VINTAGE HOTEL IN A BEAutiful CITY!
The luggage I had with me was worrisome as I had no transfers in Inverness but to my pleasant surprise my hotel, The Royal Highland Hotel, was adjoining to the railway station! Phew! I was relieved! The young lady at the reception was very helpful and always smiling which was good to see. She helped me a couple of times with directions across the city. All the three rooms that I'd booked were very nice with a great view of the city. The restrooms too were fully equipped and well maintained much like the rooms. The breakfast spread was the same both the days I put up here but nevertheless, quality very good! The location of the hotel automatically becomes favorable if the city in which it is situated be as small as Inverness. So, thumbs up here as well!A special mention to the alluring paintings that the hotel has on one of the staircases from the first to the second floor. It outshone everything as it was very refreshing and amazingly different. The city of Inverness was breathtakingly BEAutiful and so was the Isle Of Skye. The two nights that I spent here passed without any problems and left me with only good memories to cherish about, the hotel as well as the majestic city of Inverness!God bless! :)

Better than expected!
Having read some very poor reviews previously posted about this hotel I was very unsure about staying here - I was pleasantly suprised! The hotel is very welcoming and the staff at reception were very pleasant and helpful throughout my stay and the staff at breakfast were very happy to help.My room was spacious and well appointed and my bathroom was clean and spacious. The one - minor! - drawback was the food. I had my evening meal in the hotel on two evenings and while the food was ok it was nothing special. The main problem I had was with breakfast. The hot food was nice - and there was a very large selction to choose from - but the rolls were not very fresh! This is a small quible from an otherwise very good stay!

Old World Style, Modern Comfort
When Queen Victoria fell in love with The Highlands, it spawned a whole wave of tourism. To accommodate the influx of visitors, new hotels sprung up all over Scotland. When trains became the preferred mode of traveling, many of these new hotels were built beside train stations for the convenience of travelers. One of these "railway hotels" was the Royal Highland Hotel which opened in 1856.Upon entering, you can't help but notice the ornate grand staircase in the center of the hotel. According to the Royal Highland's brochure, the designers of the RMS Titanic's grand staircase used this one as the model. Another interesting tidbit from the brochure was that Queen Victoria herself had once visited. The hotel does have a restaurant but as I was part of a large tour group that brought its own musical entertainment, we ate in the Wallace Hall ballroom. With its finely papered walls, crystal chandeliers and elaborately decorated ceilings, I felt as if I had been transported back in time to a banquet in some stately home.I was even impressed with the public ladies' room which was luxurious and extremely clean. When I arrived at my room, I noticed that the bedroom window was frosted which was a bit disappointing as I was hoping for a picturesque view. I later found out that the frosted window was due to the room being literally over the railroad tracks. Miraculously, when I was in the room, I never heard a train. The walls must have had amazing soundproofing built into them. The room was small and the twin beds were a bit too close to each other. But the amenities provided were above average. The guest tray not only contained a selection of teas and coffees but hot chocolate as well. And the bathroom toiletries were of a good quality. My only negative comment is that the hair drier required one to keep their finger pressed on the button in order for it to operate. But that inconvenience is minuscule compared to all the positives that the Royal Highland has to offer.I found the staff to be very helpful and accommodating. One night it had been very cold and I had turned on the electric heater. Of course I turned it off in the morning. When I arrived back in the room that evening I noticed that the cleaning person had turned it back on so that the room would be warm and toasty upon my return. The Royal Highland is very close to a shopping mall as well as the traditional "Victorian Market." It is a short walk to both the bus station and the River Ness.I give this charming old-world-styled hotel a thumbs up and I definitely would stay there again.

Victorian splendour today!
Having read some negative reviews previously posted, we approached our stay purchased through a groupon deal with slight trepidation. How wonderfully wrong we were pleased to be, the hotel is beautiful - the granduer of the bygone age of sumptious rail hotels coupled with the modern ASH restaurant resulted in our enjoyment of both the old and new. Staff were very welcoming and helpful and our room was spacious with a lovely newly refurbished bathroom and good quality toiletries. We were also given vouchers for buy one get one half price on a cocktail and 20% off restaurant food. The restaurant is most definitely worth trying and the food we experienced was very good and excellent value. Overall a lovely enjoyable stay and we hope to return soon.
