This hotel has a lot of style
The breakfast staff in the restaurant 312 is exceptional. In addition the menu was creative. I had the French toast with bananas and walnuts. The lobby is a nice place to hang during the free wine hour. We played jenga in the lobby with a glass of wine before heading out for the night. If you are going to the theatre this is a great location. We arrived on the blue line from O'hare. That was very convenient and cheap if you don't have lots of luggage. A great place to enjoy Chicago's best without staying at a big chain brand hotel. If you want to try something more unique, this is your place.

Hip hotel in an excellent location
Allegro is located on Randolph, closed to the opera, the symphony and the Art Institute. The staff is charming and in my experience fully bilingual in English and Spanish. I tried the restaurant for breakfast and it was excellent. The rooms are spacious and the bathroom is comfortable. The decor is quirky, with bright or silvery colors, in an unlikely mix of art deco and disco. My only disappointment concerned the valet parking. It was hard to reach someone when I arrived, but it was not a big deal in the end.

Great weekend getaway
My husband and I stayed here for a quick weekend getaway and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.The location is right in the theatre district, which is not our thing, but what gets totally downplayed is how easy it is to walk to all the big attractions-- Millenium Park, Art Institute, Magnificent Mile, etc. Lots of dining options nearby as well. And having a Starbucks connected to the hotel is always a plus for me.We had a King Suite with Jacuzzi (room 1134). Absolutely amazed by the size of the suite for a downtown hotel. More space than we needed really. Decor was nice and room was very clean.Service was pretty good-- my husband arranged for flowers and a treat from the hotel to celebrate my birthday. We ordered room service for a late night dinner and breakfast and both were pretty good.We didn't take advantage of the morning coffee (prefer to pay for Starbucks), but my husband went down for the happy hour drinks a couple of times while I napped (I'm also very pregnant).We were high enough that we didn't really hear any street noise. Could hear the El every once in a while, but hardly an issue. Again, to be expected for a great downtown location.I've been a fan of Kimpton hotels for a while, and the Allegro didn't disappoint.

Our home away from home
Whenever we drive from Cincinnati to Chicago we stay at the Allegro, our home away from home. We always get a suite and since we are usually attending the Chicago Lyric we identif ourselves as Lyric subscribers and qualify for better rates. When we pull up to the hotel the bellman recognizes our car and welcomes us by name. The service is always friendly and excellent. They have a daily wine tasting for guests. When we come back from the Opera we are again greeted by name and are asked: How was the Opera, Dr. Hasl? Some times we order room service to be delivered so that it is ready when we return from the Lyric. This is a top notch hotel with staff who cares about their guests. I give it a five star rating and they deserve it.

Room to turn around
I've stayed here several times and it is really convienent to the State of Illinois Center, but man are the rooms small. If you aren't going to spend any time in the room it may be ok, but the bathrooms are tiny. Obviously you don't need to, but you could wash your hands while taking a shower. My room on this particular stay looked right at a brick wall. Otherwise it is clean and the decor attempts a euro feel. Free wine in the lobby for an hour each day. You weigh the importance.
