Great hotel. Friendly staff. Nicely sized rooms for NY standards.Some reviewers complained about street noise but we had a room (707) facing the back overlooking private gardens/terraces and did not hear a thing.Rooms are well arranged with nice details and higher end finishes.We did not try the restaurant (Rare) connected to the hotel. It looked overpriced and there are a lot of options a few blocks away on 3rd ave or either north or south on Lexington.We took cabs most of the time so the lack of a close by subway did not bother us but could be an issue for some.

Fantastic value for money, huge room. Within walking distance to many places especially Times Square. Best burger ever in the restaurant downstairs. Really friendly staff, full of soooo much knowledge. Cannot speak any higher of this place. Cannot wait to go back next year. Only minor issue we had was food from the mini bar had been used, I'm assuming from previous guest. It definitely wasn't us. But It was very cleverly hidden so the house keeper wouldn't have known without really close inspection. I opened the Pringles and they were 3 quarters gone. Called reception and they organised for the opened consumables to be replaced. This has not put me off returning especially with how the issue was dealt with

I booked this hotel using a bidding site, my first time ever so I was very nervous but am very pleased with the results. The location is excellent and convenient to almost everything. The staff are friendly and accomodating. The very large room had 2 comfortable beds and a nice bathroom with lights on dimmers. There was also a refrigerator to use (not a minibar) The earplugs in the bedside table were a nice touch, but honeslty the room was very quite. I would stay here again without question.The only negative is the air conditioner it had s strong mildew smell coming from it at times.

The Shelburne was formerly the Murray Hill. For an older hotel the management have done a good job tidying up the rooms. The bathrooms are spacious and everything is available in the room. In terms of location this is a really interesting area close to restaurants and bars yet away from some of the perhaps seamier sides of New York. there is a bar/restaurant attached to the hotel which is welcoming and good place to unwind. this is an interesting choice pretty close to many of the main amenities which I would recommend.

My boyfriend and I recently stayed here for 7 nights as part of a 2 week US trip from Australia.I booked this hotel 6+ months in advance and got it at a fantastic (cancellable) rate. We stayed in a studio deluxe room with a kitchenette which came in very handy for storing snacks and water. The room was spacious but the bathroom was quite small. It wouldn't stop me from staying again but it's something to be aware of - eg. there was no space for toiletries or make up storage.Staff were great, all friendly and professional.The location is fantastic. Out of the hustle and bustle but still only 10-15mins to 42nd St/Grand Central, 5th Ave/Empire State Building and Madison Square Park, 20mins to Herald Square/Macy's and there are plenty of food and drink options close by. Scotty's Diner and Bloom on Lexington Ave and Daniel's Bagels around the corner on 3rd Ave are all great breakfast options.The only negatives I have are the in-room charges for wifi (but you can use free wifi in the lobby) and that there is nothing on the actual hotel website about the rooftop bar being temporarily closed. I read about it being closed on Tripadvisor and after emailing the hotel to confirm this, I received an apologetic response with a promise of a "free gift"...which never eventuated and no one at the front desk was aware of it.Overall, I would happily stay here again and will recommend it to others visiting NYC.
