We booked a last minute get away online flying British Airways and this hotel came up as a recommendation. It was a long way out of the city and took a long time to get from the airport to the city and then out to the hotel, but once we were there it was a lovely setting and had an adequate restaurant. However there is room service for pizza but it does not say that it will cost an additional 5 Euros.The walls are very thin and the noise travels from one room to the next and from one floor to another. I was woken each morning by the sound of people talking outside on the way to and from the gym and from the noise of the doors banging shut and people walking down the laminate floor hallway. My suggestion would be to take earplugs.Breakfast was fairly standard European breakfast ( all cold food) with little choice and not replenished quickly when dishes were empty, with extremely small cups so having a decent cup of tea was not an option. One morning we went to breakfast late but before closing time and there were no cups, not cheeses very little fruit and a limited number of pastries so very disappointed that day.The rooms were very clean and well appointed with all the facilities you require for a cheap get away.Enjoy!

We had a great stay at the Excel Montemario, very clean, staff helpful every time we needed them, The room was nice and quiet, perfect for a good rest! good breakfast, located in a very quiet and pleasant area with good transportation links to the centre and main attraction. It has all you can ask for a nice, relaxing, comfortable stay in Rome. In summary, very good value for money!

The hotel was great and the staff was very nice. The room, superior, was very nice and not expensive, It was very quite and I could sleep very well. My little daughter has great time in the middle of a park. The breakfast is not too much various but it is enough to start a nice day.

I have recently returned from a weeks stay at the Excel Montemario in Rome. As you would expect I read the reviews before I booked but went with an open mind. This hotel is a good 30 minutes from the Vatican which itself isn't in the centre of Rome, although you can walk to pretty much all the tourist attractions. The hotel is a short walk from the main road (where the bus stop is) although relatively easy to find, at night I think would be a struggle as the road that leads to the hotel is not lit. We discovered this returning late one evening and using our mobile phones as a torch! The room - we had a standard double room, it is not one of the rooms shown on the hotels website. In fact there are no pictures on the hotels own website of these rooms, which isn't surprising. Although clean the room was in dire need of upgrading. The 'double bed' was 2 singles pushed together. So by the time you were getting up both mattresses were hanging off the bed, that is if you hadnt fell down the space between the two mattresses during the night. The bathroom was ok, similar state of needing upgrading, the shower was okay providing you are slim. As the space to get in was very tight and not much room once you are inside. When we arrived we checked the safe was in working order. Only to find that it wasn't attached to anything, would've been very easy to pick it up and walk out of the room. Once the reception was contacted it was screwed to the wardrobe, which was also falling apart. The device where you insert your card for the electricity was also hanging out of the wall, making the a/c work intermittently. Again contacting reception for this to be fixed took 3 calls before someone finally arrived. The grounds in which the hotel itself is set are beautiful, however the hotel appear to be doing some work which started around 8am every morning, so constant banging & drilling.One of the reasons I choose this hotel over a more central one was the pool. So you can imagine our disappointment when we discovered that the pool was closed. We were not informed of this at check-in nor was this information available on the website.Breakfast - standard continental breakfast, selection of meats and cheese, stale bread, strange tasting milk and cereal. We only eat at the restaurant on one evening it was reasonably priced for food, drinks slightly over-priced the food was nice however. The hotel has a bar and restaurant, the times at which these are open is stupid. For example the bar and restaurant close at 330 in the afternoon so between 330 and 7 (when the restaurant opens up) you cannot get anything to eat or drink, not what you need after a long day sightseeing! We discovered 4 days into our holiday that there was a vending machine on the 3rd floor, information you think the hotel staff would have offered.In general the hotel staff were pretty helpful when asking for advice on bus routes and sights etc. There was one receptionist called Laura who I think is in the wrong profession, any time you asked her for anything it was like you had ruined her day. The hotel also states that it provides Wi-fi, don't rely on this as it only works in the lobby. I would recommend this hotel if you don't mind travelling for anything between 30-60 minutes on the cramped sweaty public bus - where you can rarely get a seat. If you like McDonalds, as there is one directly across the road.Three pieces of advice that I wish I had known, 1. The stop to get off for the hotel is at the Catholic University, there is a pretty big sign for it you can't miss it. 2. Don't ever buy a bus ticket, nobody ever checks wether you have one or not. Tickets should be bought prior to getting on the bus and then validated on the machine on the bus, I seen a handful of people doing this in a full week. 3. There is a city tax payable on check-out at 3¿¿¿pp per day, another nugget of information that the hotel forgot to mention at check-in. This is something you should bear

I stayed at Excel Roma Montemario with my parents for 3 days, last October. The hotel is a restoration of an old building I think, because when we were there, they were still doing some renovation. Overall, the hotel is alright if you are travelling on budget to Rome, but if you want easy access to Rome main attraction, this hotel might not be your first choice.Here are some of my opinion regarding Excel Roma Montemario:1. Location wise, it is a bit far from the city. We arrived in Rome by train and we took a taxi as we were not sure about the location of the hotel. We were a bit shock that the location is a bit further than we expected. We spent about 25 Euro for taxi from the Termini train station to the hotel. However, the good thing about it was the area where it located is very quiet and the air is fresh!2. The staff are very friendly. The gentleman at the front desk welcome us with fresh welcome drinks and quickly sort out the check in process. We were given a map which showed how to get to the main attraction in Rome. 3. The room is old, but clean. I had no trouble sleeping. But the bathroom is very small and old fashion. But overall it was alright.4. Breakfast was good with a lot of variation and they changed the menu everyday.5. Wi-fi was stable and fast.I would only recommend this to the backpackers with limited budget. But if you prefer to be closer to the city, you can book many other hotels that nearer to Rome.
