Great location
Friendly staff helped with bags and numerous questions. Would stay again in what appears to be newer addition in the back. The many stairs and uneven floors, while historic, were a bit hard on arthritic knees. Stayed three nights and found cleaning staff really did their job well. Bathroom was recently remodeled; shower/bath controls a bit complicated. Car park in back worked out well for us; room for our slightly over-sized rental. Good value for money.

Getting Tired and in need of some TLC.
A beautiful centrally located Hotel within walking distance to all he sights in stratford. Parking at ¿¿10 per 24 hours but not very big but adequate. The interior is in need of some tlc. The double room was adequate with bath and shower but very small. The carpets are quite worn on the stairs and a general brush up would be good.Unfortunately the fire alarm went off at 0300 and we all had to stand in the car park until 4.30am until we were allowed back in. It was obvious then that the better rooms got robes!!!For the price it was fine but i think i would pay a little extra next time to stay elsewhere. Would be excellent after an overhaul!

Beauty is only skin deep
A wonderful Tudor facade on a hotel ideally situated for RSC theatres - the Shakespeare being only five minutes walk away. The public areas are comfortable but we cannot comment on the restaurant as we did not eat there. We were offered breakfast at ¿¿10 per head when we arrived but as there is a Wetherspoons on Sheep Street where breakfast is a fiver we chose to eat there.Reception staff were very helpful and pleasant although here appears to be a shortage of staff as no one was available to take our luggage to our room. The car park is very small and, in keeping with many hotels, a charge of ¿¿10 per day was applied to our bill. However, WiFi is now available throughout the hotel although, if you want to do more than catch up on your emails, there is a daily charge. Our room was small but just about adequate. It enjoyed a view of the car park through old and rattling windows. The room was hot and this resulted in a disturbed night's sleep until we got yhe hang of the aircon. The bathroom appeared to have been recently refurbished and there was plenty of hot water and an efficient shower. However, the nylon shower curtain was both unhygienic and a throwback to an earlier age and was representative of the generally tired and neglected feel that pervaded most of the hotel. This was the second time we had stayed at the Mercure. We chose it because of its convenient location and the cheap deal we got by booking several months in advance. We won't be staying again but would still recommend it if a cheap deal was on offer and we had a lesson in aircon management on arrival!

Lovely
We stayed for two nights in this lovely hotel. Excellent location. Not a very big carpark so you need to book to park.. But there is an NCP carpark just a few metres away and you get a discount if you ask the staff. The hotel itself has very friendly staff, We had a very cute room named twelfth night.(small) but that wasnt a problem. Clean and everything you need for a short stay. View wasnt brilliant, we looked onto a roof, we didnt mind though. Rooms get quite warm at night. Decor lovely, very tudor, wardrobe/clothing space fine, including ironing board, hairdryer etc. Comfy bed (not as good has our own though) sorry! ! Staff were lovely and friendly. Food was excellent and to be greeted by a lovely friendly gentleman at breakfast time was a bonus. First day at breakfast was very busy but we still had some lovely food, buffet style, bacon , eggs etc and when it runs out the staff always make sure it is filled up again. Waiters/waitresses remove plates as soon as you have finished. (little moan the tables are a little small ) Definately recommend this hotel and would stay there again. Try the restaurant over the road called Moon, gorgeous food and lovely staff . We came home to out hotel late after our meal one night, expecting we would not be able to have a night cap - (my husband likes a brandy) The lovely barmaid came to us and explained she was shutting the blind to the bar but asked us if we wanted a drink just to ask. Stratford is a beautiful, historic place which is just on our doorstep, we will MOST definately visit again. Do visit the oldest pub The Garrick, would definately recommend, that was just down the road. A must is Shakespeares house and a visit to the theatre. Go and visit the Falstaffs too its one of the most historic properties in Stratford. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and because it was the Classic Car Show weekend it was even better, a sit by the river ended what was a gorgeous few stress free days away. Enjoy

A little disappointed
On many trips to Stratford always fancied staying here but always seemed pricey so when found a good deal - let's do it! Hotel very attractive exterior right in town centre and close to theatre. Car park [¿¿10 per day] tricky to find and not large. Reception v.friendly and we were offered an upgrade for ¿¿30 to a large room with 4 poster etc. We only staying 1 night and going to theatre anyway so didn't take offer up. Our room [Bardolph] was in old part so lots of dark wood, dark furniture and huge carving over bedhead. I like 'old' but found it a teeny bit claustrophobic to be honest as it was a fairly small room, 2 windows with a horrid internal view. Room very hot so we needed the air con.Bathroom very large light airy perhaps I should have slept in there. Toiletries a bit random 3 shampoo and 1 shower gel. After theatre [brilliant as always] came back and had a drink in the Quill Bar. Attractive enough lounge, very in keeping with character of building. Drinks expensive but I expected that.Retired to bed.Awoken at 6am by feet and voices and also the dragging of furniture somewhere either above or adjacent to the room.Breakfast - hot buffet and a small selection to be ordered. My husband had a kipper. I had the hot buffet - fairly average. We had prebooked breakfast on arrival for ¿¿10 each. Probably worth it.On departure another pretty friendly girl at Reception, I mentioned the unwanted 6am noise, but although she apologised I just knew it wouldn't be passed on.I'm pleased we stayed there and it is probably really good in the winter - all dark beams ands fires but I don't think we'll give it a go again in the summer particularly as there is no outside space.
