Not for fussy travellers.
I'm puzzled by the three star rating! Not up to standard. In my opinion ** would suffice!! However, The Nomandie is very well located in the quartier des musiciens, a short walk, even for the elderly, from the main railway station, the airport bus stop, the tramway, various bus routes and the shopping avenue Jean Medecin. It is also conveniently close to some good restaurants. Younger visitors could walk to the old town, the sea front,the flower market and the famous Promenade des Anglais, quite easily. On the positive side, the room was spotlessly clean and well valeted each day, at a time suited to us!! Free WiFi was most useful. BUT our room on the third floor, above the entrance, was cramped. There were 4 beds in total. Two together as twins, plus two extra. The sliding door on the built-in wardrobe was hanging off, and the door of the inadequate bathroom didn't shut properly, while the shutters were broken.If the neighbours are loud, the thin walls will offer NO protection, even to deaf ears!!!! Breakfast OK,if you like strong coffee!!Staff at reception pleasant and VERY helpful

Positives: very friendly and helpful staff. The best crossaints in the morning as well as great coffee. Right around the corner from the eurorail train station. A few blocks (3 min walk) from the best shopping street and then into old nice and surround. Basically excellent location. Affordable and clean. The only negative would be the beds are 2 twins put together so that could maybe be uncomfortable for some. Otherwise, if you are looking for a decent and affordable place to stay while spending bigger bucks elsewhere (shopping/dining) then stay here!

Okay location, that's it really
Positives: Free wifi in rooms, location is very handy for train station and tram, and it was in the back streets but felt safe enough to me despite the reviews below. Beds were comfy - no bed bugs as reported below. TV has at least one English-speaking channel, good old BBC Worldwide.Negatives: We were in a group of six, one of the rooms had new bedding etc and seemed quite nice, but the other two bedrooms were very dingy. My bathroom had been re-fitted, but it was so small I could barely sit on the loo as the shower cubicle was immediately in front of it! The rooms get very hot, unless you open the windows in which case it gets noisy. The worst bit was that the lift, the reception area (and the dining area - I won't call it a dining room) absolutely stink. I had paid for breakfast, but the smell put me off so much that I ended up going out instead. On no account pay the extra 8 euros for breakfast anyway - I literally got a croissant with a thumb print in it and a bread roll, with a shared jam jar on the table at the front of the room. There were a couple of cereals that looked like they had been sat in those dispensing tubes for month, and fruit salad that had come straight out of the tin. Literally the worst breakfast I have ever seen. Oh and I had forgotten my adaptor, but there were none available for borrowing in reception.Not recommended, unless you find a really really cheap deal and get it as "room only."

A NICE Surprise
Just spent five nights at Hotel Normandie, Nice. Booked single room given twin-bedded.All new, or very recent, bathroom, bedding, towels, curtains, TV etc.All very clean and perfectly situated for train station, airport bus, other bus/tram routes.Ethnically mixed, buzzy area but totally unthreatening and even though well off-season, unbelievably tranquil at night.Pleasant staff and very good value for a small room. Definitely recommended for travellers requiring an inexpensive and comfortable overnight bolthole!! Nick, Kent UK

Bed bug Hotel with an Attitude Problem
I was given room 410 but awoke the following morning having been bitten scores of times by bed bugs. The male receptionst seemed to regard this as entirely normal and although I was moved to a new room, (302) which seemed not be infested, the damage had been done. I am still in some discomfort and now have to take steps to prevent bringing any of them back in my clothes.On checking out, I asked for a refund. The same receptionist could not have cared less and casually offered me a refund for the bite-cream I had bought (and then only if I produced the receipt). I rejected this and told him I would be writing to the management.So - if you want a hotel which doesn't actually care if its vermin affect your stay, this is one for you.
