Wonderful location and great breakfast
Very clean hotel with good rooms 2 blocks from the castle and old town. Nice view of the city and sea from restaurant on top floor. Very complete breakfast included - lots of food to choose from. Good service. Carpets a little warn but otherwise in good condition. All 3 elevators worked. Free wifi in lobby (reached my room). Space downstairs for conferences. Excellent restaurant around the corner (La Bul).

Worked for me
I stayed at this hotel in April 2013, during a 4 day business trip. I was allocated room 718, a junior suite on the top floor of the hotel. Although I had paid for a junior suite, my top floor position was a result of an actioned request.The room was spacious and up to date, with a LED 40¿¿¿ TV, tea and coffee, mini bar etc. The marble bathroom was also of a good size and came with the necessary toiletries. All the little touches were in place from the independent suit hanger to the complimentary biscuits and wine.The often-mentioned omission was the wifi availability in the room. You could pay extra for a LAN cable connection or go to the lobby for free wifi. Not ideal and a definite point for the hotel to consider.The hotels location was ideal for my purposes, but should you want to use the hotel for holiday purposes I would say it was equally well connected to a local cafe culture. Bars and restaurants all around. It is also situated in easy walking distance to the historic and cultural centre.I ate in both the ground floor breakfast restaurant and the 7th floor al a carte venue. Breakfast was of a continental nature, augmented by scrambled egg and European type bacon (I¿¿¿m sure you know that this is not as good as British bacon). I would say it was mainly above an average standard but where they excelled was in the coffee department. Typically strong Italian coffee definitely spoke my morning language. The top floor restaurant was ok, but I ate better at local venues. The price was improved by the 25% off offer given with every room, but once was enough.I drove from Naples airport (Avis hire car) to Bari, 159 miles, 18 euro toll costs in each direction. The hotel offers guests parking in their underground garage for 20 euro per 24hr period. Entry into the garage is not for the nervous. You find the entrance to the car park around the corner from the main hotel entrance, the a very steep ramp takes you into a tight underground space, but a member of staff will park your car (and shuffle it around to release vehicles as needed). I found no issues with this service and the excellent skills of the garage guy. I¿¿¿m sure that should you find the ramp too much to handle he will deal with the whole issue for you.The hotel is equipped for meeting and conferences, some were on whilst I was at the hotel, obviously increasing the busy nature of the venue. Over my four days it seemed that the staff could easily handle this situation and I did not experience any adverse issues.In conclusion, not the cheapest but 718 worked for me.

Classic grandeur
How relaxing our weekend to Bari was can be translated in a very long hmmmmmmmmmm. Although you¿¿¿re in the southern tip of Italy and crisis is supposed to have hit, the people are still very friendly and positive, and the best example of all was the receptionist of the Palace hotel, Mimma, who by the way spoke the best English I¿¿¿ve heard in Italy so far. The hotel itself is great and classic, the room very nice, the breakfast might have offered a bit more variety of things to put on the bread but overall truly recommendable. In the centre, close to everything, offers a good map of the city (which the Puglia tourism office did not when I wrote to them beforehand), has excellent service personnel, a view of the sea if you ask for the right room (I had 703), and overall a very relaxing stay. Go to Bari, the people are nice, the food is fantastic, the beach not too crowded and the fish they sell is super fresh.

A pleasant experience at a hotel recommended by local staff
The hotel is very well located, within a very short walking distance of many of the old city centre attractions. That means that food can be both plentiful and inexpensive by trying local restaurants. I found the breakfast to be the best I've seen in Italy, and really appreciated the restaurant staff's contribution to a good morning's breakfast experience. The first room I was given had an issue with the veranda door lock, which was resolved, but they let me move to a higher level room. That room had the midday sun, meaning that it was a wee bit warmer than I am used to (25C), but the room location (internal not street view) allowed me to sleep with the windows open. And yes, I got a good night's sleep (even if the doves were a little noisy after the sun came up)Again, I don't recognize my stay (the room was dated, but well-appointed and the breakfast room was clean and stylish) in some of the other reviews, but I will agree with the ventilation issue (even though it is common throughout Europe). The AC option is seasonal as it seems to be a shared system (either heat or cool, not both). Unlike many other hotels, we could follow English language news (BBC and CNN), but as has been noted, the internet solution is clumsy and doesn't seem to support iOS or Android hand-helds. All-in-all this was a pleasant experience at a hotel recommended by local staff. Just remember to check your room placement if you need a cool room.

Unexpected delight
I attended a trade mission in November of 2010. We were accommodated at the Hotel Palace in Bari.I was initially given a tiny room, but after I spoke with the front desk I was moved to a lovely room on a higher floor. The staff was gracious and accommodating, and the food was great.I was there for 6 nights. By the 2nd day the hostess in the breakfast room knew I drank cappuccino and had it brought to me as I sat down, and breakfast had anything you could want. The location is great, not far from the town center and shopping, pretty much walking distance to restaurants and the nightlife .We had great pizza just down the street and late night snacks.The biggest issue was the internet , although the hotel claims to be wireless the only reception I could get was in the lobby, which was a bit of an issue when I wanted to skype home.All in all I am looking forward to a return trip to Bari and I will stay at the Hotel Palace again.
