Early birthday treat fantastic from start to finish
Just back from an overnight stay at the Grand Central hotel with my mum as an early 21st birthday treat which was fantastic from start to finish. The female receptionist could not have been nicer throughout our whole stay, as soon as we walked in the door she was so welcoming and was able to find us an available room with no trouble even though we had arrived much earlier than check-in as we were going to the afternoon performance of Hairspray. The hotel had two weddings that day, oh my what a stunning location! I felt like Thumbelina as the hotel was so big, the space and height of our room was overwhelming, d¿¿cor and furniture in both our room and the whole hotel beautiful, topped off by the amazing chandeliers. We are not hard to please, as long as rooms are clean and beds are comfortable we are happy and this hotel definitely ticked both those boxes. We made sure to stop in at Champagne Central to sample the cocktails, definitely recommend the raspberry cooler, delicious & refreshing! I could go on and on and on but will finish by saying we were made to feel extremely welcome and valued by all staff in the hotel which was very much appreciated and you should all be so proud of the work you put in! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning in the near future.

Inside the train station...
We were looking for a location close to the train and this cannot be beat with a beautiful entrance located within the station. The twin room was large with plenty of room to spread out gear as we readied ourselves to start the West Highland Way in the morning. Concierge was very helpful so I could pack as much Charles Rennie Mackintosh into the one night we had in town as possible.

AMAZING suite!!!
Booked an Itison voucher deal for a one night stay in a suite with wine and chocolates etc. Generally, I feel a bit like a second class citizen when I go with a voucher, however this is not the case with the Grand Central...we were treated like royalty from beginning to end!I had requested the JFK suite and I got it. Check in only took 5 mins and we were up in our AMAZING suite quickly. It is HUGE, elegant and beautifully decorated. Beautiful, clean bathroom with a massive tub. Sitting room has the comfiest sofa ever and the bed was really comfy. Beautiful sweets -macaroons and chocolate dipped strawberries etc in the room with a bottle of red -perfect!! We loved the fact that they still give you the slippers and robes even though we were there on a deal.The staff at the front desk and champagne central were outstanding. I have to say that it was very noisy until very late at night (shouting etc outside till 3am!) We were only on the 1st floor facing Gordon Street, so that is why. I guess there isn't much you could do about this. It was quiet in the morning though.Breakfast was ok with all the usual things. Not sure about the big pots of coffee on the table - ours was stone cold, though they did replace it quickly on request. I think it would be better to just get you it when you order it.Checkout was the quickest I have ever experienced. They had a large wedding party checking out - so they put extra staff on.All in all an amazing experience and I would go back in a heartbeat!

Not quite there . .
The hotel didn't live up to expectations perceived from its website . . It gave the impression of a 1st Class 4 Star Hotel . . similar to what you would find in London or Manchester but fell far short in real life. The rooms are big with spacious bathrooms (age of building lends itself to this) and the refurbishment has been done to an excellent standard aesthetically . . But this is spoilt by those smaller things which make the difference. Dirty mirrors at the side of the bed and dusty lampshades etc. are unacceptable for starters ! The original heating (radiators) has been retained after a massive refurbishment and 'eventually' worked quite well . . But with such a big room it took a long while to heat up with just one small radiator ? Also, I was a bit disappointed with a 32" TV in a room which was approx 20 feet by 12 feet . . especially when it had just standard Free-view channels only . . With no additional Entertainment, or Hotel Menu System with information to help improve your stay . . This is 'budget hotel' level expectations in my opinion. The Portuguese Barman (forget his name) was a credit to the hotel . . He made me feel welcome and smiled and chatted for a while even though he was busy throughout. Breakfast is only served till 9.30am which for a major city who caters for tourists and not just business people is also a bit poor . . I would expect a 10.00am finish at the earliest . . But maybe I am just spoiled by the more forward thinking cities ? My overall opinion is not a bad one . . But just a disappointed one . . Maybe there should be a few levels of '4Star' to help customers understand the differences ?
