Wonderful budget hotel
This is a great hotel for those on a medium budget. The hotel sits on a busy road out of the city centre about 15 minutes walk from the nearest Metro station. It has Reasonable restaurant which serves a hearty breakfast too. There is a nice bar for the evening and they also have one computer with printing facilities. The room itself was smart, modern and clean. The staff are warm and friendly and happy to help with any questions. We did not walk to the Metro but hailed taxis via the front desk. A taxi to the colosseum cost us 18 euros (June 2013) good size car parkOnly down points would be lack of cooked choice for breakfast, but extensive European choices. The lift is small and antiquated which could be an issue if you are on the top floor (4) The road can be noisy if your room is on that side and you want the window openWe felt that for 68 euros a night we got more than our money's worth

Very nice hotel.
Stayed here for a week, the decor is nice and the place is spotless. Staff are polite and helpful, and very knowledgeable. The dining area on the fourth floor is pretty cool, it's an open rooftop with a gazebo-like covering and the food is lovely. We had both breakfast and dinner and both meals were nice, they did tasty pizzas too! Beds were comfy and there were extra pillows and blankets already in the room if required, as well as a mini fridge with water in etc. We were pleasantly surprised we didn't have to pay to use the safe. If you're a light sleeper might want to take some ear plugs as coaches are regularly pulling in during the night, and the cobbled paving makes the luggage trolleys very loud.Although it's not in the heart of the city it's very close by to the Metro as well other shops and restaurants, travelling into and out of the city was very easy. The only thing I could fault is the WiFi facility was not functioning the entire time we were there.

Great hotel and staff, no issues
I recently stayed in the ESH hotel in Rome for 3 nights. The Hotel is very clean and tidy, the staff very friendly and helpful as far as we needed them. the only downside is that we were not offered a bus ticket by one of the reception staff; in Rome you have to purchase a ticket before you get on the buses, other guests were offered a ticket and we ran into trouble as we had not been offered one, (this is worth noting if you are travelling to Rome). There is a fantastic barman who made us very welcome and made us smile, he would go out of his way to help us for anything. The hotel is a fair treck from central Rome, though that is probably reflected in the price, I was aware of this before booking so expected to have to travel a little to the centre. There is however a bus stop right outside the hotel entrance and it's a 15 minute ride into the centre of Rome. The restaurant was lovely, great food at a similar price to what you'd find in the restaurants in central Rome. The breakfast was great too with a good selection. Would definetely recommend this hotel

My first trip to Rome
Returned from Rome on 27th May.Can highly recommend this hotel.Food very good, room spacious and clean. The only downside is no tea making facilities in the room.We ate dinner in the hotel one evening and it was reasonably priced and very good.A birthday party was going on and when they left everyone in the restaurant was given a piece of the cake,a very nice surprise!Travel round Rome was easy ,the metro was cheap, clean and never full.If you have an early start before breakfast, ask at reception for a breakfast picnic,we had a trip to Pompeii and this was very appreciated, although the bus did stop for a coffee break after 1 and half hours.Would use this hotel again and recommend it to any one.

An enjoyable stay, but an average hotel.
We have just returned from a 4 night stay in Rome, we were attracted to the ESH because of positive reviews and of course, its much cheaper than Central Rome hotels. The main positive is the price, it is very cheap for what it is. Also the room was large and clean and the staff were friendly enough.Breakfast was good, a lot to choose from and definitely sets you up for the day.The negatives are:Our room (108) on the first floor was quite noisy, especially noise from the hotel bar in the evening. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and asked for an iron, we were told they don't have an iron to loan us, but they do have an ironing service. But not at the weekends, so we had to go out and buy a travel iron. They weren't as helpful as they could have been. The hotel is a bit out of Central Rome, but saying that its only about 4k from the Vatican. We didn't use the bus as it was quite packed each day, instead we used the Metro, Cornilia Station which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. From there it is about 20 minutes from Termini Station, the main transport hub in Rome (and also where your train from the airport will come in to). The walk to/from Cornilia from the hotel is a bit of a challenge, especially when you're returning from a long day exploring. The hotel is down a side road with a very narrow pathway, you can only walk in single file. If you have any mobility issues then this isn't the hotel for you (unless you try the bus which stops just outside the hotel).Rome is beautiful, we did a lot in 4 days, Rome, Naples, Pompeii. The area known as Trastevere in Rome has a lot going on, with nice places to eat, drink and chill out. We will return to Rome, there's so much more to see. However we wouldn't stays at the Esh again, as the extra cost for something more central will be worth the money.
