OK for a short stay - but could be cosier
Stayed for 2 nights on a business trip and this hotel served my objectives well. It's centrally located in front of the Central Train Station in Leiden and within walking distance of shopping and dining areas. The hotel doesn't offer many amenities, although internet access is free everywhere and with good speed and reliability, as is the rule in most places in the Netherlands. Breakfast was also good, offering fresh and varied options to start the day with energy to face the cold outside. However, I got the idea that the hotel would benefit greatly from some refurbishing, as the Golden Tulip next door seemed more cosy - and both the restaurant and the lobby/reception areas are shared. The room was OK, small but clean and with a comfortable bed, standing on a very quiet spot with the window to the back side of the building, though without mini-bar - but a vending machine is available on the 4th floor instead.

Rooms are ok, other hotel amenities and location are quite good
I spent 4 nights at the Tulip Inn while visiting Leiden for business. There are actually two hotels served by the same lobby and other amenities: the fancier Golden Tulip and the more basic Tulip Inn. I had been told that I was staying at the Golden Tulip, but this was inaccurate, as I learned when I checked in. My room was of a good size for a European hotel, and it was clean enough, but it was nothing to write home about and felt somewhat worn. The bed was on the soft side, but certainly sleepable. The shower was on the small side, but quite good in other respects. The in-room wifi is free and reliable, something that matters a lot to me. The breakfast area is shared with the Golden Tulip, and the spread is good. I ate at the restaurant in the hotel one evening, and it was surprisingly fancy. The hotel does hot have its own fitness room, but it does (mostly) better than that by offering free access to the SportCity fitness center one block away, which has many more amenities than a hotel would normally offer. (Only drawback was that it doesn't open until 8:30am in the morning, which is surprising for Americans who are accustomed to working out at dreadfully early hours of the morning.) The hotel's location is quite convenient, just a couple of hundred yards from Leiden's central station, which will get you to Schiphol airport in barely 20 minutes. I was not wowed by the Tulip, mostly because of the so-so rooms, but it had many features to recommend it.

Nice
This hotel has a great location in the city centre and next to the train station however perhaps could do with some modernisation in the rooms.I stayed here for a week for work and although I would find it difficult to complain about anything particular, I didn't come away feeling "Wowed" by the experience. The reception, restaurant and bar staff were very friendly and attentive, the restaurant had a great evening meal offer (cheaper than a lot of restaurants in town) and the one time I ate there I was very impressed with the quality of the meal.Leiden is a very fast paced university town with a huge variety of places to eat or drink. I was looking for something indigenous with the country however here I lucked out as all I could find was a McDonalds, a wealth of Bistros, a couple of Argentinian places, a couple of Indian restaurants and some very pricey Chinese eating places. I would recommend the Tulip Inn for people travelling on business as it is in the heart of things and the links to public transprt and Schipol are great however I would warn anyone going there to watch out for the thousands of cyclists as they are crazy!

It's OK
This is a decent hotel very close to the central station of Leiden. Rooms are quite small but clean. Wireless in the rooms is very slow. In our room there was an old fashioned and very small TV with a good selection of channels. Quite overprized for what they offer (up to 90 euro per night, breakfast not included). Recommended if you need to stay next to the central station of Leiden (note: Leiden is a very beautiful town, it is a pity that the streets are so dirty).

Great location, very nice city
The Tulip Inn is the less expensive hotel side, sharing the lobby & breakfast buffet with its Golden Tulip cousin. So the rooms are less roomy. And IF you eat breakfast there (it is a great buffet), it will cost you ¿¿¿16.pp, adding about 30% to your total bill. Easier is to walk around the corner to some of the nice caf¿¿s heading into town. My wife and I spent three nights there for a conference, and this place is easiest to reach by bus or just walking -- especially if you take the train to town. The Tulip hotels also have a parking lot behind them, so one can even drive. But not worth it due to the very heavily used Autobahns in NL. The reception personnel were all very friendly and speak several languages. You can drop your bags in the baggage room all day after you check out but before your train leaves, free of charge. And best to ask them for bus and train schedules, since these are hard to find in the Central Station. Nice modern shower/toilet, everything was quite clean and well taken care of. Their TV system makes you dial through several pay-for-view choices before you can see several international channels, which are free of charge. All in all a decent place with a can't be beat location. And the price was good, too, about ¿¿¿110/night for two.
