Few issues
I picked this hotel as it is next to the zoo and it is advertised as having free parking. Great I thought - I can use it as a base for an Edinburgh visit. Unfortunately the car park is small so once parked, you take a risk moving your car as you may not be able to find a parking place on return. There is additional parking near the zoo but this is not available during the daytime. Rooms were ok but the windows were locked 'for my safety' so I could only partially open one window. There was no safe in the room nor a minibar - quite an omission considering the cost of the hotel. I did not take breakfast as ¿¿44.85 seemed excessive for 2 adults and a child. Evening meals were cheaper and there is no charge for children. The beef curry was quite bland. There are plenty of decent restaurants within walking distance if you head out of town. If you need to buy supplies, bread cheese food etc then there is a shop about 10 minutes walk towards town.One final point - even with the window partly open there can be a noise coming from the zoo. I shudder to think what was growling at 2am.

Holiday Inn Edinburgh Zoo
Located right in the zoo perfect for families taking children to the zoo.The rooms are quite dated, bathroom had really musty almost mouldy smell although the shower was great and very powerfull.The bed in room was huge and the room itself was spacious, although basic e.g no biscuits, water, iron or extra touches. Staff helpfull and friendly.Overall spacious and fine for an over night stay but definately not anything special.

Great location if you arrive by car
We visited Edinburgh by car and needed somewhere close to the City, with plenty of parking and with a gym or pool (it has both). We chose this hotel because we thought it was near enough to the attractions and yet far enough away to enable us to get a good night's sleep.In all respects, this hotel suited us perfectly and we got a decent room rate, including breakfast. The rooms probably need a bit of a refurbishment but ours was clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfasts were good apart from the coffee, which was served as a cup of hot water and a sachet of coffee: horrid. Apart from that the choice of foods was excellent and ranged from pancakes, pastries and hot breakfasts.There is a bus stop outside the hotel that goes straight into the City centre (¿¿1.50 each way I think it was) and you just can't get lost. We had to wait no longer than 5 minutes for a bus on any of the days and I believe they run every 10 - 15 minutes.The Zoo is next door and I mean next door. The gym is small but very good and the pool looked a decent enough size.On a couple of occasions, we had to ask the reception staff to help us out with a couple of things (find numbers to book restaurants, book taxis etc) and they were great. Very helpful indeed.I have given this hotel a good rating, which is partly based on value for money. I would not have rated it so highly if I had paid the standard room rate. If I was visiting Edinburgh again and was able to get a decent deal, I would definitely stay here.

Pleasant, clean, cosy but a few issues
I booked here for the bank holiday weekend with my girlfriend. The location was good as its next to the zoo and a bus stop outside so didn't have to worry about taking the car into the city centre. Free car parking which was a bonus and all the staff proved to be very helpful and friendly. I also booked breakfast for 1 of the days I did think this was quite expensive as i only wanted a simple breakfast but u can actually eat as much as you want so u could get your moneys worth if your hungry and i did really enjoy it. The rooms were reasonably prices but were quite small or cosy and once we put our bags in it was quite cramped and had to fight for plug sockets. I found the bed quite uncomfortable and the quilt was far too small. On a plus side the view was lovely and the power shower was brilliant. My last point would be the prices at the bar are very expensive i had just returned from town where i ordered 2 grey goose vodkas and lemonade which cost just over ¿¿8 once back in the hotel i ordered a normal vodka and Malibu with lemonade this came to over ¿¿10! Overall an ok trip for what price we paid good location, nice breakfast, free parking just but of a shame about the bed and bar prices.

rooms could do with an upgrade
this was not the best holiday inn i have stayed in. Rooms a bit dated,no fridge,iron or safe.No complimentary water or biscuits..(may seem petty but it all adds to the experience)that said I did get a good deal via superbreaks so cannot really complain.If you want the Zoo this Holiday inn is ideal..but also not too bad for the city.. bus stop outside the hotel.. all the buses went into princess street (10mins) we opted for the day tickets @ ¿¿3.50 great value bus 26 went all the way to portebello beach..I chose this holiday inn instead of city centre where i have stayed before for the pool /spa.which was well worth it...Breakfast was also good.,There are no shops or places to eat right near the hotel but 2 stops away on the bus there was a good toby carvery.. Restaurant in hotel a bit pricey as always..
