Great central position
The hotel was in a great place. We were lucky enough to have a canal view although we hadn't booked and certainly weren't expecting one which really made the room such good value. The room was a good size and staff all seemed friendly. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel as there were so many coffee houses to choose from. We would book this hotel again.

Decent at best
When we arrived, the girl at the front desk certainly wasn't overly friendly. She had me worried for a moment because it seemed to take her a long time to get us checked in. When we got to our room, 3rd floor, no view (which you can't really ask for a canal view by the time you get there) we were astonisheddddd by how tiny the room was. I know it's Europe, but the photos make the rooms look so much bigger. The bathroom was tiny too. We were exhausted though so we took a nap. The best was good! It was hot in our room, no individual units per room so we opened a window and delt with it. The front desk will keep your bags for you after you check out so that's a plus. We payed $120 for this so not awful, but nothing speculator my any means. Oh, one other plus- you can connect your phone to wifi that us fairly fast! Not sure about how good it is via laptop but they also have two computers in lobby you can pay to use.

About what we expected
We were looking for a decent, inexpensive hotel for one night in Amsterdam, and as we were traveling with young teens, wanted to be away from the Red Light district. The hotel staff were welcoming and friendly, and we were able to leave our luggage for the entire day after checking out early in the morning. It's only a ten minute walk to the Anne Frank House, and a few blocks into Dam Square, so the location was perfect. Our room was overlooking the Herengracht canal, and was very quiet. Not a 5-star hotel, but good value for money if on a short break.

Worst hotel in Amsterdam
I've been there for 3 days and unfortunately I've been counting the minutes to go back home, which isn't a really good start for a trip... Here my negative points : - We had mold on the wall, which is disgusting and absolutely impossible- the room and the whole level was made for people not larger than 1.70 m, because there were wooden bars everywhere, so you crashed them an awful lot of times- the shower was the worst I've ever seen, I was too big and you just had ice cold or boiling water, nothing in between- the bathroom was dirty and we found hair when entering the room for the first time- the room had also seen better days, because the furniture seemed extremely used and old...- the windows in the staircase were broken (!!!) More than 10 windows had cracks inside!- the receptionist were stupid, unfriendly and didn't want to help us or make any effort..- the breakfast menu was really bad! Undone bacon, cold pancakes, scrambled egg with egg imitation and disgusting coffee.My best advice for every Amsterdam tourist : don't go there. Worst Hotel in Amsterdam...

Just about acceptable
I have never previously checked in to a hotel to be told that they had run out of room keys because they were full but that's what happened when I stayed at this hotel for the second time. The staff member who opened up the room for me commented about the "crazy" management.It has a great location but sadly seems to rely on that rather than quality. The furniture in the hotel room was cheap and the walls were stained and scraped. There were only two electrical outlets in the room and one was hidden away. The ceiling in the bathroom had black mold on it and I was unable to open the window to get any fresh air in the room. Would I stay here again when visiting Amsterdam? Frankly, I'd rather pay more and stay at the ever reliable Swissotel.
