Friendly and cosy in fabulous setting - very dog friendly
We stayed here for a weekend, with a bouncy labrador in tow! The staff were all incredibly helpful and we received a very warm welcome from Shane, who gave us a thorough tour of the premises on our arrival. The building is very atmospheric and we had a four-poster bed in a room which overlooked the courtyard, to enable us to bring our dog in and out more easily. The room was handsome although a little dark, but warm, spacious and comfortable and a good selection of tea and real coffee. We were allowed to leave the dog in there whilst dining without any objection. The landlady and her team have created a convivial atmosphere for both locals and non-locals. The pub itself had a fine selection of beers, ciders and spirits as well as an impressive wine list. The pub area was also very dog-friendly, which added to its charm, and is supervised by Dudley, a fluffy and sociable cockapoo belonging to the landlady. We had a delicious evening meal and the portions were rather copious. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxed and the service was attentive but not interferingly so. The Inn is set in a beautiful and quiet village (complete with a supermarket next door for essentials), with roaming countryside providing public footpaths along which we could take the dog for lengthy walks. There is also a green at the back of the hotel which was perfect for an afternoon or evening stroll. The village is about 20 minutes away from Bath itself, so a good alternative location to staying in the city. The only complaint I would have would be regarding the breakfast, which seemed geared very much towards full English, as opposed to fresh fruit (which was a little tired). But the full English, and particularly the locally sourced sausages, was delicious. All in all, we spent a wonderful weekend here and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was the perfect place to wind down and we will certainly return.

Memorable Experience
We booked into The Monmouth room on April 18th for two nights. To say that our stay was memorable is a bit of an understatement, as this fantastic Inn will stay in our minds for many years to come.We didn¿¿¿t dine as we found the selection available not to our liking and, yes, it appeared rather pricey (meats a little too gamey) but atmosphere and drinks well up to the mark, and staff very friendly. Breakfast was one of the nicest we have tasted in years in an outstandingly beautiful breakfast room.Previous residents in the Monmouth had complained about noise; there was certainly no problem with traffic or outside noise but we had the embarrassing experience of having to listen to a young couple having a very loud and personal discussion in the bedroom below. There was a gap between the stone hearth slab and the floorboards where you could actually see as well as hear their argument word for word. Did point this out to the management, but as this is a listed building, apparently the brewery can do very little to correct this fault.Otherwise, everything was more than up to expectations in this beautiful part of the world.

A wonderful building....possibly beyond compare....
You won't be disappointed with the building and history...but you might be with the menu, prices, and staff that change a lot. There is however a wonderful garden that looks out over the cricket green and church.

Fantastic venue and amazing cuisine
We were dissapointed when our room reservation was messed up by the booking agent. But the hotel manager found us an alternative just up the road. We came back for dinner the following evening, and it was amazing. I had the Venison in red wine, really tender, tasty and cooked to perfection. The meal was really good value, the service excellent and surroundings quaint. It's a must if you are in the area. The staff really friendly and helpful.

Friendly staff and wonderful setting
Called in unexpectedly on the Bank Holiday Monday 5th May. Although the restaurant was fully booked we were able to sit at a table in the pub itself which we were really happy with. The atmosphere was great and the staff friendly, helpful and chatty. Dudley, the resident dog, was soon amusing the youngest member of our group - he has a wonderful temperament. We found that all the food was home cooked and freshly made. We loved the old pub itself and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone passing by.
