Don't be fooled by the photo!
Foolishly, I chose this hotel for an overnight stay based on the photograph and the price of the room. I should have known better....On arrival, I was bitterly disappointed with the first impression - the windows looked as if they would fall out with the slightest breath of wind, the paintwork was more shabby than chic - generally a million miles from the photograph. The owner was however pleasant and offered to help with our bags. Our room was on the top floor and unfortunately smelled and felt damp and cold. There was no hot water, except that provided by the electric shower and the en-suite bathroom was so small that we could not comfortably sit on the toilet without smashing our knees against the bath. A limited selection of toiletries were provided but I would have felt less offended if there were none.I genuinely could not bring myself to look at the bedlinen before getting into bed, for fear that I would have just walked out. At ¿¿55 I was expecting a slightly higher quality room, not the ritz, but at least to have wallpaper attached to the walls and more reassuring electrics than multi plugs attached to the limited number of sockets in the room. I couldn't understand why there was so much furniture in the room, until my husband looked behind them and discovered peeling wallpaper and damp patches. This was not a room for children based on the steep stairs and trailing cables - had ours been with us I would have driven away. The towels however appeared to be clean. We did not book in for breakfast, but this was a relief to be honest.I do not wish to offend the owner with my comments, but the hotel would benefit from some basic improvements which would make the experience altogether more enjoyable. I also know however that these may be expensive to implement. Unfortunately I can't help feeling that he either needs to commit major investment to save his business, or simply go bust from lack of bookings. The important lesson from all of this? Read the reviews thoroughly before booking and be clear about your expectations!

Wonderful B&B we recommend to others
We booked this hotel reluctantly, having read some negative reviews. But it was inexpensive compared to others, had WiFi and was in a good location, so we booked it. We are so glad we did. The proprietors were as pleasant and helpful as they could be, the room was very nice and quiet. The beds and linen were clean and comfortable - absolutely no problem with insects of any sort. We stayed for two nights.Although one can include breakfast in the price, we chose not to and hence got a lower price. We are a retired couple from the US spending a month touring southern England and parts of Wales focusing on gardens and the outdoors. We plan just a few days ahead and in the last 2 to 3 weeks have stayed in B&B's, an inn over a pub, and Travel Lodges. We rate the Falcon as the top 1 or 2 we have stayed in during this time. There were some nice touches. The WiFi was excellent. The room included an actual telephone, a rarity on this trip. Shampoo and soap were provided. We were on the top floor and so had some beautiful views. We recommend this place to others and it would be our first choice if we were coming through here again.

A total misrepresentation
When I turned up I thought the hotel had closed down. Window frames rotten and flaking paintwork everywhere, Weeds in the driveway and grass over a foot high - not a good first impression. The decor inside can at best be described as very very tired, The room was equally a tired and needed dusting, however there was clean linen and and towels. The bed was old and uncomfortable - so I checked out and went to the Premier Inn. The place needs a complete overhaul and is not worth the money.

"free stay" was not worth it
I cant comment on toehr rooms, but avoid room 2. this room abuts the road, and there is heavy traffic all night. got no sleep. The bed was soft and uncomfortable, and due to regular itching/ bites I had whilst in the bed, I suspect fleas. The sheet was dirty- looks like it trailed on the ground whilst being washed( or maybe that its what i want to think!). Unfortunatley i only saw this the next morning. Milk in room out of date. orange bathroom suite. bathroom carpet had holes cut in it for a differnt bathroom suite.CArpet was all-over "faded" colour( or maybe it was dirt??0. Great if you like rugs- these are plentiful and cover the holes/worn bits in the carpet well.Dont even think about wi-fi- I doubt the electrical circuits would be able to cope!I didnt meet Graham, so did not even get the warm welcome that others have mentioned.I got this room free, as a promotional offer, and very much wish I had not done so. It was worth it for have foregone the "opportunity"

Better than the reviews
We wouldn't have stayed here based on the reviews but other members of our group chose the Falcon over the Premier Inn a few yards away, based on price. It is everything the reviews say - tired d¿¿cor, patched up broken windows - but also a warm welcome and a great breakfast. The room was warm and quiet and the bed comfortable. Don't expect too much and you might be pleasantly surprised.
