Three Tunns Hotel, Durham
We stayed at the Three Tunns Hotel in Durham for 2 nights 27-29 April 2013.. We stayed in room 113 overlooking the front of the building, noisy but warm.We have stayed here before because of the ideal location for the centre of Durham. Yes the rooms are dated but the food has always been good. The staff are friendly and efficient. The people who put bad reviews should pay a bit extra and go to another hotel (remember - if it's cheap it's for a reason!!). We were advised by a member of staff that the hotel was to close next week, nothing wasmentioned on the website when we booked that I could see. There are rumours of the University taking it over for student accommodation. I only hope that the existing hotel staff are looked after and offered alternative employment as they do not know what is to become of them. After all some of them have been there a number of years and have been the backbone of this hotel!!It's a shame that nobody with a vision could not take this hotel over, spruce it up as it is a beautiful building and could, once again, be a great hotel.Thank you to all the staff and good luck.

Good value & good stay
Stayed 2 nights for a weekend break. Rooms and breakfast were fine, decor and hotel generally a bit dated. Roadside rooms a bit noisy depending on time of day due to traffic. Taps in bathroom didn't fully turn off. Good value for what we paid and good central location.

Good Value
Stayed over the Easter weekend after reading reviews l was apprehensive. Yes the hotel is tired in places and our rooms was "ok" heating wasnt working well and the Bathroom was very tired. Location is good and staff were helpful apart from the waiter who thought he would chase us out the resturant for a ¿¿2 supplement for Kippers which we had already paid (suggest he checks with other staff members in future) and we were there for a nother night so dont think we would have run away !! On a positive note the Break was good and evening meals were of good quality.

A celiac's delight
Myself my husband and two friends decided to visit Beamish Museum, we looked for places to stay nearby and found the three tunns inn. I am so glad we did. We arrived on a cold Monday afternoon, the car park is at the back of the building and as we walked round the front I wondered what we had come to - the outside of the building was quite shabby - but when we went in I was pleasantly surprised. Inside was a lot better and we recieved a warm welcome from the receptionist - who had everything organised, we were a bit early but she checked and found that our rooms were ready. We were on the second floor and with no lift available I am glad we only had luggage for a couple of days as there were quite a few steps. The rooms were lovely, although as has been said in previous reviews slightly dated , this didn't matter to us at all.We unpacked and went down for our tea and scones (part of our package - along with a bottle of wine and chocolates ) The scones were delicious but as one of our party was celiac (we rang and told them in advance) they produced a beautiful fresh fruit platter i almost wished that I was celiac too. After our cream tea we walked into town which was literally just across the road making the hotel ideal for anyone wanting to explore Durham. There are plenty of shops bars and restaurants really local. We went back to our rooms and got ready for our evening meal, the restaurant was very quite but the service was excellent as was the food - the waiter was aware that we had a celiac with us and knew exactly what she could and couldn't eat from the menu again we were confident and impressed by thier service. After our evening meal we went into the bar - this was probably the worsr part of our experience although the staff were again brilliant it was very cold in the bar bar area bearing in mind it was freezing outside and it is a big area to heat there was nothing much they could do about it really. However we just went out of the front door and into the pub across the road which was warm and welcoming so problem solved easlily. The beds were really comfy - the rooms were warm and although our room looked out onto a main road the traffic noise wasn't bad at all - apart from a few police cars and ambulances going past.We went down for breakfast and again the food was faultless and our celiac was well catered for and the waiter had been briefed on what she could and couldn't eat.We went on our way to Beamish (thats another review) with full tummies and very happy with our choce of hotel. We stayed anoher night and again the food and service was excellent. We would happlily return to this hotel should we be in the area again at any time and can quite confidently recommend it to anyone who is celiac - they really do know how to look after you.
