Diamond in the ruff..
We are staying at one of the closet hotels to Edinburgh train station. The hotel itself is going through renovations So there are bolts of carpet in the front hall and some places under construction. Was told all should be wrapped up with in a month. This did not bother us at all as our rooms have been recently renovated and looked lovely and the bathroom awesome with a towel warmer. Yes the halls in some places are very old looking and smelling but you just walk through that area. The places that count like your room is perfect. All the staff including workers were very polite and friendly. We slept with the window open and loved the bagpipes from nearby parks as we went to bed

Our lovely stay
We always stay in this hotel one for the convenience of the location.and the very pleasant staff. The hotel is very clean and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. We have family living in Edinburgh and whenever we stay at the hotel they always come over to the hotel for a lovely meal. We feel very lucky to have found such a nice hotel that we feel is home from home .

Avoid at all costs
We booked this hotel due to a recommendation by someone who has stayed there in the past, however we wouldn't do the same in the future.The hotel is currently under going renovation work so it was fairly noisy. Walking to the room, the corridors smelt strongly of fresh cigarette smoke and the walls and carpets were stained. We requested a different room after seeing the one allocated due to the dirty conditions, and were able to have a choice of two, neither of which were a great improvement but chose our second option which was a better standard (still needs work though). The rooms definitely need improving and housekeeping was very unimpressive : carpets were worn and unclean, no sign of hovering and very dusty with cobwebs. The towels in the bathroom had marks on them, and the throws on the beds looked like they'd never been washed.The windows were difficult to open/close, and the view outside was blocked due to rooftops and gutters.The shower was quite low, and the water temperature took a while to get right. Our room door also had a two inch gap at the bottom.However, good points for the staff and the food. The staff were friendly and very helpful when asked questions about the area, and the food portion sizes were good (you get a lot for the price you pay).Overall, we found the hotel wasn't as advertised on the website.

I don't know where to start
This was booked by my company. The single room smelt terribly of damp. Hot water took over 10 minutes to reach the shower. The alleyway below was very noisy all the time. The walls and carpet were stained (looks as though there had been severe water damage). The sink was at the foot of the bed. The room still used sheets and blankets.Pluses - it's opposite the station. There is free wifi. There is refurbishment on going, so maybe it will improve.

A weekend in Edinburgh
I chose this hotel due to the location, I was in Edinburgh for the Half marathon and it was only a 5 minute walk to start line. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment but other than this the hotel is ok, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The room I booked was a single and was large and comfortable, the en suite was clean and the shower was great. The hotel is well within the reasonable priced range and will be booking it again for next years run. It's central for everything and the train station is literally a 2 minute walk.
