Great location
Tis hotel is located in a great spot of New York. Short walking distance to Times Square theater district grand central station. The hotel lobby is tiny but then I do not sit in the lobby. Located next to a Irish pub across the street from a German beer hall.Close to shopping.Rooms nice very modern furnishings but equipped very completely. Our room had a full kitchen large living area dining table. Perfect for doing work Friendly staff.You will be pleasantly surprised.

Great Stay
I took my sister to NYC for her 30th birthday (Mother's Day Weekend) and we stayed here. I was able to get a fantastic deal through travelocity - roundtrip flights from Ft. Lauderdale to LaGuardia and 3 nights in an Executive 1 bedroom suite for less than $1,200 US. I booked very early - in January. We had an early flight and arrived at the hotel approximately 11:00 a.m. and YEP - they checked us in :) Our suite was beyond spacious and comfortable - king sized bed (firm but comfy). As to other reviews... yes, the hotel is a bit old/dated - but it was very clean and everything was in working order. If you are a nitt-picker, you will find something wrong everywhere you go. Staff at the hotel was fantastic, friendly and very helpful. Yes, the lobby is small, but how much time are you going to spend in the lobby? Seriously, people. Our suite was on the 17th floor, with a view of the Chrysler Building. Yes, it's true about the temperature in the building and I did find it a bit stuffy, but luckily the window in the living room opened about 6 inches and the one in the bedroom opened all the way... watch out for kids if you have a room in which the window opens all the way. With that, the room was amazingly comfortable. Only complaint... water pressure. It was very bizarre and fluctuated from a trickle to full power, but eventually steadied somewhat after about 10 mins. I must say that the hot water gets pretty hot - something I like. The location is great... far enought away from everything so it's quiet but close enough to walk to. Also, Grand Central Station is just a few blocks away. There are tons of close by restaurants with pretty much anything you could want.

This place needs a major overhaul
The rooms are dreary. Very badly needs an updating. Location is not great. Service ok. Missing lightbulbs. Generally uncomfortable room. Will not stay here again. Elevators are very strange. Layout of the building and are not user friendly

Nice if you get what you desire...
I reserve a studio suite long time ago and they propose me an upgrading to one bedroom suite upon avaibility at arrival for 50$ taxes include...I email 1 week before arrival to request a room in upper floors , studio suite or upgrading.While arriving at the Alex(former name of the hotel) the clerck was not able to "understand" the offer I had responsed(the upgrading!!!seems to even not known its existence...).More he gives us a studio suite on 12th floor and DARK+++, no niew or view on a backside court...And the explanation : always the same ^policy in a majority of US hotel...You arrive late and it's "first come, first served"...NO and NO and NO : it's the first who have reserved have to get the best room not the first to arrive the day of check in...In my opinion, the day I put my finger on the internet confirmation form I enter the hotel and so I should have the best room available AT THIS TIME and not at check in...This clerck would not understand till I give him the exemple of a theater's reservation : first reserved best seats...So the day after they "upgrade" us and for free to a magnificent onebed room suite at the 27th floors facing Chrysler building and the river...Very large rooma nd living, excellent amenities in kitchen, clean bathroom(small but there is a tub and a sink, hair dryer, mirror to put the lences... .Lot of rangement, flat TV.NY times at the check .So nothing to blame after the first night...But it's tirefull to explain more than 2 hotels on 3 that the policy first arrived, first served have to apply ath the date of reservation, not at the date of arrival...

Dissapointing
Stayed in a Queen Room. Was clean and nothing majorly wrong with the room, but for a top of the range hotel, the room was more like a 3 star hotel. Lobby or complete lack of a lobby was also disappointing. Location is pretty decent and worth staying here if you can get a deal, but at $250 a night, it is hugely overpriced and there are far better options for less money in NYC.
