An interesting first stay: but would certainly stay here again.
A very smart early 1900's building with lots of space around it... greenery too. Really interesting aerial and historic photographs adorn the corridor walls showing it's former use: the Aerodrome Hotel serving Croydon pre-1960s.There's lots of space for parking, a pleasant modern reception area with efficient and friendly staff. Indeed, all the staff from reception, the bar, the restaurant and house-keeping were smiling, friendly and helpful at all times. We had requested a quiet room and this was provided on arrival, a first floor room at the back, toward the end of the corridor. There was some late-night disturbance from inconsiderate drivers' noisy cars tearing up the road, but this was short-lived. In all, a very clean and fresh room, fairly well equipped with iron, ironing board, trouser press, tea and coffee facilities with lovely biscuits (but no room rubbish bin) and an extremely comfortable bed. Adjoining was a fully equipped en-suite bathroom (with bin)... except the plugs! The bath had a low-profile chrome plug with no chain (little chance of removing it from the plug-hole once the bath was full). The basin had a plug and chain (without anywhere to which to attach the chain) and a 'hole' drain with no mesh to stop items going down the plug-hole! A previous guest's toiletries' plastic lid had done just that, restricting the waste flow. Also, we noted that the toilet seat hinge was broken on one side. It sounds disastrous, but we reported these problems to reception and they were rectified promptly. Both the bath and shower had excellent water pressure, hot and cold!Breakfast was between 07:00 and 10:00, a really nice buffet serving all one would need. The buffet bar was kept well provisioned, everything fresh, even on our first morning when we rolled down at 09:45 it was like new. The only small criticism is vacuum flask tea... although tea bags and hot water are also provided, real 'boiling water' (not another flask) would be a great improvement. That notwithstanding, the variety on the buffet is very good and there are staff on hand if you want to order any alternatives, eg, porridge, kippers, poached-eggs, etc.The restaurant was very quiet. Nevertheless, we enjoyed one evening meal which was tasty and well presented. Surprisingly, the delicious beef stew and herb dumpling came with no vegetables, although a supplementary platter was provided extremely quickly on asking. We felt the menu was quite limited, particularly the desserts. Our second night was, sadly, not quiet at all! Indeed, I have never stayed in such a noisy room. A 40th Birthday party had its disco speakers immediately below our room which literally shook the room: the radiator was rattling on its brackets in sympathy with the beat of the music! This was a serious oversight by the reception... although our room was 'quiet' the first night, there had been no thought to the subsequent night when this party was pre-booked and undoubtedly, we bore the brunt of their music until they finished (very promptly) at 1 a.m. This was completely unacceptable and the hotel management acknowledged it as such. I believe that they were genuinely sorry for their serious oversight and I am sure that if future guests ask for a quiet room, the booking clerk will look a little further than the first night. In summary:- it's a nice hotel, spotlessly clean, the staff are eager to please, it's reasonably priced and I would have no hesitation in booking here again. I would, however, double check that they didn't have a noisy party, and if they did, I would require a 2nd or 3rd floor room which I am sure would be well insulated in this solid old building which has been so sensitively modernised.

Would stay again
I stayed here for 3 nights and I have to say the hotel was lovely, reception welcoming, bar area nice and clean and room was at the same standard. The only thing that let the hotel down was the threadbare stairs carpet. Just a little point. On two occasions I ordered lunch in the hotel both times was really nice. On my last night I ordered food, that was an experience the waitress clearly needs further training - not her fault but needs to know the menu and what food is out of stock and then we poured our own wine. Just a few little issues but don't let those put you off the belly pork was so nice. Really good stay and would go back without a question.

Hotel Good, Food Disappointing
From the start...easy to find with ample parking. Hotel is on a main road but has good sound insulation. Check in was efficient but lacked personality. Room was of a good size and well equipped. Bathroom was clean and again well equipped.Dinner in the evening was a huge disappointment. A terrine with a quinel of pate was missing the pate....slow roast shoulder of lamb wasn't. It was nuked in a microwave and was served cold and tough. I asked for another, they obliged with no hesitattion. The replacement was warm and tougher than a cobblers thumb. Nobody asked if it was okay, I don't think anyone cared. Breakfast buffet was plentiful but again luke warm at best.Would I stay again.....yes but I'd eat out next time.

our stay was a series of nightmares
we stayed at this hotel for 1 night ( april 4-5) as a birthday hotel break for my husband! we wanted to use their health and spa a few hours after our arrival and we were directed by the manager to LA Fitness which he said was 10 mins walk, around 500 yard walk ..I then asked the directions by driving and he gave us very obscure directions, asked for the nearest pharmacy and he didn't seemed to know. We drove down to the L.A. Fitness and couldn't find the vehicle entrance. We came back to the hotel and asked the same manager for the directions and opted to walk... ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE L. A FITNESS closes at 4 PM on saturday which their website did not state.. The MANAGER should have told us about this.. When we confronted him, he apologized and said he made a mistake and offered some complimentary drinks to compensate the inconvenience...We had our dinner and my medium steak that ordered turned out to be more RARE so i had to send it back and when we ordered our dessert it took the restaurant staff 45 mins to deliver our order because they were busy for special functions.. In the evening , we were awakened by the barks of the dog coming from nearby room. in the morning when we checked out, i find that we were billed with the complimentary drinks that the manager promised us. So i had to remind them that it was supposed to be free and a compensation for their mistake which the receptionist rectified ..We will never use this hotel ever again and will never recommend it to our friends and family!

Lovely little weekend getaway :-)
Just got back from a 2 nights stay at the Hallmark hotel, lovely greeting when I arrived at reception was shown my room but after around 10 mins in the room there was alot of noise from a generator on the outside of the hotel I simply rang reception and they moved me straight away to a gorgeous room was very clean and spaceious :-) had a lovely meal in the hotel on the Friday nite service was fab. On the sat evening myself and my partner decided to eat out when we returned we had a drink at the hotel bar where we met a lovely barmaid called Max, he made us feel really welcome and at home, he was extremely friendly and made us laugh would most defiantly come back and stay at this hotel if not just to see Max he made our weekend :-)) Booking under Harrower room 66A
