great hotel
the highlight of this hotel must be dinner is its fantastic dining room. Luxurious surroundings, great staff, fantastic menu and food. Cocktail bar is lively and fun at the weekend if rather expensive. Rooms are clean and comfortable although we did have issues from noise which seemed to come from the night club directly across the street.

All the glamour, some of the nonsense!
It's a very well maintained hotel with well-trained staff and beautiful decor. Sometimes pricing and policy take precedence over the customer, but in Belfast you get the impression that "appearances" are more important than base-line customer service generally, so this place is forgiven. The rooms are lovely and the place seemed fairly well soundproofed from the outside nocturnal nonsense.

Merchant Hotel has not the same standards as before
The first ever time we stayed at the Merchant it was brilliant and i wrote a brilliant review. This time however we were very disappointed!!!! It has been extended and the service is terrible. We waited over an hour for our evening meal in the Great Dining room. The lounges were packed with people from the street and there was no room for the guests that were actually staying in the hotel. We couldn't sleep because of the noise from within the hotel itself. There was no turndown service at all.!!!! Nothing was replaced in the room when it was used. I wrote a letter telling them that bigger is not always better, but got no reply. Would not recomment this hotel and will never stay there again.

Lovely Bar
Did not stay in the hotel just went for a cocktail in the bar. Beautiful building with a very elegant feel to it. The bar was lovely, very posh but cosy. The cocktail menu is impressive and difficult to choose from as they all sounded good. Waiter took order at table and also brought over complimentary olives, cracker things and amazing cheesy pretzels! My cocktail was delicious but we only stayed for one as they were ¿¿10-¿¿15 each!
