It ends up being the customer service!
Don't get me wrong Sheraton has the name, but the building is a little older. Vicki with the bar/restaurant made our trip exceptional. She went above and beyond when all we needed was a couple of plates for some sandwiches. Rooms were decent. The beds were comfortable with a nice selection of pillows. The workout room was great, and the kids loved the pool.

Terrific hotel worth every penny
It's a Sheraton and you know it as soon as you step in. From the front desk "trainee" to the late night bartender everyone is there to help you with a smile. Room are neat, spacious, tv a bit small but ok no free wifi but heck our tablets are on 4G.The food was also terrific and much less expensive than expected, the restaurant team are also very professional and quite nice.

This is a very good hotel. From the moment I entered until I left, the customer service was excellent. Very nice room and the hotel was well managed and very clean. The food was good and the location of the hotel is very good

Needs updating, staff VERY nice
We stayed at the Sheraton West Des Moines Hotel in May. The staff were extremely professional and pleasant. We stayed on the club level. This property looks like it was an Embassy Suites that Sheraton purchased. I would have given it a higher ranking, but it is very dated. We came late at night, and the lobby was a bit malodorous. The decor is outdated...the entire property really needs to be updated. Again the staff were wonderful.....

Great hotel between two highways
If you're in Iowa for work and a Starwood loyalist, your choices are few and far between as there are only 2 properties in the entire state. While this property in West Des Moines is 11 miles from downtown, it is easily accessible from I80 and I235. There are plenty of chain restaurants around the property which make up for it's lack of food offerings. Though, the food at thier Waterfall Grill (aka the hotel bar) were very good. The hotel was clearly an Embassy Suites at one time and does not have the feel of a Sheraton, but is very comfortable and well staffed. I would NOT reccomend getting a King suite if you plan on using the pull-out full-size bed, it was the WORST night's sleep of my life. The roll-away bed I got the following night was a marked improvement over the sofa bed. I reccomend sticking with a standard double-double if you're with family or a business associate. The room size is not significantly bigger. The room is full of power outlets - 2 in each night stand and the desk also has built-in outlets. The room also comes with a fridge and microwave which is uber helpful for storing beer and leftovers. And the bathroom has a seperate sink outside of the bathroom to allow two people to get ready at the same time. And while they do have a "heated" pool, it is heated to Iowa standards and not so much Florida standards. Also there is no hot tub, but the lobby bar will bring you food and drink to the pool, which is lovely after a long day on the road.
