Good location
The location was excellent, very close to Dam Square, Royal Palace and just a short walk to picturesque Jordaan area. The room we had was a twin (practically two beds crammed together), quite small and the decor was a bit dull. The size of the room did not really matter, since we we out most of the time. The only complaint was that while taking the shower the water temperature kept changing from boiling hot to ice cold :-). The staff was efficient and friendly enough. If you need just a place to sleep in, then I would recommend this hotel.

Hotel continues to make improvements and it shows
Hotel location is very good being very close to Dam Square and the Royal Palace. Hotel staff were also very friendly. I have stayed at this hotel previously and noticed a big improvement to the standard of the room I was offered, which was nicely decorated and included a mini fridge. The bathroom was clean and the bed was also very comfortable. In summary I would go back.

Nice but not special
This hotel looks beautiful from the outside and i will say the location is perfect for access to the centre. However, we booked a business suite as a special treat and the decor was very tired and it had a musty smell and was very stuffy even with aircon (room 605-palace suite). They have replaced the bed and it is a new bathroom/toilet but for a suite, it had no mini bar/fridge and the tea/coffee facilites were minimal.The receptionist sent us the wrong way for a restaurant so i'd do your own navigation.One of the staff was helpful when my purse was stolen on a tram - my bag was zipped up so please be aware this is a much bigger problem in Amsterdam than they'd have you believe, so be security conscious at all times.Truthfully, the location was the best bit about this hotel and i don't think we'd stay again if we came back to Amsterdam. Perhaps if they had a major refurb inside.

The perfect place to stay!
This hotel is fabulous! Perfectly located one road away from the main Dam Square which is very busy and noisey. The hotel is literally 1 minutes walk to Dam Square. It is immediately behind the Royal Palace and is conveniently located for everything, restaurants, bars, night life, buses, trams, etc., yet in a quieter location for some escape when your day is done!Staff are extremely polite and helpful. Nothing seems to be a problem. Pretty much anything you want, they will try and arrange.This is the cleanest hotel I think I have ever stayed in! The cleaners need a medal! Spotless every day.Breakfast is the classic variety to suit most European tastes and vegetarians. There is something for everyone. They can only cater for limited options but what is available is healthy and good quality.I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Great Staff, Great Restaurant, but Horrible Room
If you didn't have to use your hotel room this would be a great hotel. The desk staff was very cordial and very helpful, the restaurant and bar were both terrific, and the location couldn't be better - across the street from the Palace and Dam Square. The room on the other hand was, well, worthless. It was approximately 125 square feet, including the small hall by the doorway. 100 square feet was usable. Remove space for a king bed, a small desk and your suitcases and there is no other room for anything. Certainly not people. The decor was 70 years old, the room was very noisy - street noise that was incessant. The air conditioning was non-functional. The problem was that if we opened the window we might as well been sleeping in the middle of the street below. The beds were the worst of anything we have slept in in Europe. Oh yeah, no closets. If you picture a low level cruise ship room with no closets I think that would be the perfect visual - I think that covers it.The only saving grace was that by a lucky fluke we just happened to have scheduled this before the Queen of Holland abdicated her throne and the inauguration of her son and daughter-in-law as king and queen took place while we were there and it took place immediately across the street. It isn't often you wind up 20 feet from royalty.Again, everything was great except for the god-awful room.
