Agumar Hotel-Good Location
We recently stayed at the Agumar Hotel in Madrid during a bus tour of Spain. I found the hotel to be completely acceptable, as far as European hotels are concerned. One advantage is that you can take the Airport Bus from the Madrid Airport to the Atocha Train Station and walk a couple of blocks to the hotel. There are a few cafes and grocery shops near the hotel also. It is about a 20-30 minute enjoyable walk to the center of town from this hotel. There is a beautiful park nearby as well.I didn't notice any problems with the noise that other reviewers mentioned. We did open our windows at night, but weren't bothered by any outside noises. We did receive free Wi-Fi because we were with a tour group, but free Wi-Fi isn't always available in Europe any way. The breakfast buffet was the usual fare for Europe. Again, for a basic, safe, clean hotel, we found the Agumar to be acceptable.

I would look somewhere else...
I stayed here, in room 509, from 03-05-2013 until 05-05-2013. The hotel has a strange smell when you walk in. It is clean and so are the rooms. However, the windows are not 100% sound proof and the fact there is a bottle shop across the street doesn help much because people shout and laugh until late and beyond midnight! If you want to use the wifi to access the Internet you must pay 6 Euros/day to receive a user+password! I confirm the bedroom was hot and I wonder how it would feel in August! Apart from all this details, the hotel is very well located and it is two blocks away from the nearest subway station (ie, Atocha Renfe). I don't recommend any of the bars and restaurants nearby (ie, Paseo Reina Cristina), because they're expensive and the food quality is very bad. Sorry, but that's about what I have to say about this hotel...if you can, look somewhere else!

AVOID!!!
There has to be better. Rooms are HOT, lots of street noise, walls are paper thin. No free Wifi or room safe. Staying on a bus tour so I guess it's all about price. It is a cheap hotel and you get what you pay for. Definitely not 4 star

Not 4 star
I stayed here with a bus tour and was very disappointed with this hotel. It is drab, my room was small, looking out onto a brick wall. It lacked simple things like iron, tea or coffee facilities, room was old and dated and noisey. I would not choose to stay here again. The staff were very unhelpful and not the least friendly. I gather from the tourist on different bus tours that were staying there, that maybe they just don't care about client satisfaction as the tour buses will still use this hotel anyway.

Hotel Agumar--great location!
Just down the street from Museo La Reina Sophia (home of Picasso's "Gernika"), this hotel has a great location. The hotel has nice enough rooms, however, they seem to have a problem arranging the room with anything other than a 2 separate twin bed sleeping arrangement (the beds are not pushed together, even though we had requested). There is also an extra charge for using the in-room safe and WIFI, so you felt nickel and dimed to death. The imposing lobby has no seating area and some lovely, albeit dusty, chandeliers. The food in their cafeteria was good but nothing special. If I had the option of staying here again, I probably would not. So many other choices. However, if you can get a good deal on a room here, I'd tell you to go for it.
