Need to replace front desk clerks
We stayed here before and after our Mediterranean cruise. The food for breakfast was poor to average, our second room was better than our first, but the female front desk clerks were terrible. I don't know if it was because we were a group of four females or what the problem was, but the two women who worked the desk were barely civil and definitely not nice. The gentleman from Cuba who was at the front desk a couple of mornings was very nice and extremely helpful. I would recommend him but I would get rid of the women. One of them was Griselda. All I could think every time I dealt with her was that old Monkees' song, "Auntie Griselda.""...I know she's having a fit, she doesn't like me a bit...!" It is handy to have a grocery store next door since the rooms have kitchenettes, but you could definitely get a lot closer to the action than this place. If I knew before booking the place what I know now, I would book something close to Placa de Catalunya, since that is the epicenter of the city. The subway is there, the hop on, hop off buses are there, the regular city buses are there, the Hard Rock Cafe is there. We had to walk to the square everyday or take the subway, since everything started at Placa de Catalunya, so I would just get a place close to there.

Second visit and still great choice!
I stayed at the Aparthotel Atenea about 10 years ago and decided to stay there again for a four day trip after Easter. We were delighted that we were actually up-graded to larger room for the stay. The standard of the room was high, very clean with a useful kitchenette. However I have to say that the smaller room I stayed in many years ago was perfectly fine too. Don't let the location put you off staying here. It is really easy to get to all the sights using the metro (nearest one is Les Corts). There is a very handy large department store behind the hotel with a large supermarket in the basement, so you can stock up on Cava and Spanish foodie treats. Our (reasonable) deal didn't include breakfast. To be honest it was nice being able to do this in the hotel room, although I recall the buffet was good on our previous stay.The staff were delightful, helpful and friendly. I really should have given the hotel 5 stars, but unfortunately we had a gang of French football supporters staying in the rooms next door (as the football stadium is nearby). They were pretty noisy and kept us awake in the early hours. (Thankfully their team didn't win or it might have been worse!) Apart from that I would congratulate the hotel for keeping their standards up over the years! Recommended!

GREAT HOTEL, WOULD STAY AGAIN
We wanted an apartment with easy tube links to the city centre, not too near the busy tourist spots but not too far either. The green line (L3) tube is 5 min walk away from the apartment, and this is the line that connects with Las Ramblas, for example.The staff were exceptionally helpful and kind...humoured our attempts to speak Spanish, but had excellent English skills to hand when needed! They supplied stamps for our postcards & ordered a taxi for us which arrived promptly for our 3am departure!! Having a 24 hr reception desk is so useful & it means you can always get assistance should you need it.The rooms themselves were large and comfortable, fully serviced daily, with free WiFi which was great. The little kitchenette was perfect for making teas/coffees etc during the day. We didnt try the hotel restaurant but tried lots of cafes near the hotel which sell delicious pastries & freshly baked bread!I would definitely stay here again!

A REAL GOOD CHOICE !!
It has been a real good choice. In a very beautiful area of Barcelona, 1min walk to the green subway station (with 2 euros you can be directly in BCN center , ramblas.. port) Room very comfortable with an extra King size bedroom and a very usefull kitchen area (with Nespresso coffee machine). Not used the restaurant even if pricing was not so expensive for a 4 star hotel.(around 30 euros)The cityhotel site for booking let you choose a lot of Extras on your choice (i.e. parking , Cavas , extra time for check out..)NOTE: with advanced booking can have a very good rate !I will be back in this Hotel if needed to come back to Barcelona.Been there in FEBRUARY 2013.
