the floor, to the ceiling; it only gave me a view of the sky.The bed was comfortable and the facilities good. My second disappointment came when I seated myself for breakfast to be told that there was only toast and cereals as the chef had not turned up.I made a passing comment about this, when I checked out, and to be fair the staff deducted a reasonable amount from my bill.I would not stay there again from choice, as it is far too expensive for my budget.

2 night stay
First impression were very good hotelis set in some amazing grounds. Ist night had a lovely meal in the restaurant and a few drinks in the cellar bar. The log fires both in the cellar and drawing room very nice. Breakfast was good. But the bedrooms our bed was very uncomfortable and seemed to be something out of the ark. My husband had great difficulty having a shower as the shower over the bath was so low, if you 5ft 5 or shorter your okay. The day we were leaving the major refurishment was starting so are planning to return to see what they have done.

not great
I accompanied my partner on his business trip, staying at this hotel. I was looking forward to relaxing and using the leisure facilities. The pool,sauna and jacuzzi closed on our first night there,(we were there for 2 nights). They were still closed on the morning we left, it was extremely disappointing. The hotel was being refurbished when we were there. We had to enter the hotel through a side entrance....not even spruced up as it was now the temporary main entrance, it was dingy and uninviting. I didnt get to see the front of the hotel at all due to work being carried out. The staff were all pleasant, especially the dutch girl in the downstairs bar. The rooms are comfortable enough but really need refurbished. The ceiling in our bathroom was badly damaged. I'm afraid we will stay elsewhere next time.
