Good location but dated decor

We stayed here for one night while passing through Madrid. We got a great deal for ¿¿¿76 for one night room only. Hotel has an excellent location if you are coming from the Airport as it is just off the first stop on the Airport shuttle bus. Check in was quick although the gentleman who attended to us wasn't particularly friendly and asked us to pay even though the room had been pre-paid. The next morning we decided to have breakfast in the hotel. We went to the restaurant and waited at the entrance for a member of staff to come over so we could tell them that we needed to pay for breakfast. After waiting for sometime to speak to a member of staff but to no avail we went and had breakfast. There was a good selection on offer although the hot food wasn't actually hot. On checking out we informed reception that we had to pay for breakfast and they asked us why we hadn't paid at the restaurant..."you should have paid at the restaurant". We had to explain that we tried but no member of staff came to us. They seemed put out by this fact and didn't say thanks for our honesty as we could have just dropped off the keys and said nothing and left without paying for the food.The Room itself was fine except it was dark and dated...we didn't get one of the newer looking ones on the website. On the plus side the bathroom had two sinks which is always good when there is more than one person staying.

Excellent, Great value for money

Hote Convencion was advertised as a budget hotel when we booked our room online. We weren't expecting anything fancy, just a nice clean hotel close to the centre of Madrid.When we arrived we suprised at just how nice the reception area looked. It has a big reception and an area with lots of sofas, chairs and a few computers with WiFi and printers for a small price.We were on floor 2 and were absolutely delighted with our room. It was huge! We had a fridge, TV, Floor length mirrors, a wardrobe, blankets, a safe, aircon + more. The bathroom was gorgeous - 2 sinks, a bath, shower, and a separate area with the toilet. It was so much more luxurious than we had expected.The maids came in daily to make our bed and restock things like new towels, soap, shower gel etc I had a problem one day where I couldn't get the printer to work. I went to reception to explain and they kindly printed off my documents for me from their reception printer free of charge.All the staff were very firiendly and helpful.The hotel is a short distance from a metro station and within walking distance of shops, food and drinks places and the main city centre.A 5 minute walk up from the hotel is a lovely little bakery / coffee shop that sells amazing pastrys and some of the best coffee I have tried!I would reccomend this hotel to friends and family as it was great value for money and a lovely hotel.

Excellent location for Palacio De Deportes

Spent three nights in this hotel which we booked because it was close to Palacio De Deportes where we were seeing a band, Palacio De Deportes is actually just behind the hotel which is great after a gig (No travelling) Take the big yellow transfer bus from airport which cost 5euro each and it's the first stop in the O'donnell area, hotel is minutes away, and the bus stop to return is right across the road(same yellow bus). The hotel is very grand on entering, and the rooms were large and were cleaned every day, some of the reviews say the hotel is a little dated, personnally I thought it looked retro and you only get what you pay for. Room was clean with free TV (If interested) , fridge, and a safe (Small Charge) We didn't eat or drink in the hotel as there was so many places around the hotel to choose from and the weather was so nice so we were out early sitting in the sun. The hotel is so close to the lovely Retiro Park which we walked around every day we were there, and we still seen something different every day, it is well worth a visit. There are quite a few Metros near by taking you to different parts of Madrid, maybe next time if we have more time. We were in a double room on floor five window facing into other rooms so had to keep curtains closed due to privacy as windows are very close to each other, this is no reflection on the hotel but I was so glad we had a TV in the room(drown out noise) as some of the more amourous lovers in the hotel maybe actually forgot they were in a hotel with paper thin walls! was not pleasant at 3am, well not for me! This happened evey day we were there, so please any future visitors if I can keep it down then so can you! Can't really fault this hotel, served the purpose and weI would return again hopefully without the lovers!

Outstanding customer service!

Booked for the marathon. Location was prime for this event with proximity to Retiro Park. Also, very convenient ODonnel Airport Express bus stop a couple blocks from hotel. Breakfast was delicious, exceeding all expectations. Staff was very prepared for event and large number of guests. Large mall and multiple pastry shops nearby. After son left backpack on bus en route to hotel, staff went the extra mile to track it down through the city transit company and managed to get it returned to us within the hour. Outstanding customer service from top to bottom. Shuttle setup for Expo to/from. WiFi prices a little steep. And rooms in desperate need of remodel, however they were very clean. Not sure i agree with price of rooms. Not the biggest bang for your buck. Overall, would definitely go with Hotel Convencion and refer to friends in the future especially for an event of this kind.

Good all sovietic type hotel .... Avoid Avoid

Don't say you didn't know. This is a dark (no light in there) factory for tourists. Huge hotel which is rather far from the core of Madrid. Price is attractive but that's all you have (85 EUR on company rate). Wifi is charged (no kidding in 2013), breakfast is in a blind room in the basement. Poor buffet and noisy. Will stop the review there. Just avoid and spend maybe a bit more money somewhere else. I had no choice as I was picked up by a friend living close by early in the morning but clearly never again.
