Not to bad at all
Stayed over night on the 5th of may after having been to a family party, the rooms are of a decent size and clean just stayed in the room for a hour then out to the party,Got back ,straight to bed and zonked out,so the bed must have been comfy.Must admit i found the breakfast pricey so opted for a bacon sandwich for ¿¿4 which is'nt to bad i suppose. All in all a pleasant time was and would not hesitate to stay again

A long way from 4 star
I write this having stayed in many Holiday Inns around the world and this one ranks firmly at the bottom. We booked three rooms for the bank holiday weekend to attend the Tough Mudder event nearby but I will start with the positives. It's easy to find with plenty of parking. The gym and pool facilities are reasonable. The rooms are clean. Most but not all of the staff are nice and helpful.NegativesThe food in the restaurant is very expensive for what it is and at best passes for school dinners.I had a starter of vegetable brochette that was cold and soggy. It seemed to me that is had been made some hours earlier and reheated and covered in cheap cheese. One of the others ordered focaccia with caremalised onions and mozzarella. What actually arrived was cheap cheddar on french stick, or more accurately described would be cheese on toast with no caremalised onions. My partner ordered houmous and pitta and got a dried out mass about the size ofma quailsnegg and pitta covered in soggy melted cheap cheese when cheese is not even in the description! My main course of chicken breast was passable but only afterwards did I realised that the gratin potatoes had not been served. We all complained about the food and two of the starters were knocked off the price. The manager stating that no one else had complained about their starters did not help. We also had another chicken order which contained a prawn. Not a big issue unless you have a seafood allergy of course.BreakfastVery average. The usual problem of tray cooked bacon that is half cooked or raw. Not the only hotel to do this but its just awful. You can order poached eggs etc which are fine (well one order was undercooked but otherwise...). On the final day we ordered pancakes with Maple syrup for the kids and what we got was golden syrup. The manager seemed surprised that we could tell the difference and his attitude had been rather nonchalant all weekend. The rooms and decor.Clean they may be but they are very very basic. Carpets are threadbare as commented in other reviews, particularly on stairs and doorways. Whilst its a rather subjective thing to say, the beds were just plain uncomfortable and too small. Since we all felt the same, I've added it in here. The tv's are very old and you would just say that this place has not been modernised in at least 10 years. The kids beds are cheap fold-ups and the first one we were offered had to be changed because it had collapsed in the middle. More than a bit dangerous, as was the old hair dryer that had to be changed when it nearly caught fire whilst my partner was using it. Probably because it is permanently wired and as old as the rest of the fittings. It's still in the room...Mixer taps - ended up with no cold water in the sink at all then the shower was permanently hot. The heads and taps appear quite new but clearly there was a problem. Despite asking for them to be fixed, I leave the room today knowing that the shower is still broken to annoy the next customer.I don't like writing completely negative reviews but I am comparing against other hotels that are 4 stars and this hotel does not even come close. You would get a far better nights sleep in a premiere inn and only the leisure facilities and staff are worthy of compliment. The staff excludes the duty manager this weekend who would do well to learn from the others in the Hotel what customer service is.Sorry but I would not stay here again.

Outdated Hotel for IHG chain
First impression from outside look good, lots of parking spaces. When you enter the hotel different perspective, The hotel is clean but spoilt by a dull reception area, worn carpet, threadbare on all the edges on the stairs. Rooms are of a fair size but again outdated with very old televisions poor quality picture. Bathroom tiles are of a good standard but let down by plastic sink unit, bath had a chip in it, shower was refreshing. Bed was uncomfortable and pillows seem to have lost all their plumpness. tried all four but no difference, On top of getting not much sleep the noise from the A43 which runs past the hotel from about 0400 was unbearable, gave in trying to get back to sleep. Did not use the leisure centre so can not comment on that. Breakfast was nothing special, standard for this type of hotel. All the staff was attentive which made up for the lack of atmosphere within the hotel. This hotel needs updating sooner than later, The reception you enquired about our stay on check out, which we relayed the same responses as above told us there were new owners who were drawing up modernization plans. If stooping in this area in the near future will consider stopping at the Express By Holiday Inn, which is only about 5 miles away and is a modern hotel.

Tip-top staff !
This hotel is ideal if you are doing a day at the nearby race track. Agreed the place looks like it has not had an overhaul since the 90's, but the friendly staff more than make up for the dated decor. Smiling happy receptionist and very attentive restaurant waiting staff offering first class service. Evening meal not great (my stepson could have done with a chainsaw to cut through his leathery steak but breakfast was very palatable and offered a varied selection as per with most other hotels in the same chain. keep your sense of humour about you and understand that you get what you pay for. 3/5 for the hotel and 5/5 for the brilliant staff. Deb.

Cheap and not so cheerful.
A decent enough price at ¿¿60 a night. The room was very clean but very tired looking. The decor of the hotel was dated but was tidy and the staff were efficient and pleasant. My dinner was basic but tasty but breakfast was abysmal. Entirely uncooked sausages were a strange white colour and the eggs were like powder. Add the fact that the dining room was like a furnace and the staff were totally inept to change the thermostat. 4 out of 10.
