Great location from the train station, neat and clean, great customer service.
We were 2 families traveling together so we were in need of a quad and a triple. We booked this place through Hotels.com and then I immediately contacted the hotel in Strasbourg to confirm the reservation. So glad I did. While my sister-in-law was guaranteed her triple, the hotel had run out of quad rooms. Imagine if my family had shown up expecting the quad and being told, sorry, no room at the inn. Instead, they offered us 2 doubles with an extra 40 Euro per night fee. I needed a little more time to go back on the internet to see if I could beat that rate and couldn't. So we did book with Hotel de France the 2 double rooms. Throughout this process they were courteous and respectful and confirmed with us via email the change in the reservation. Hotels.com will not receive much of my business in the future as our last transaction with them ended up with a guarantee of free parking and when we got to the hotel we were told that the parking is never free at their hotel and didn't honor Hotels.com commitment to us. The double rooms were tiny even by European standards, but very clean offering only soap as toiletries if that is important to you. In the bathroom if you check the hair dryer, you can plug in your 110 v cell phone, ipad, laptop etc to recharge, a wonderful perk. Internet was free. The triple was much roomier with a balcony and I know that the quads have balconies as well but there are only 4 of quad rooms. It was a ten minute walk from the train station, but in the heart of downtown Strasbourg. Breakfast was 7 euro for one hot drink, one juice, 2 pastries or one bread/butter/jam. For an additional 7 euros you could receive the full buffet with meat, cheeses, yogurt, etc. We passed on the breakfast and went to bakeries each of the 3 days we were there. Wow, the French know how to bake! The customer service was excellent and the main reason why we would go back. They took the time to give us directions and explain how to get from one attraction to the next. They do add an extra 3 Euro per night fee to everyone's bill. A little about the attractions that they recommended: We loved the Alsation Museum (thanks for the great reviews on TA). We were underwhelmed with the Astronomical Clock at the cathedral which has a 25 minute filmstrip in different languages (so you stand with a huge group of people throughout the interpretations) and the canal boats were not working that day because the water was too high. We did enjoy climbing the cathedrals. We climbed 2. Not only was it a great family workout, but the views of the city were gorgeous at each platform we stopped at to take a breath. The Christmas markets although wonderful, don't rival the German markets but they are open after Christmas which only a few which remain open in Germany. We would stay here again.

Great Weekend in Strasbourg
Went to Strasbourg to visit friends who had recently moved there after 3yrs in Princeton NJ. As it was the start of the Christmas Market trying to find a room was a challenge.. The hotel was well place for walking around and everything was easily reached. The hotel was clean and staff very friendly and helpful.. 5mins from the train station and trams 2mins away getting around the city was very simple.. Would certainly stay here again.

Horrible service
I stayed for just one night at Hotel de France in Strasbourg, and I do not think I could stand another one. We had reservation for four people, but when we arrived at the hotel, we saw only three beds in the room. We talked to the guy in reception, who told us that the girl that was in reception before forgot the child in the reservation, that is why we only had 3 beds. He then told me he could not put another bed in the room because he was THE ONLY PERSON working that evening!!! The he assigned two rooms. To make it short, our family - me, my husband and two kids - would have stay in two rooms. The othe room was simply awful. No heating, no light, no towels, no soap, no shampoo!!! The other room was very tiny, as well as it television set. We asked to come back to the first room, and my husband had to sleep in another tiny room on some other floor. All the time, the guy in the reception did nothing. The rooms were ok in what concerns comfortr, bue all the rest as very bad.

First Impression - Tired
Location and parking were a priority when choosing a hotel in Strasbourg. Booked over the phone and advised parking was a priority. Shame they don't advise just being able to park outside to get instructions to the underground hotel parking is a challenge. We eventually parked a couple of streets away and walked to reception. We booked Best Western because we had made a good choice at a previous location a few days before. First impression at check-in was, this is a tired hotel and needs a refresh in the public areas. We had a renovated room on the first floor and apart from the poor design of the bathroom (doors everywhere which made access awkward with 2 persons dodging one another) the room was very nice, clean and comfortable. Good internet access.
