Great affordable hotel for sightseeing
We stayed in Hotel Aniene for 7 nights April 24-May 1,2013. When we arrived we found we had been upgraded to a room on the 2nd floor with a balcony. This was great to sit out on and relax in the evenings after a long day of sightseeing. The hotel's location is very convenient for using the metro. They are located on Viale Tirreno which is a couple of blocks away from the Conco D'Oro stop on Metro Line B (This is the same line to reach the Colosseum, and it is easy to reach Termini and switch to a Line A train for Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Vatican...). We got a little turned around because of road construction blocking the street signs when we first arrived but the metro empties out onto a corner and Viale Tirreno is one of the cross streets, so the location is very convenient. Breakfast was great and had a nice array of croissants, pastries, fruit, yogurt, breads for toasting, and even eggs and bacon/sausage for the Americans. The area is fairly quite at night and we were able to get some much needed sleep in between long days exploring this amazing city. The rooms were a decent size, we had a double with a wardrobe, desk, double bed, and standard bathroom (stand up shower, toilet, sink, and bidet). We did not utilize the fitness room as we walked so much on our trip, but it consisted of a treadmill and exercise bicycle. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay and would return again for another visit to Rome.

Great Hotel for a site seeing Break
Myself and 3 family memeber's stayed at this hotel for 4 nights from 28th April 2013 and I was pleasantly surprised, for anyone looking for a good hotel well situated, clean at a reasonable price this is for you!We arrived in the afternoon and checked into 2 rooms on the 2nd floor which were great! Rooms had a big balcony, very clean with a modern design - we went straight to the metro which is literally a 5 min walk max and you can get to every attraction!Very quiet residential area with great wee local restaurants and takeaways which we used regular as after a day of site seeing in the sun we did want to go back into the busy streets of Rome!Rooms were cleaned everyday and we got fresh towels everyday to! There was also a free safe in the room which was a great added touch!Breakfast was continental but perfect for us, fresh rolls, crossiants, meats, cheeses as well as eggs or bacon if you wanted it - a perfect light breakfast for the day ahead! Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good priced break, hotel staff were also great, helped us find metro, additional tours and even arranged transport to and from the airport!

Clean, comfortable and helpful staff
I wanted to leave a review of this hotel as I have read some quite bad reviews recently and wanted to share my positive experience last week.I went to Rome with my 11 year old son and was pleasantly surprised by the hotel. I suspect people like to moan but quite frankly, it was far cheaper than a lot of other hotels but that didn't affect the service we received. It's good points: Staff very helpful, spoke English well. The people on reception helped with directions, maps, and sorted out a taxi for us when our shuttle didn't turn up at 3am!The breakfasts were tasty and plenty of it- the bar area is small and does have plastic seats (as someone commented), but who cares?? There were delicious wholemeal croissants as well as fruit, yoghurts, cereals, pastries, cheeses, ham , scrambled eggs and bacon. It was standard Continental breakfast. Why do English people expect a full English in other countries? Lady who served was not the most smiley! The rooms were spotless and cleaned every day- maids friendly. Modern decor. Free wifi too. Yes, the area is not beautiful and it is the last stop on the metro, so not central, but again, a day ticket is 6 Euros , or one trip 1.50 and it takes half an hour to get to central Rome. I never felt unsafe in the area and metro fine. The hotel gave access to central Rome without the high costs. The metro stop is about 5 mins walk. The area did have some noise, but didn't stop us sleeping. Beds very comfortable too. Didn't use the gym, so can't comment on that.Would I go again? Definitely -yes.

Worth the effort
I took some time before we went to read through the Trip Advisor reviews, and to be honest arrived in Rome with some trepidation. So, the hotel. Let me preface this by stating that my wife and I, and my brother and his partner had booked this stay a few months ago, with the sole reason of being in Rome for the Six Nations, Italy Ireland game. Our flights and hotels were sorted by my brother, but a scheduled flights from Birmingham to Rome and the hotel for Thursday through to Monday nights inclusive, came to just ¿¿255 each. SO the unit cost per person per night was exceptional. The flights were fine, close to time, not bad given the awfully cold conditions, but cheap flights do generally mean a long walk to the furthest gate from security and on our return, actually walking from the aircraft to the terminal. That said.. the hotel. If you pay about ¿¿150 for five nights, you shouldn't expect it to be located on the most chic of city streets. Its not exactly Piccadilly, nor 5th Avenue, but it was ok. I didn't feel intimidated in any way. Not the prettiest of locality, but I wasn't paying for the view.We were (both couples) accommodated on the 4th floor in basic but clean rooms. A problem with the shower was sorted during our first day out and about, the bed again basic, but comfortable. The rooms were not large, but then I wasn't planning on hosting any champagne receptions, but they were big enough for us and our luggage, without feeling cramped - I've paid a lot more and had less (The Imperial Blackpool...). The breakfast again was in a compact room, but plenty of it. Don't expect a team of chefs to be attending to your every whim, but it's laid out clean and tidy, is tasty and plenty of it. It is a typical European breakfast with pastries, charcuterie, but also with bacon and scambled egg, toast, tea coffee yoghurts etc. Enjoyed by us all an no-one went hungry. The staff were without exception friendly and helpful with all the desk staff speaking acceptable to good english. My Italian is better than it was, but was poor to start with ;)All in all, you get a lot more than you pay for. The downside is the location, but that isn't the worst I've ever stayed in. There were plenty of local restaurants for evening meals, our choice was Taverne les Brigantes. Not cheap but excellent food and great attentive staff. Finally, wifi was free, annoyingly an hour at a time, but free nevertheless. All in all, I'd happily recommend the Hotel Aniene.

Good value hotel convenient for the metro
We stayed there for a week and would certainly stay there again. The hotel was not the easiest to find on arriving at night at the Conca d'Oro metro station due to major ongoing construction work around the station to extend the B1 line further. It was easy and cheap (E1.50) to get into the centre of Rome by the metro (15 minutes to the Coliseum). Our room (107) was on the small side, with limited space for clothes storage. The room was quiet, looking onto a wall, clean with mainly Italian TV channels but with a number of foreign news channels, including the BBC. Breakfast was buffet style with fresh rolls, pastries, cakes scrambled egg, bacon, sausages, cold meats, cheese, cereals and yoghurt etc. There are number of restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel, however, information on nearby restaurants given by hotel staff was poor. The best restaurant in our view was the Hostaria Menenio Agrippa an approx 5-10 minute walk left out of the hotel. The trattoria was very popular with the locals and at weekends you would have to arrive early (7.30pm) or book to get a table. The trattoria was slightly cheaper than the Taverna dei Brigante mentioned in other reviews eg. a litre of the house wine was 5 euros compared to 7 at the "Briganti". We felt the area around the hotel to be safe and had no qualms walking around at night. On one day there was a transport strike (no metro), however, we were still able to get into the centre of Rome by bus No. 60 or 90. You could also get to and from Ciampino airport cheaply - bus from airport to Anagnina metro (E1.20) then metro to Conca d' Oro changing at Termini (E1.50).
