Coming back to the Silla is like coming home again
We have stayed at the Silla 6 or 7 times now since 1999, and would never stay anywhere else in Firenze. The room was very clean, large and furnished in Tuscan style with matching brocade fabrics on the chairs, curtains and bedcovering. The bath was large and newly-renovated with all new fixtures and lovely tile on floor and walls. It's in Oltrarno, so it's also very quiet -- much better than the other side of the river for sleeping.Breakfast is always ample and of good quality, and we had breakfast outside on the terrace, weather permitting. Parking is available if you have a car as we usually do. The location is also great for getting into and out of the city if you want to go on day trips out to the hill towns, Val di Chianti, etc.The location, by the Ponte alle Grazie bridge is perfect -- all the best sights of Firenze are a short walk across the river. There are also many lovely restaurants nearby. The best attribute of the Silla, for us, is still the people on the staff. Over the years they have become our friends. They are always warm and delightful and ready to help. They are truly our Italian "cousins" and we always enjoy their company when we are there, and miss them when we leave.

Great Hotel, Excellent Location
We stayed at that hotel for 5 nights and were very pleased. The location is excellent, especially if you arrive driving your car: The hotel has its own parking and is located within walking distance to all the attractions of the city, but is outside the limited traffic area. The staff was very kind and helpful: helped carrying our luggage from and to the car; helped with any request or question we had about the city. The room and bathroom were clean and equipped with everything we needed. The buffet breakfast was rich and tasty. We highly recommend Hotel Silla and we'll stay there again next time we'll visit Florence.

Hotel Silla is our home away from home in Florence!
I believe this is our 4th stay at the Hotel Silla and each visit is perfect. This trip we stayed for two weeks. Where do I begin? Our accommodations are always very comfortable, very clean, well attended. We had a spacious apartment which was perfect for our extended stay. Every person that works at the Silla is so friendly, fun to interact with, happy to please. You begin to feel like they are your friends. I know we are friends. They care about you. Breakfast is wonderful! Delicious! Very good selection and the egg cooker is the best. We love the location on the left bank of the Arno away from the hustle and bustle. The Silla is in a neighborhood full of wonderful restaurants and night life. Very safe to walk around day or night. Within walking distance of all the museums, shopping and attractions. We send our thanks and best wishes to everyone at the Hotel Silla. We can't imagine staying anywhere else when we visit Florence one of our favorite citiies in the world. Grazie!

Treated like kings in this former Palazzo!
We had been recommended a more expensive hotel by a friend who had been to Florence before but after careful consideration and reading many reviews, we booked Hotel Silla for our first trip to Florence because of its good recommendations and great price. Our excellent customer service started weeks before we even got to the hotel. Being first timers to Florence, we were keen to make sure we knew what we were doing and where we were going. Massimo on reception handled my numerous emails with ease and courtesy, giving us advice on where to get football tickets for Fiorentina and putting us at ease about our late arrival. When we got there, we were shown to a fantastic room on the 3rd floor, very spacious with super comfortable bed, brand new sparkling bathroom with large monsoon shower and flat screen TV. The concierge then thrust the gold and bronze drape curtains open to reveal a fab Juliet balcony overlooking the breakfast terrace. The room was spotless and made up every day.I'll get down to the facts that travellers will find most useful.1. Location. This hotel is on what's known as the Oltrarno. Some people may think this is a long way from the sights, but we found it an ideal location! Most people arrive at Santa Maria Novella station. From there, if you arrive too late for a bus it is a good 30 minutes walk at a moderate pace (the BF reckons he could do it in 20, but I'm a lot slower than he is) but all you do is head for the river and walk along it until you reach Ponte Alla Grazie. Silla Hotel is 1 min walk from here.If you arrive in time for the bus, the D bus will take you right from SMN to the road Silla is just off. It will be 2Euro and the stop is called 'Hotel Silla'. Just ask the driver to let you off at Ponte Alla Grazie. Ponte Alla Grazie is 5 mins walk from Ponte Vecchio and the Pitti Palace, two of the most magnificent sights in Florence. Also, to the left and slightly behind the hotel is Piazza Michaelangelo and it's worth the climb to the top for the great views. Across the Ponte Alla Grazie is everything else; Duomo, Uffizi, Palace Vecchio, Academia (for the David) and much more. You can be there in 10 mins if you walk at a brisk enough pace. But of course if you aren't up to the walk, there is always the D bus, get dropped off at the SMN station, go see the church of SMN and then flit off to the main attractions that way. if you have your Firenze Card the buses are all inclusive for a 72 hour period anyway. At night there is a club called Zoe next door which is quite trendy and plays dance music. Do not be put off by this. Our room was right at the front and we couldn't hear anything from up in our room apart from the odd car or bike rolling past and the music is usually off by 11ish anyway.2. Breakfast. You get: toast, boiled eggs, bread rolls, salami, ham, cheese, a selection of pastries, cereals, fruit salad, yogurt, biscuits and various different cakes plus a selection of condiments such as jams, marmalade and nutella to go on your crackerbreads and crispbreads. Self service coffee and fresh fruit juice and water but they will bring you as many cappucinos, hot chocolates or pots of English breakfast tea you want if you don't like those. After breakfast is finished, they leave the coffee, hot water, a selection of tea bags of all different kinds and a selection of cake and pastries out until around 2/3pm in the afternoon for guests who need a mid-aft pick me up before continuing sightseeing. And it's all delicious!3. The hotel itself is 3* but the staff are easily 5*. Nothing is too much trouble. Fancy a late night supper but the hotel doesn't have room service? No problem! The staff will call you a takeaway pizza and you will only be charged what the pizza company charge (giant 4 salami pizza with potato wedges will set you back around E13.50 and easily feed 2). Bought your own drink? No problem! The staff will provide you with glasses and an ice bucket, even though they

Be very careful
I had messed up our reservation and the hotel was VERY accomodating. Drinks on the terrace were really nice but there was rarely a bartender available. You had to go to the front desk and they would find the bellman - a very nice young Filipino man - who would then be the bartender for you. We bought our own wine, used their corkscrew - took glasses from the room. Easier and less expensive. Good location and nice breakfast. Front desk staff and bellman were nice. We had a car - parking was expensive but comparable to other hotels.Be very careful in the bathroom - the shower drain is in the middle of the floor so at least half the tile floor gets wet when someone takes a shower. I fell and fractured my shoulder. That is the one time the front desk was not very sympathetic. It will take 3 months to heal - not to mention the constant pain, the cost and the time for physical therapy. After the fall, I got extra towels and put them all over the floor when we took showers. It added a little traction to make the bathroom safer.
