1st Class.
Meet family staying at the farthings and its truely a 1st class hotel with fantastic service and a real passion for what they do. Everyone couldnt have been nicer even down to the gardener showing us the animals. Food was really great the home smoked meats and home made ice cream really stood out for myself and girlfriend. Now we found it cant wait to return

Best accidental choice ever.
My wife and I attended a wedding in Tavistock on Saturday 4th May. We were facing a 4 hour drive from Berkshire so decided to travel on the 3rd and stop over en route. Margo was on the computer and choose "Farthings" for our overnight stop. We were delighted to find the experience memorable, comfortable room overlooking village green. Beautifully kept property, inside and out, interesting and helpful staff. We were so impressed that we choose to eat in the restuarant, it turned into a totally superb meal - excellant wine and despite not having a sweet tooth, I ate my sweet with relish. Breakfast was also superb. Much of the evening meal and breakfast was home produce, when you visit allow time to tour the garden and see the hens etc etc. We will go again with no qualms whatsoever. A real and genuine experience and superb value for money.

Superb and sublime dining
I recently had to take my son back to University in Exeter and stopped on the way to have lunch and chose the Farthings for its proximity to the M5 and relaxing surroundings. I was delighted to be welcomed by the owner who proceeded to advise me personally on the choice of wine to go with my main course. The starter was almost too perfect to describe. The main was a succulent roast chicken - simple perhaps - but the best I have ever tasted served with new potatoes and a Greek-style salad flavoured with home-grown Mediterranean herbs. The English wine was the perfect accompaniment and all in all was a magnificent way to take a break.

Great food and good service
Returned to Farthings for a third time. As previously the service was charming, room comfortable and food excellent. We had the Bay room which is comfortable though has the unusual feature of being connected to its own en suite via a spiral staircase. A bit of a pain when you want to fill the kettle or dog bowl or even go for a pee in the night. However compensation is that it's big with an armchair and sofa in the bay window. Dinner was nicely balanced with some light options as well as the richer dishes. My scallops were great as was the rack of lamb. Portions were well controlled so you can manage a pud and get up from the table feeling full but not stuffed. The cooked breakfast was also excellent with good home cured bacon, a good sausage and a perfect poached egg. Overall it's hard to see what else you could ask for.

Wonderful place to stayl
My elderly mother and I have just stayed at Farthings Hotel for our 35th visit. During the 6 years that we have visiting, the service, under the leadership of owner John, has been consistently outstanding. Recently, the dietary requirements of my mother, now 96 years of age, have become more special, but Chef and John never tire of catering for her every requirement.If you are fond of animals, as my mother especially is, then the two resident dogs are a delight, both being very well behaved and enjoy the company of guests and the other resident animals in the garden ¿¿¿ Peafowl, Guinea Fowl, Geese, Ducks, Chickens etc., which provide many of the fresh items for the table.A truly wonderful place to stay, that we can thoroughly recommend.
