Big rooms - shame about the lack of staff
I have stayed here a couple of times on business and for the area you get a good rate for the size of room and location. Last time it took about 30 minutes to check in. A problem with someone elses booking with only 1 member of staff on the reception desk. In the end I managed to flag down someone that worked in the restaurant that didn't know how to use the system and took 15 minutes to check me in. Why didn't the person on reception call to the manager to sort out the problem booking?I also felt a little mislead over the free wifi claim on the hotel advertising. Yes there is free wifi in the lobby area but not in the room - a charge of some ¿¿24 pounds for 24 hours of surfing no less! The hotel is in a good area for shopping and eating out. I always go and have dinner at the metro centre which is either a short drive or walk depending on the weather. If you like shopping then plenty of the main brands close by too.The breakfast is very good, although after 15 minutes of waiting I had to ask for a coffee to be served on my last trip; again I think because the hotel doesnt have enough staff. All in all an ok hotel for business at an ok rate.

Lovely night stay and gallery movie at the metro
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the staff were friendly and the room very spacious. Breakfast was very good aswell and is worth adding to your stay if its not already included. Only faults were the mattress on the bed was very well worn although this didn't effect our sleep as the bed was very large and the bedding was very comfortable. The air conditioning however is very poor it does not cool the room and we found it was better to just open the window. The location is perfect very easy to find and surrounded by things to do. The bathrooms are fantastic with complementary toiletries and the bath tub is big enough to share. I appreciated the free ice, wine bucket and glasses it was a nice touch to our night.

Excellent, but....
This hotel constantly provides good service, large and comfortable rooms with probably some of the most friendly and helpful staff to be found in any UK hotel, a fine accolade when it's remembered that this is a four star chain hotel in the middle of the concrete jungle that is the Metrocentre. One point I would make though is that the bar staff don't hold up to the rest of the team. There is obviously pressure put on them to maximise sales. Every order is replied to with a question as to whether you want to 'make it a double' or 'have something else' to go with it. No! I just want what I asked for!The reason better training would also help is that when asked to add 'Worcester Sauce' to a tomato juice the female barmaid looked totally puzzled and searched far and wide finally producing a bottle of Angostura Bitters as an offering. Exhausted from trying to explain what Worcester Sauce was and what it was used for I gave up on my request.Later that evening I asked a male barman for some Angostura Bitters in my G&T. Another attack of total confusion followed along with a long discussion as to what said bottle looked like. Disappearing behind the bar for over two minutes he came back with a bottle of Worcester Sauce ! Giving up on the G&T I asked for a pint of Cider. This is how it went.... 'Cider's Off'. 'OK, how about a Guinness?''We can only charge a can'.....Huh? Don't know what that means. OK, how about the other Guinness tap?''Guinness is off'. 'OK. Let's start again....Good evening, what do you have on draft tonight?''Boddington's and the lager''OK, I'll have a pint of Boddies''Did you want two pints and a Sandwich to go with that?' The reply wasn't printable!I was reminded of the old joke where a man goes into a bar up north and asks for a cider and blackcurrant. The barman flexes firm muscles as he crosses his arm and replies 'We don't do cocktails'

A good chain hotel with impressive leisure facilities
We often stay at the Marriott in Sunderland, but as the latter was full this weekend we decided to stay at the nearest Marriott and weren't disappointed. Although the location isn't the most picturesque (car parks and shopping centres don't compare well to the sea view from the Sunderland Marriott), the hotel is larger and better presented than it's Sunderland neighbour. The room was comfortable, and I'm told by my better half that the leisure facilities are excellent (significantly better than in Sunderland). Staff were friendly. Had to wait a few minutes when checking in as only one person was on reception at the time, but apart from that and the view I can't really find fault.

Really nice hotel
Was really impressed with this hotel. All staff were genuinely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were great - very spacious and well furnished and maintained. Great location to visit not just the MetroCentre but also Newcastle City centre by nearby train or bus. Breakfast was great, lots of choice. Swimming pool was really nice too.I really can't fault this hotel at all, definitely recommended and would return in future.
