Not just a bit grubby, really dirty
The sink in our bathroom had brown splash stains in it when we arrived. Even without them, the sink and every bathroom fitting was grimy around the edges from being given the minimum of wipes for some time. Reported the sink to the reception who said housekeeping would come and clean it. 5 hours later, the sink still had not been cleaned. The bath had a grimy ring around it so well-established you could feel the roughness of it. I cleaned the bath myself with one of the handtowels, not wanting to wait another fruitless 5 hours before taking a bath. The bath drain was blocked somewhere along the line too; it took 15 minutes for the water to drain out so my husband could take a shower.The bathroom is integrated in the bedroom, so there was a musty, mouldy smell and we had to leave the windows open for fresh air. Also, the lights for the bathroom and bedroom had only one switch so you could choose between either using the bathroom in the dark or flooding the bed with light.You get the impression they don't particularly care.

It was just ok
I have been to park plaza Westminster, London several times so expectations were high. Unfortunately this one has small rooms and is not as central as their description indicates. It is next to the park but that's not such a big deal. The immediate area was very quiet with just a couple of nearby restaurants. The hotel bar was excellent with a very helpful and friendly barman. Food in the bar was very good. Reception service was excellent. Public transport from the airport has many options but there are no obvious direct routes. We took 2 buses there and a taxi back. Taxi was 35 Euros. Would I stay there again. Probably not as I prefer a more central location but if you like walking (we didnt as it was pretty cold) then its about 30 to 45 minutes walk into the centre.

A pleasant area in Amsterdam
The hotel is in a quiet area, just beside the Vondel Park. The no. 2 tram from Central station is close by so it it very easy to get into the very centre of the city. Museums etc are only a few minutes walk away.The reception staff are helpful and the barman exceptional. Bar prices are very good for Amsterdam and it is a pleasant spotless bar for a nightcap. Our room in the more modern annexe was spacious and the "glass" bathroom did not bother us one bit. Bed was very comfortable and crisp linen gave us a good sleep. We did not purchase breakfast in advance, and reception offered us 2 for 1 on arrival. We felt it was certainly worth ¿¿¿ 19 for 2 people, with a choice of continental and hot items.

Modern hotel in peaceful suburban location
My husband and I stayed at Park Plaza, Vondelpark for two nights in March 2013. The hotel is located near the Emmastraat tram station. It's a one-minute walk from the station. The tram from Centraal to Emmastraat takes about 15 minutes. It's a quiet, residential area so it's very peaceful. The presence of Vondelpark at the back of the hotel gives you an easy escape to nature. At the same time, the hotel's proximity to the city center allows you to reach the touristy areas within a 10 minute tram ride. If you are staying at this hotel, I highly recommend getting an unlimited tram pass since you will be using it quite a bit. The room was small by North American standards but was very clean, modern and comfortable. One issue we had was that the double bed is actually two singles placed together. As a result, the midpoint where the two single beds met kept bothering us.The lobby was really nicely decorated. The staff is extremely helpful. They weren't able to recommend restaurants but we had done our research so they assisted in making phone calls and reservations. They also provide free luggage storage so whether you are coming into town before check-in time or leaving after check-out time, you can leave your luggage at the hotel while you explore Amsterdam :)

Good for a couple of nights
My wife and I stayed here for two nights on Friday/Saturday April 19/20, 2013. The reception was extremely helpful, the room although fairly basic was very comfortable and was adequate for the short stay. Breakfast was quite good although the restaurant was busy. Tables could have been cleared a little quicker but certainly plenty of variety in food. Location is perfect with the number 2 tram outside which will take you into the centre or to walk is not too far which is was the way we went. Because we walked we found just a block away a lovely Italian restaurant, the Sardegna.
