On arriving at the George we were pleasantly surprise by the hotel it seems lovely, we were very early for check in so needed to store our bags which wasn't a problem and once returned to check in the lady was very helpful and because it was my partners birthday gave us a voucher for the bar for a couple of glasses of champagne which was nice. On arriving at our room we were apprehensive as the hall ways were not the best but once in the room the attention had been given to them, it was very nice plus a small birthday cake and card had been placed in our room a very nice touch. The bed was comfortable the bathroom small but adequate limited on toiletries but if you requires anything there was a note to call down to reception and these would be brought to you. At this point not a bad start. We enjoyed a drink the bar later in the day which was pleasant. On arrival on the first morning for breakfast service was good and selection also with the buffet both hot and cold being plentiful and the haggis was very nice. Our problems began the following morning when we arrived for breakfast at 8.30am we were met with huge queues to the restaurant, ok it was a bank holiday so we appreciate that. we waited around 30 mins to be seated, it would have been better if we had not bothered, everywhere there were empty tables uncleared (crazy when so many people were waiting) as we sat a waitress came up to us heres your tea and coffee, I pointed out these were not ours but could we order 2 coffees and some toast, one coffee arrived as did another tea and I asked if this could be changed, the toast also arrived brown as we had asked but 2 slices for both of us that was thin and cold, not the best start. We went to the buffet table for juice all I can say is it was decimated, nothing had anything in it, juice, cereal or milk, we went to check the cold platter items out, fruit, cold meets cheeses again nothing, the lady a table nearby asked about the juice and the waitress said it wasn¿¿¿t her job to fill them, she ended up going to the bar to get juice. The hot buffet was no better again empty and queues forming as the kitchen staff were so slow at filling these up but nothing was ever full ....poor ,poor poor, several people complained but didn¿¿¿t seem to get anywhere. We left with a sour taste in our months this had spoilt the whole weekend as far as the quality of the hotel was concerned plus that was the actual day of my partner¿¿¿s birthday so not a good start. We quickly checked out of the hotel and left our luggage to collect late in the day whilst we continued our visit we did mention the issue to receipt on check out and she did ask if we would like to speak to the manager but at this point I just wanted to get out of the hotel. We visit Edinburgh on a regular basis and though we had found the hotel we would use as its location is great for us but were we disappointed so much so we had a look at the Roxburgh up the road for our next visit and this is where we will be staying. We will not be back to the George the service and quality of the breakfast was something I wouldn't even expect from a cheap hotel never mind one I had paid ¿¿300 for.

Stayed here in Feb with my boyfriend! upon checking in we were taken to our room and offered a free glass of bubbly! everything was great until we opened the curtains and all we could see was generators!! however after complaining about them because they were noisy and kept on all night we were offered another room and the staff even moved all our luggage. would go back again as we had a great time and the staff were all very friendly. great location

Stayed at The George for 1 night whilst in town for a show. The price was reasonable for an Edinburgh hotel and we had a nice room, although a bit cramped. The bed was comfortable and the room was well appointed. We had a room next to the lift shaft, which worried us, but it was not a problem, we didn't hear it at all. Some street noise was a problem so we had to close our bedroom window which meant the room was very stuffy. We dinned in the hotel and had an excellent meal, thoroughly enjoyed that. Not terribly impresses with breakfast, especially at ¿¿10 per person (and that was a discounted price as we paid when we booked the room). We were told the dinning room was full so we were shown to a table in the Tempas bar, not a problem as it's bright, spaceous and looks out onto the street. We were served coffee and toast, but no-one explained that there was a buffet in the next room so we sat there and sat there and sat there, in the end we had to ask. The standard of the breakfast buffet was pretty ropey, all hot trays baked dry, as a consequence most things were over-cooked, in the case of the bacon it was inedible. Not worth ¿¿10. We paid ¿¿109 for the night including breakfast, not a bad price for Edinburgh centre. Would return to this hotel, but wouldn't pay more.

Arrived on a late deal as we had to stay over at the last minute. Given a beautiful room at the back overlooking the forth. Staff at reception were excellent . Couldn't do enough! Room clean and tidy, and huge! Truly a great place to stay

I gave an extremely poor review in December after a disasterous Xmas Party and overnight stay at the George Hotel - subsequently I had another overnight stay last week and the service provided was excellent. It seems that the George Hotel has learned their lesson with regard to customer service and this has made me rethink my original review which I will put down to experience
