Not as bad as we thought it may be!
We got this hotel through Priceline Name-Your-Own price as we wanted a hotel near Fenway Park. After reading most of the reviews on this website, we were terrified to stay here. However, it wasn't as bad as we thought. Yes, the layout is quite odd, but oddly unique. After reading on here that the tower rooms were better and newer, we requested one upon arrival and they were easily able to accommodate us and make our queen bed a king. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were older and average, but clean. I did not like how the room had a window facing the inside of the restaurant there instead of outside, but that's my personal preference. The hallway was very hot, but inside our room, the AC worked great. We walked to Fenway was about 20 minutes and there is a T stop located right across the street. For 1-2 nights, this hotel does the job.

Stayed here in April. Good Beds and pillows very comfortable. Coffee making facilities only, not a tea bag in sight, and no refrigerator. Room and bathroom extremely small, but a nice outlook with rooms overlooking pool area and a Court Yard.

Hotel room was okay and on the most part clean.Front desk people were very helpful and friendly, always had a smile. Can't say the same for one of the Asst. Mgr., took me 3 calls before I got to talk with him, left messages on his voice mail, but never returned my calls, 3rd time when I complained , they somehow found him and he came to the phone, but seemed to be upset that I complained that he did not return my previous calls. He did take care of my "problem" but seems not to happy that he had to handle the problem. Definitely not a "people person".As for the restaurant.... would have to rate that a 1.... at best. Cold buffet , very poor service, they had one (1) waiter, and the time we were there, they had at least 3 large groups staying at the hotel. Our group alone had 200 people ! The bar area had 1 bartender, 1 waiter and both had to seem to have one speed - "slow", and we'll get to you when we can !! Just sit down and wait, that is if you can find a clean and cleared table.

Better than expected
After reading reviews of the hotel, I expected to worst. My family had booked rooms for a wedding and even though we didn't get the best room (since we needed one earlier than regular check-in), it was just fine - clean, comfortable and no HVAC issues at all. Even noise was not an issue (except for one instance, more on that later). In fact, the only complaint was that the shower hot and cold was reversed - not really a big problem. The t.v. was fine, although it would have been nice to have a guide for the channels - there wasn't even a cable guide so you had to flip through one by one. We did have breakfast at the Sunday buffet and that was fine as well. We needed the staff a couple of times and they were friendly and efficient. As for the noise, well, the walls were thin - apparently, the man in the next room "got lucky" one night and was very vocal about it! But even that didn't disturb our stay.

Lower Your Expectations to Avoid Disappointment
The only reason I would again stay at this property is its convenient location to family in Brookline. The location is great, right on Beacon St, close walking distance to shopping, restaurants, hospitals, etc. I think I was assigned the worst room in the hotel after booking online via Holiday Inn's website. My room was first floor, closest to the lobby, next to an employee room of some sort. There was little privacy due to the constant foot traffic indoors and out. We were awakened every night by loud employees, who apparently had no regard for the guests trying to sleep next door.We had two major maintenance issues. The first night the bathroom sink faucet broke in the "on" position and gushed steaming hot water. That repair took an hour. We were offered a move but had already unpacked and were ready for bed. We should have moved. They did manage to replace the faucet and gave us 2 coupons for free breakfast. The next maintenance issue was the air conditioning. The fan failed to come on so the room was over 78 degrees despite being set at 68. I made 4 calls to the front desk over a period of 14 hours and still returned at 10pm to a hot room. They assured me at least three times that it had been fixed, but clearly it was not. The grumbly maintenance man was complaining about his work load and just tinkered with the thermostat and left. This time I did move rooms, my last night there to a much better room on the 6th floor. The difference between the two rooms were like night and day.First room - no tub just a shower, no vanity space in the bathroom, one short towel bar, no easy chair or refrigerator in the room, very small closet, small room. The second room had all those amenities and was not on a busy walkway or next to an employee space. The front desk worker stressed that she was putting me in "much better room." All she accomplished was to make me regret paying as much as I did for the first room and feeling duped by Holiday Inn. The full size beds (really..they can't put in at least queens) in each room were clearly old, well-worn and very mushy. This was over $1000 for a four night stay. Hotels in the area are expensive but I feel that I paid top dollar and was given the worst they had to offer. Lesson learned - move rooms, insist on adequate repair of maintenance problems and try really hard to stay at another hotel.
