The Vila de Tossa looks more like a business hotel from the outside, with its quite formal and imposing reception area. The hotel is modern and looks high quality, the bedrooms are large and well furnished, the bathrooms very well finished. Some of the bedrooms have balconies at the back of the hotel, we had one of these, which meant that the balcony didn't receive much sunlight and didn't have an attractive an aspect. However, there is a sun terrace with loungers on the roof of the hotel which easily compensates. Being in the centre of Tossa de Mar, the hotel is right in the middle of the shopping area, and for example has a small supermarket directly across the road which was helpful. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel, but did have breakfast which was very good indeed - very Spanish and exceptionally well presented, with good juice, coffee, fruits, meats, cheeses, breads, etc. In fact, we can find no reason to criticise breakfast at all. Staff service was good at reception and in the dining room; everyone was courteous and welcoming and highly professional. The lack of a pool and not being seafront may put some people off, but we would say it is well worth a look and suited us very well indeed.

We stayed for 10 days and had a lovely relaxing holiday. The reception staff were polite and friendly Andrea particularly so, she spoke very good English and always ready to help. Check-in was quick and efficient, we had paid to upgrade and had a fantastic room on the 4th floor. It was a lovely clean spacious room, with a seating area and desk, the room was thoroughly cleaned every day. The cleaning ladies did a great job they were always around cleaning somewhere. There was loads of storage space with a wardrobe with plenty of hangers plus a large set of drawers as well. The beds were very comfortable as were the pillows with spares in the wardrobe, we had clean sheets and fresh towels every day we were also given fresh shampoo and conditioner most days, the hair dryer was good too. We had a huge terrace over looking the tree lined road with a lovely view of lighthouse. The room contained a free safe and small fridge which was great to store drinks in, the air con worked really well and we certainly needed it, the daytime temperatures never went below 30. In the evening the terrace were fantastic to sit on and watch the world go by. It was festival time and there was a funfare up the road but we couldn't hear it once we closed the patio doors. The roof terrace was superb very clean with great comfortable sun loungers and a shower, the view from here were even better than our terrace we had it to ourselves most of the time.We can't understand why this hotel doesn't get better reviews, we've stayed in the Delfin and this is better, it was very quiet in the week and only got busy on Saturday nights. We wouldn't have taken children here it's more for adults, children need entertainment go to the Bahia or Oasis Tossa. We really couldn't find any fault with this hotel the location is great near to shops, bars and restaurants yet lovely and quiet inside the rooms and less than five minutes to the beach. We shall certainly be back before the end of the season!!

We arrived at the Vila de Tossa after a very long, slow transfer from Barcelona airport to find that we only had one room reserved instead of the 3 we¿¿¿d booked and paid for. The young woman on the front desk spoke very little English, but fortunately one of our party was a Spanish speaker so it was sorted out fairly quickly. The only slight quibble was that I had requested a double bed in one of the rooms but we were given twin beds, even though I later saw unoccupied rooms which would have been suitable.The rooms were a good size, with free wi-fi, fridge, safe and aircon ¿¿¿ all of which we¿¿¿ve paid extra for in other hotels. They were thoroughly cleaned every day, as were the very efficient lifts and public areas.We stayed on a half board basis. Breakfast was excellent, dinner a bit variable, with similar dishes offered every evening and not always what we¿¿¿d ordered. The food was very Spanish, which we appreciated, and it was nice having waiter service instead of the boring buffets we¿¿¿ve had in many hotels. The house wine was really good; a bargain at 7.5 euros a bottle. My husband is vegetarian and he ended up with 2 starters most days ¿¿¿ fine once the waiter remembered that ham and tuna are not vegetables!The hotel is in a very good position on a main shopping street, 5 minutes walk to the beach and 10 mins to the old town.We had a great day trip to Barcelona, with Juan Carlos (www.taxitossademar.com) who spoke good English and took us on a fab tour of all the famous sights of the city, stopping so that we could look round at our own pace. It cost about the same as a bus tour ¿¿¿ 300 euros for 6 people for 9 hours with comfortable taxi and lovely guide. Well worth it!

The hotel was clean and smart, the rooms large and well equipped. We had two rooms with large terrace areas which were on the same floor as the jacuzzi (15 euros per half hour) and sun terrace, where you could sunbathe peacefully. The hotel was right for us as we didn't require a swimming pool and the beach was just a few minutes walk away. There was a handy supermarket opposite the hotel and shops and restaurants all around. Breakfast was very nice, buffet style with hot options available on request. Hotel staff were polite and friendly. There was no downside to this hotel in our opinion. And we loved the resort of Tossa de Mar as it had absolutely everything we required.

We stayed at the Vila de Tossa in September 2007. It is very central and is right across the road from a great supermarket. We did not experience any noise from the main road. The room was clean and comfortable. No pool but a roof terrace from which the views are wonderful. The staff were courteous but not over friendly. What lets this hotel down is the food. Breakfast ok-ish, but the evening meal, what a let down that was. It wasnt a buffet, but waiter service, so if you didnt like it, too bad. I am not such a picky eater, but the food was awful. We ended up eating out most nights after having paid for half board.We left very early on the morning of our departure, and the night porter laid on a lovely breakfast for us, I know he was told to, but he was such a nice guy and very helpful.Tossa itself is a lovely place, dont miss the Vila Vela.
