Like stepping back in time!
We stayed here as this seemed to be the best option in the area. Is has many plus points such as a 15 minute walk into Dalkey, and the hills behind. However, in many ways it was like going back in time to the days of how hotels used to be. An interesting experience, but a refreshing change from the other big hotel chains. The most amusing thing was having to purchase a swimming cap for 2.50 Euro in order to go swimming. Classic!! One other word of warning: if you want any spa treatments, make sure you book in advance. They are only open until 3pm on Saturday, and remain closed on Sunday.

Awesome "Castle" with Wonder Staff; They care about their Clients!
Yes they call this a castle...not exactly what you expect, but wonderful time exploring this huge property. If you are able ask for room with balcony, if you only have 2 people! If you have a family, go for room 425 as it has a great view with two beds that are large. Make a note that beds are very hard in all of places we stayed in Ireland and Switzerland! Would suggest to hotel to get new plush beds!!!!!! Don't miss this hotel. Tons of walking to town. This location is far from Dublin so about a 60 euro cab drive. Also, cabs are available at hotel with 10 min notice to dalkey and from Dalkey (the town by the castle). The Castle is really old parts built with new parts, but this is a great place to stay. Beware of rooms in family section because we had a ground of kids staying in that area and Saturday night was noisy! Castle was nice and had fruit and chocolate sent to our room plus they did not charge us for a night I booked and did not arrive that night! Loved the Dungeon bar as they allowed my 14 year old to sit by fire with us and served us snacks. Also, you have to do afternoon tea with all the people in the hotel lobby!!

Not a 4 star hotel
Booked in as part of a conference in the hotel, first problem was we couldn't check in until 3, not much good to us as the conference started at 1. Not just me quiet a number of guests were waiting to check in with bags all over reception.problem 2 was we ordered a snack (soup and a sandwich) to tie us over before we left to a friends house, 40mins later still no sign of snack and it was time to leave so we had to cancel.problem 3 was the room party across the hall, until all hours numerous complaints from conference goers the following day because we had to get up early and work.minor problems such as the quality of the toilet paper and been charged for dinners we never had, some staff were 4 star but some weren't even 2 star.Breakfast was good, and the pool was enjoyed by the family. overall not a bad stay and I would go back if the price was right, but not at 4 star prices. we had conference prices so it was reasonably good value and its in a lovely part od Dublin

Rather disappointing
Stayed here last weekend with a group of friends. 5 of us checked in together, 1 double room, 1 twin room and a single. What a difference in the rooms. The single room on the 1st floor looked like a little girls room, small and flowery but 'cute' if you like that kind of thing. The double room on the 5th floor - room 520, has not been renovated in many years. It is a small dark depressing room with 80's style d¿¿cor and the bathroom tiles have not been limescaled in many a year plus a cracked tile on the floor. Big old fashioned TV. View of weeds growing on the roof below. The best of the bunch by far was the twin room on the 3rd floor. Lovely d¿¿cor, flat screen TV, nice linens on the bed - very nice room. Incredibly, all rooms cost the same and were booked the same way. When I pointed this out to young man on check out, his comment was that I must have booked online? Don't think I would be bothered staying here again, there are too many hotels out there much nicer and cheaper. Disappointing experienceNice comfortable chairs/couches in lobby area.

Very Disappointed with our stay
Stayed for two night in late April 2013. We were very disappointed with this Hotel. The rooms were old and worn and so were the bathrooms. Breakfast was very average and so was the dinner. This is a hotel that need huge renovations and also the colour in the outside needs to be changed from its current reddish purple to something more natural with a castle setting. This is a hotel that cannot survive unless it will urgently get a huge upgrade.
