Gone down the nick
Stayed in this hotel 3 years ago when privately owned. Was ok then. Still had faded charm. Stayed again over the May Day bank holiday just gone. The hotel, like a lot of Southport itself, has gone down the nick. To start, the room was ok and clean. My shower worked but others in our party not so lucky. Parking hopeless. Ended up parking at the sister Prince of Wales Hotel 300yds away. Service in reception was ok but dining room service for breakfast and breakfast itself terrible. Lift useless/slow. Fish and chip cartons in corridor on way to room. Carpet in entrance area a disgrace. Place needs decorating and windows cleaned. Friday and Saturday nights after 8.30pm ground floor and entrance way full of noisy drunks. Goodness knows what a foreign visitor would have thought returning to the hotel at these times or indeed by staying at the hotel generally. Truly terrible. English hospitality at its very worst. You ought to be ashamed Britannia Hotels.

Not As Bad As I Was Expecting!
Stayed here for 3 nights booked on Friday when we arrived in Southport so literally booked 15 mins before arriving at the hotel. Parking is a nightmare about 10 spaces and that is it. So parked car and left it there for 3 days didn't dare move because we wouldn't have got in again! Room was fine clean and comfortable. A few problems heating didn't work but they gave us a fire so they sorted it. Kettle was hit and miss if it did or didn't work. Water was cold but was told to let it run for 20mins and then it would be hot!!! Which to be fair did work BUT what a waste of water??? Didn't have breakfast booked room only so cant comment on that. It is supposed to have a pool but didn't see one and couldn't find one? I do think the place needs sorting out its entrance is also that to Malloneys bar or something like that and to be honest recpetion is stuck up a corner. Staff never asked if everything was ok with our stay because i don't think they want to hear the answer!!! We had to pay on arrival which again is not the normal? It didn't really feel like you are staying in a hotel Our room was 236 and it was quiet so we didn't have any problems on that score. My experience was it was no where near as bad as some of the reviews i have read. I think you have to stay there and judge for yourself. Whether we were just lucky with the room and the fact that it was quiet i don't know. All the staff appear to be totally fed up and i'm not surprised when they are faced with complaint after complaint. I cant believe the management don't sort out this hotel if it was my business and i was getting the reviews that this place gets i would have to do something about it?

Absolute hell hole!!! Be Warned
what a scum hole, on arrival they didn't have the room we booked available so we took a double, the lady on reception, with the bad attitude described it as a "Nice Room". If that's her vision of nice then she must live in the sewers!!!! On our way to the room the lift proved not for the faint hearted! Got out of the lift on the 4th floor and the stench of a Marijauna crops filled the corridor!!! This was not the smell of a one off toke!! It filled the place !! Sniffer dogs would have a field day ( and a Marijauna field at that!). The room was a sticky hell hole, it stank, the furniture was old, broken and sticky! The carpet was crawling and it was certainly a "wipe your feet on the way out" job. The bath water ran brown, there was no milk and when I asked the mouth behind reception I was told " got none, I've been cleaned out of milk" ??! The list goes on... The noise overnight was the worst, even through 4x glazed windows I felt like I was trying to sleep on a bench in a nightclub!! Relentless evening shouts, screams and sirons!! My advice is dont bother!! It's cheap for a reason and I would rather spend a night in Hell with Rats than even step food in this dump again!!!! Even tramps slept on the street outside covered in sick, they are probably guests that took the cleaner option!!

Great location but pack your earplugs
Stayed here for Southport's last game of the season. Check in was slow and a bit chaotic due to the lack of staff on reception, no criticism whatsoever of the girl on duty who was trying her bes. NO parking available on site but go on road parking just behind hotel that cost ¿¿4 on a meter and was handy enough.Room on 4th floor was really nice and you could see over the rooftops out to sea, a rarity in Southport!The main issue with hotel was the noise levels emanating from the nearby clubs and bars on West Street that continued until about 4am.Oh and breakfast was just awful, quite possibly the worst 'Full English' I've ever experienced.overall quite good value for money and a cracking location right in the heart of town.

Don't bother!
Stayed here about 2 years ago and realised why I hadn't been back sooner. Loud music, uninterested staff and rooms in need of serious makeover. Went to reception and the lady was more interested in finishing her McDonalds before seeing to me. I will never be coming back!
