So far disappointing is the very best that I can say.
4stars??? Not even close. The room is shoddy. Will add the pics of the multiple chips and stains, the hanging blind, etc.later. Looks as though it hasn t been painted since the 70s. Too late for me now but please take heed and steer well away. .Just to be fair staff is fine.

Tryp Gran Sol Alicante
Just spent a week at this hotel. Have to admit I was really worried after reading the reviews prior to our visit. We booked a premium room which was light, spacious, clean and had fabulous views. The room was serviced daily and the linen changed on alternate days. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, both in reception and in the restaurant. We have stayed in hotels all over the world, so we are able to compare. The location is perfect for the beach, the marina and the city. There is no getting away from the fact that the hotel is tired, but as for all other aspects, no complaints whatsoever. People should remember that we get what we pay for, and location, in this case, is key.

Not 4*, a very poorly run hotel in a good location!
I can only echo the other contributions as this hotel is the pits! It¿¿¿s tragic; it could not be in a better location! It¿¿¿s in one of the best cities in Spain it¿¿¿s by a marina a beach a city shops and restaurants. I hope Tryp/Melia management read these reviews and go to the hotel and retrain the staff. There was an old Spanish guy on reception who was surly rude and officious. Has he not noticed the unemployment situation in Spain, I am sure there are 1000 people who would love his job. This hotel must be avoided; there are 20 others within a short distance that are much better.

4 STAR!!! I would not send a dog... its aweful!
You cannot miss this hotel on the skyline as it towers above Alicante. We stay in Alicante about 4 times a year and in fact used to live there. When we were booking our wedding anniversary trip I wanted something central and this came up at what looked a fair price. I now know why it is cheap but I cannot understand why it has 4 stars, at best it is 1 maybe 2 if you were generous!The problem is I think it was built way back when and has never been modernised. An example is one of those old fashioned ¿¿¿through the wall¿¿¿ air conditioning units; you see them in the movies when someone stays at an old motel. Everything is patched up and just worn out.Good things¿¿¿. Well we had a ¿¿¿20 room credit and I had lunch from room service that was good, it is so central you are on the marina the beach the old town and the Rambla.Bad things¿¿¿ shabby rooms (and not in a good way), no room clean during our stay, very noisy hotel due to it being a perfect location for the bars and clubs of the old town, so between 4-6am all the party animals return so don¿¿¿t expect a night¿¿¿s sleep.This is a TRYP hotel and part of the Melia group, the Melia hotel where we normally stay is the same star rating, 500 yards away but a world apart.Alicante is an amazing city and is worthy of a visit but in the name of all that is right and holy ¿¿¿DO NOT STAY HERE!!!¿¿¿

Shabby room but great views.
This hotel has a superb view of the Harbourfront if you pay the extra few euros to get a sea view room. That, plus the good buffet breakfast and good location however, cannot make up for the fact that the rooms are shabby, scuffed and very worn appearing. How it ever earns its four star rating is a mystery. We had a corner room on the 18th floor so a wonderful view. Bathroom appeared to have been modernized but the bedroom and tiny separate living room had outdated, worn, faded furniture; generally the room needed major updating. Only Spanish language TV channels and very thin walls between rooms. Heard much from neighbouring room. We had stayed and enjoyed the TRYP Hotel in Valencia and currently are staying in the TRYP Macarena in Seville and both are lovely and very good value for the cost. The TRYP Grand Sol seems the weak link in the chain... Pun intended! (Many good restaurants are nearby.)
