Great location- even better service!
I have just returned from a hen weekend in Brighton staying at the ship, as reported the hotel rooms are a little dated but outside of this I enjoyed a 5* experience. The main areas of the hotel are modern and comfortable and if you are lucky enough to have the sun out the terrace is great for people watching with a fab view. 9 of us ate in the restaurant on the first night as the meal on the first night was included in the price, because of this we didn't expect much but you could enjoy 3 courses from the a la carte menu and the food was excellent. Even though we were late sitting down and guiltily had messed the restaurant around a bit the service was quick and first rate, James the waiter couldn't do enough for us, he kept us entertained throughout the night and actually made our evening. Truly first class service, this continued by the reception staff who went to great lengths to help me set up my laptop for a video surprise for the hen- nothing was too much trouble. On an evening after returning home from Brighton's night spots we were greeted by the door staff who were also friendly and helpful. In a morning the breakfast was also very good, full range of hot and cold items, no long queues and personal orders of poach eggs etc were all accomodated, we even ate outside in the sunshine. The location of this hotel was first class within easy reach of everything, as a result the parking is expensive but because I knew that this is always true of Brighton we booked in advanced and managed to get secure parking within a mile of the hotel for ¿¿14 a night not bad at all. A fantastic weekend that will definitely be remembered. Thankyou to all the staff that quite clearly work very hard.

WHAT A WASTE OF MY WELL EARNED MONEY

Great breakfast
We stayed at the Old Ship hotel for 2 nights. Our room was spacious enough, and clean. We didn¿¿t mind the shabby chic feel at all, but had to have the sink fixed as it didn¿¿t drain. The plumber was friendly though, and took no time fixing it. There was quite a bit of noise during the night from the streets below, but we managed to sleep quite well nevertheless. The best bit was the breakfast! The breakfast host was extremely friendly, there were lots of fresh fruit available, and it was lovely to have breakfast watching the sea.

Like Benidorm on a bad night
Because of health reasons this was an important little break for both myself and my aged sister. Just five nights, sea view room, five good meals and, above all, a good rest and lots of sleep in the fresh sea air. Most of it worked to perfection with five days of absolutely superb sunny weather, five good meals and, it has to be said, a very nice hotel just about to go through refurbishment. The rooms were perfect (if a little threadbare), on the second floor, overlooking the sea while the staff at the hotel were a delight, very helpful, very friendly. The trouble came not from the hotel but from a seashore bar, incredibly granted a 24 hour licence and made full use of by the city's young students. The noise was enough to wake me every night but climaxed on Tuesday until 3.300am and then on Thursday when it started at midnight and carried on until past 4am. It was so bad I got out of bed to see exactly what was going on. Fighting and other pastimes, best suited to the bedroom, and the noise, wow, the noise. The hotel and their security staff were unable to do anything at all about it even though the fighting was right outside the front door in the middle of a busy road. Police? I saw none. The mayhem was allowed to run its course along with another sleepless night. Shame because I liked the hotel and its position and would like to return after the double glazing has been given the go ahead by the local council - the very same people who granted the bar from hell the 24 hour licence!

Decent, clean Hotel
I stayed in the hotel from 2-6 June and I cannot complain. The price could have been lower, but the service is good. There were some refurbrishments going on and at the night it sometime get loudy. Rooms have a great sea view. I have not had much contact with staff except with one housekeeper, named Manka? Who cleaned my room fast and efficiently, while I was still in. I have never seen anything like that before, although due to nature of my business I travel a lot.The only thing that lowers my overall experience was the noise. There also is an issue with parking.
