Nearly there!!
This a difficult review to write as it really is a mixed bag, I will therfore try to explain in pros and cons and then it is up to you whether you think the pros outweigh the cons! We had a wonderful holiday and the cons didn't spoil it for us but luxury this is not!Pros - Excellent location right on the beach and central for bars, shops etc. lobby area cool, clean and traditionally furnished, very spanish. Some new sunloungers with feb sea views. lovely dining room with sea views. Nice mix of clients, differing ages, not too many children and different nationalities. lovely staff Great views and enormous balconies on sea view rooms.Cons - Half finished areas ie indoor pool sauna complex Very dated bathrooms Awful worn towels Sunbeds around pool areas some very old needed replacing. No kids disco Entertainment poor To some up if renovated could be 5 star because of location but then would be out of our price range! Loved it just as it was but next time would take more towels!!

Rocky Rocador
Just returned from a week, with my wife,at the Rocador from 5th to 12th October. Not really one for writing reviews of our holiday accommodation,as in the main we get what we expect and sometimes more, however felt that in view of our experiences had to add our comments. Much has already been written about this hotel, so I hope that my own observations will give readers as wide an overview in which to make their own judgements on any future visit. This was our first visit to Majorca, and we decided to stay in Cala D'or on the recommendation of family and friends. We were simply looking for a cheap week in the sun and on both counts we were quite happy with what we got. Prior to booking we had seen the varied reviews on the Rocador and felt that much of the criticism related to the Rocador Playa, rather than the main hotel itself. We felt that as long as we ensured that we stayed in the main hotel we would accept things for what they were.Firstly the good news. The hotel is in as good a location as as you could hope for. Set alongside an excellent sandy beach, with plenty of facilities, at the head of a pretty cove,Cala Gran offers offers everything a beach lover would want. A delight to walk around.Secondly the complex is situated in a quiet side street, just off the main shopping area and only a short walk from the resort centre, with plenty of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. Now for the downside. The hotel is where it is,because it was one of the first such properties built as the resort developed during the late 60's/early 70's. Built in a Spanish style,on 3 floors,it must have been quite upmarket at the time. Regretably it is now a faded glory and needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it up to what could be even considered a decent 3 star hotel. There is an L shaped pool on the road side of the hotel, with gardens and terraces on the beach side. There are approx 40-50 steps in 4 flights, down to the beach, which could be a problem for anyone with walking difficulties;we didn't find this a problem. What we did find was poor quality beds around the pool, garden and terraces and certainly insufficient to meet the needs of a fully occupied hotel of this sizeThe public areas ,bar, etc were ok and though much of the furniture is old,its rustic nature seemed to fit in with the hotels Spanish feel. However the bedrooms were a different story!!At the time of booking, our travel agent wrote to the hotel specifying that we required a double room in the Rocador Hotel, not the Playa complex; we followed this up with an email a few days before departure. We were relieved to find that we had been allocated a 3rd floor room in the hotel itself, overlooking the beach, with a good sized balcony. On arrival we however discovered that we had single beds and a cot?? To their credit and after a few choice words with reception, the beds were converted into a double, and the cot removed. As mentioned by previous reviewers, the beds are quite firm and after taking this up once again with reception we had mattress toppers fitted and this did the trick;we had a good weeks sleep. The bedroom was very basically furnished with furniture that must have been there ever since it was built, though the bathroom was ok. Being near the end of season the hotel was only half full,so it gave us the opportunity to have a look at about a dozen other rooms during our stay, including the Playa and we didn't see any room you could consider furnished to a good standard, certainly nothing like some of the pictures on their website. On the plus side, the room was kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay, bedding regularly changed, and clean towels whenever requested. Plenty of hangars and enough storage space. Small flat screen TV on the wall, though many other rooms had old fashioned tubed sets. BBC & Sky News sufficient for our needs. On the negative side, no driers on the balcony. As reported elsewhere, the sister hotel,Rocador Playa next door is the poor

very very disapointed
id like to share my experience of this hotel just to let other people know what this hotel was like and hopefully this will not happen to anyone else,in september 2012 my teenager and i shared a room at this hotel a holiday present from family as we both work hard,we also have family in spain who we visited whilst there,anyway... on arival we went up to our room which was basic changed and went down for evening meal..the food was lovely i can not fault that freshley cooked and variety, but it was just the feeling we got from staff they were very busy overworked and misarable if im honest, that evening after visiting family in spain we returned and were kept awake by music and talking most of the night in the apartments either side us,this continued through out our stay which i told the lady on reception and she continued to egnore me and said she would make a note of it,by the end of our stay we were quite shocked at the level of noise from the surrounding apartments and noise from the hotels beside the hotel and the way we were treated by the staff who working in the recption and in the dining area, the rooms were clean every day no problems there,i do not recoment this hotel to anyone, and maybe sugest that the staff go on a customer service course or maybe smile more it left us very upset,i have never complained about a hotel before just dont want anyone going through what we did hope this helps :)

gorgeous location!
Here from 26 September til 6 October. A few small children - not too bad, we chose this time of year to avoid the school holidays. Booked Rocador Playa but given room in Rocador which we prefer. The Rocador Playa (adjoined) is a bit deserted in places - disused dining room and empty bar/salon area. The main hotel is very nice - furnished traditional Spanish style and extremely well maintained, though they could do with replacing the tired curtains and bedspreads in the rooms. Bedding clean though. Lots of choice in buffet style breakfast and dinner and delicious, though i do like everything! Room service is excellent, daily visit by cleaners/for towel changing/bed making etc. We had a ground floor "garden" room on arrival but changed to upper floor with sea view after 3 days - no extra charge and no problem, though being "out of season" might have helped. No signs of any insects in the rooms at all - even in the garden room. No tea/coffee making facilities as advertised and the Wifi was only available in the reception area (our room was above reception but Wifi not accessible). The general areas of the hotel were very clean - bazaarly they have just started "spring cleaning" and touch-up painting of the interior and exterior walls and paintwork, wet paint signs dotted around. Hotel closes on 22/10/12 Surely they could have waited! One thing i would mention is the steps - 22 down to the main reception from the road and more down into the garden then more again to the beach (though there are ramps). The main steps to reception are badly lighted and the front edges not marked and no hand rail, spelling disaster especially for anyone a little worse for a night out in Cala D'or! (I witnessed a lady fall down the last few and injure her arm). The gym is obviously not used and the equipment is in a parlous state - and the sauna and whirlpool didn't look as though they had been in use for some time though the indoor pool looked OK - didn't try it. The beach - Cala Gran is gorgeous, good for snorkelling with lots of smaller lovely coves/beaches nearby within walking/bus or minitrain distance. Would definitely come back to this area and hotel again.

Nice hotel - specially if you are German! They are preferred.
By and large this was a perfectly adequate hotel with good food and very pretty, typically Majorcan style furniture in the bedrooms, though my bed was very hard and had a spring sticking through it! A cover over the mattress would have helped.Unfortunately I found the reception people fairly unfriendly and unhelpful - though after they heard that I had spoken German with a German person they got friendlier !!!I had read reviews before I went and therefore requested a high floor in the Playa - what I got was a groundfloor room in the main Rocador ! However, I was quite happy, the room was fine and very quiet, which was all I wanted. I found the air con only worked when you had your keycard in the slot - which is probably why another couple found theirs didn't work when they weren't in the room. (I asked for a second key card but was refused one).My main complaint would be that from my (groundfloor) room to the beach there are 60 - yes, sixty - steps. Nowhere is this mentioned - it says it is "on the beach". Even from the main reception area there are over 50 steps - having had a minor knee operation after having booked, this could have been a disaster, as I mainly go for the beach and to swim. However I managed. The bathroom service was just adequate, towels and sheets were only changed twice during my 2 weeks but the room was kept clean (and I know they cleaned, as I went back to my room one day and found the maid cleaning). There wasn't as much entertainment as had been promised - my first evening there was a singer, but she never appeared again - end of season?? - and there were some fairly basic flamenco dancers on the Sundays. The best entertainment that I found (being alone I do not go very far in the evenings) was just up the road at the Sa Font restaurant/bar, where they had an enjoyable singer who also played the piano every few days and also a different lady singer who sang mainly Spanish type music.By the way, the beach is lovely, but small, and at the time I went (6 - 20 September) it was full, and I mean full, of babies from 2 weeks to 4 years old. I have never ever seen so many small children anywhere! Also, the beach is incredibly crowded, there was barely room to put down your towel, sometimes towels from different people actually overlapped.Would I go back? No, but I wouldn't tell someone definitely not to go - I had a lovely holiday in spite of a few thngs which weren't perfect. But then, you don't get 5*+ for 3*- prices.
