No better place to be in downtown SF.
We had a fabulous room with a view, great bed and the staff sent up complimentary wine and strawberries when they heard it was a birthday. Unlike other hotels they did not treat us poorly for booking on a price based hotel booking website. I would stay here any time.

Best views, weakest food
This hotel's staff has improved their customer orientation since my last stay a few years ago. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and anxious to deliver the best service they could. I loved it!I booked a top-floor, bayside room at a great discount on the website (prepaid deals for low season!), and stayed in the room most of the time to finish some writing. With two exceptions, my stay was fantastic.Great things about this hotel: It's built on the three-way intersection of Chinatown, North Beach, and the financial district, the most fantastic food, great walks and views, and things of interest were all very close by. Use GPS or a good map, as the streets are a bit tricky to navigate (not a strict grid pattern). This hotel gave me great access to much of the cities' charms. It has a standing exhibit of Chinese art and culture--don't miss it!The higher-level, bayside rooms have the best views in San Francisco. You fall in love with the city every time the light changes. Top floor rooms have balconies. The rooms are pleasantly decorated in North American Hip Business Minimalist, which is soothing if you spend a lot of time in the room as I did this trip.Things that could use improvement:On warm days, air from the hallway rushes under the hotel room door making it vibrate incredibly loudly. I had to jam a metal serving tray (sits under the ice bucket normally) under the door every afternoon to make it stop, until the normal foggy afternoons returned. Incredibly annoying, and fixable by improving the door seals so that they sit snugly.Hilton food is just not great. It's especially bad in a foodie town like San Francisco. I felt ill after eating the free concierge snacks one evening--the other evening they ran out of one of the main snacks within half an hour of placing them out. The management needs to staff the concierge suite with one more person, or find a way to get the food to the suite while it is still edible. Study what Marriott Marquis San Diego or Disneyland Grand Californian does to improve. The breakfast was standard, but edible (though room service prices in the menu start high and end up nearly twice as much after taxes and inroom charges and a living-wage tip to the delivery man). The dining room food wasn't much better, though the ambience is quite nice. My Asian chicken salad had fried chicken and a soul-stealingly bad dressing. How could the food be so bad in a town crawling with great food? The "gift shop" (a series of always-locked shelves containing a pitiful few items) and ATM are in a space that is sometimes reserved for meetings, making life awkward. The ATM was down for my entire stay. The building next door makes a lot of noise, and the Bubble Up club nearby sometimes cranks the music so loud you can hear it through tightly sealed balcony glass doors. Friday is the worst night for this. Even with the drawbacks, I enjoyed my stay and got my writing goals completed. The staff couldn't have been better!

Great experience - close to Chinatown
I don't normally write reviews.. But this I must. I remember when this place was Holiday Inn...how time flies. Pros: superb and friendly staffs. Concierge had a great sense of humor and took his time to show us all the good local bars and restaurants within short walking distance. I love the location because it is right across from China town, and I love Chinese food. Heck, I miss Chinese food, because where I live...I don't get much of. At least not the authentic ones. What made this trip amazing was truly the free upgrade. We were originally placed in a corner room with one tiny window which shed little sunlight. We booked through Priceline and got us three nights with decent price. I explained to them with three nights, I prefer a room with a window. They said they currently don't have one available, but that the maid is servicing one and should be ready for us in 2hrs and all we had to do was to pick up our key card. After touring around for a couple of hours, we went back to front desk and ask for our key. Unfortunately, he said it wasn't in the system and asked who I spoke to over the phone, I said it was a lady and I didn't catch her name. At this point, we were tired, and I was frustrated..I think the front desk staff quickly picked up on it and offered us a free upgrade with complementary wifi. To be honest with you, I really enjoy professional and friendly staffs. Without throwing a fist or making a scene (which I don't), the staff still went out of his way to make us happy..and that's what I call smart service. Our hotel room had a panoramic view of Coit Tower/bay - it was breathtaking. . Cons: parking is expensive at the hotel, enough to pay for fine dining for two..so park across the street (public lot) 27.00 a night. Also, hotel bar closes early..like 11PM...bummer. In conclusion, our stay was memorable thanks to that one staff that made it happen. We're visiting again this Memorial Day weekend..but Priceline gave us Le Meridian. I'll see how that goes. Thank you Hilton staffs.

Location, view, & Exec Lounge
My second time staying at this hotel in 5 years. The executive lounge has been upgraded and is excellent. The view and central location are great. Possibly the best hotel room view in the city. The elevator problems seemed to have been fixed and the service is improved as well. One of my favorite city hotels in the US.

Met our Expectations, Great location.
Spent three nights here in April. We had a room with two double beds, the room was available upon check-in slightly before 3PM. We were visiting for pleasure. We found the location to be excellent for sightseeing. If you¿¿¿re walkers, like we are, it¿¿¿s a nice 30-minute walk to Fisherman¿¿¿s Wharf, 10-minutes to the ferry terminal, a little under 10 minutes to Market street where you can take the BART to/from SFO/OAK. We attended three Giants games at AT&T Park during our stay and we walked to/from the ballpark for each of them¿¿¿ approximately a 25-minute walk at a good pace. Location is right on the border of Financial District and Chinatown, this made for the best of both worlds. One block over to a Starbucks or one block over to plentiful unique dining options, convenience stores, etc, and then a couple of blocks away you have Columbus Avenue which will take you through the interesting North Beach neighbourhood, Washington Square, etc. Orientation is very simple when this hotel is your base¿¿¿ you¿¿¿re one block from the Transamerica Pyramid¿¿¿ hard to get lost!Rooms were nice and fairly recently remodeled, and while some have complained they are small I don¿¿¿t think they were small at all for a big city. Beds were extremely comfortable, A/C worked well and wasn¿¿¿t too loud, windows were big and gave a GREAT view of the Coit Tower. We were on the 7th floor and even from there we could see the bay. Street noise was not an issue for us at all, although we did keep the A/C fan running at night to provide white noise. I was concerned based on previous reviews and we didn¿¿¿t have any problems, weekday or weekend. We heard neighbors one night as they seemingly came in from a bar or something, but that didn¿¿¿t last long. Otherwise, quiet. Bathrooms are fairly small. Small bathtubs and not particularly ¿¿¿luxurious¿¿¿. Strange sliding bathroom door limited privacy. Water pressure was good sometimes and not-so-good at other times. While getting hot water was never an issue, we had trouble getting cold water in the sink at times, which was odd. You can hear the pipes from time to time¿¿¿ this is definitely an older building! So don¿¿¿t be expecting anything over the top from the bathroom, but it is fine.Others mentioned elevators being slow¿¿¿ while they weren¿¿¿t lightning fast, we never waited more than a minute. We were also on the 7th floor which may have contributed to that perception (as opposed to a higher floor). Service was friendly, lobby had a number of computers available for use. Didn¿¿¿t use the restaurant, unless you NEED to for some reason, you¿¿¿d be better off heading out in almost any direction for a number of good options.Overall, would recommend this hotel and we¿¿¿d stay here again.
